Expert consensus on microtransplant for acute myeloid leukemia in elderly patients -report from the international microtransplant interest group.

Recent studies have shown that microtransplant (MST) could improve outcome of patients with elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML). To further standardize the MST therapy and improve outcomes in EAML patients, based on analysis of the literature on MST, especially MST with EAML from January 1st, 2011 to November 30th, 2022, the International Microtransplant Interest Group provides recommendations and considerations for MST in the treatment of EAML. Four major issues related to MST for treating EAML were addressed: therapeutic principle of MST (1), candidates for MST (2), induction chemotherapy regimens (3), and post-remission therapy based on MST (4).

Twin Premature Infants With Riboflavin and Biotin Deficiency Presenting With Refractory Lactic Acidosis, Rash, and Multiorgan Failure During Prolonged Parenteral Nutrition.

We are reporting monochorionic, diamniotic twin premature infants born at 25 weeks and 6 days gestation with riboflavin (vitamin B2) and biotin (vitamin B7) deficiency, while on prolonged total parenteral nutrition (TPN) during vitamin shortage. They presented initially with skin rash, lactic acidosis, and thrombocytopenia. Both twins progressed to severe respiratory failure, severe lactic acidosis, with refractory vasodilatory shock, pancytopenia, ischemic bowel injury, acute kidney injury, liver injury, and capillary leak syndrome leading to death of twin A.

Augmentation of BMP Signaling in Cranial Neural Crest Cells Leads to Premature Cranial Sutures Fusion through Endochondral Ossification in Mice.

Craniosynostosis is a congenital anomaly characterized by the premature fusion of cranial sutures. Sutures are a critical connective tissue that regulates bone growth; their aberrant fusion results in abnormal shapes of the head and face. The molecular and cellular mechanisms have been investigated for a long time, but knowledge gaps remain between genetic mutations and mechanisms of pathogenesis for craniosynostosis.

Neomycin-induced deafness in neonatal mice.

Background: A growing body of evidence shows differences in the prevalence of cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS) and dementia based on gender and ethnicity. However, there is a paucity of information about ethnic- and gender-specific CMS effects on brain age. We investigated the different effects of CMS on brain age by gender in Korean and British cognitively unimpaired (CU) populations.

Incidence rates of childhood asthma with recurrent exacerbations in the US Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) program.

Background: Descriptive epidemiological data on incidence rates (IRs) of asthma with recurrent exacerbations (ARE) are sparse.

Objectives: This study hypothesized that IRs for ARE would vary by time, geography, age, and race and ethnicity, irrespective of parental asthma history.

Methods: The investigators leveraged data from 17,246 children born after 1990 enrolled in 59 US with 1 Puerto Rican cohort in the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) consortium to estimate IRs for ARE.

Clinicopathologic characteristics, genetic features, and treatment options for acute lymphoblastic leukemia with JAK2 rearrangement-A 10-case study and literature review.

JAK2 rearrangement (JAK2-R) in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is rare and often categorized as B-ALL with BCR::ABL1-like features based on the World Health Organization classification. We report 10 patients with JAK2-R ALL, 9 males and 1 female, with a median age 40.5 years.

The potential role of GLP-1 receptor agonist targeting in fertility-sparing treatment in obese patients with endometrial malignant pathology: a call for research.

Introduction: Most patients diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia or cancer are obese. Obesity, along with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), may act synergistically to increase risk of malignant endometrial pathology. Incidence of malignant endometrial pathology is increasing, particularly in reproductive aged women.

The connection between heart rate variability (HRV), neurological health, and cognition: A literature review.

The heart and brain have bi-directional influences on each other, including autonomic regulation and hemodynamic connections. Heart rate variability (HRV) measures variation in beat-to-beat intervals. New findings about disorganized sinus rhythm (erratic rhythm, quantified as heart rate fragmentation, HRF) are discussed and suggest overestimation of autonomic activities in HRV changes, especially during aging or cardiovascular events.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the deformity angular ratio (DAR) on intra-operative neuromonitoring (IONM) signal changes during posterior spinal fusion (PSF) without vertebral column resection (VCR).

Methods: Retrospective review of severe pediatric spinal deformity patients treated with PSF without VCR or three-column osteotomy from 2008 to 2018. Exclusion criteria were prior instrumentation, lack of IONM, and incomplete radiographic data.

Multiple sclerosis in Indigenous Peoples of the Americas: A systematic review of incidence, prevalence, and outcomes.

Introduction: The incidence, prevalence and outcomes of multiple sclerosis (MS) are unclear in Indigenous Peoples (IP) who are more likely to be underrepresented in research. We completed a systematic review of MS in IP of the Americas.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases as well as references of retrieved papers.

Association of prepregnancy body mass index and gestational weight gain on severity of optic nerve hypoplasia.

Background: Optic nerve hypoplasia (ONH) is a birth defect of unknown etiology and a leading cause of visual impairment in developed countries. Recent studies suggest that factors of deprivation and exposures of poor nutritional status, such as lower gestational weight gain (GWG), may be associated with increased risk of ONH. The present study describes the prenatal features of mothers of ONH cases, including prepregnancy BMI and GWG, and the associations with clinical features of disease severity.

Neuroimaging studies showing the adverse effects of air pollution on neurodevelopment have largely focused on smaller samples from limited geographical locations and have implemented univariant approaches to assess exposure and brain macrostructure. Herein, we implement restriction spectrum imaging and a multivariate approach to examine how one year of annual exposure to daily fine particulate matter (PM), daily nitrogen dioxide (NO), and 8-h maximum ozone (O) at ages 9-10 years relates to subcortical gray matter microarchitecture in a geographically diverse subsample of children from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. Adjusting for confounders, we identified a latent variable representing 66% of the variance between one year of air pollution and subcortical gray matter microarchitecture.
