Background: The alternative NF-κB pathway is activated by the NF-κB-inducing kinase (NIK) mediated phosphorylation of the inhibitor of κ-B kinase α (IKKα). IKKα then phosphorylates p100/NFKB2 to result in its processing to the active p52 subunit. Evidence suggests that basal breast cancers originate within a subpopulation of luminal progenitor cells which is expanded by signaling to IKKα.

Association of Neighborhood-Level Material Deprivation With Atrial Fibrillation Care in a Single-Payer Health Care System: A Population-Based Cohort Study.

Background: There are limited data on the association of material deprivation with clinical care and outcomes after atrial fibrillation (AF) diagnosis in jurisdictions with universal health care.

Methods: This was a population-based cohort study of individuals ≥66 years of age with first diagnosis of AF between April 1, 2007, and March 31, 2019, in the Canadian province of Ontario, which provides public funding and prohibits private payment for medically necessary physician and hospital services. Tribo-Piezoelectricity in Group III Nitride Bilayers: A Density Functional Theory Investigation.

The notable out-of-plane piezoelectric effect caused by the large electronegativity of the constituent elements makes two-dimensional (2D) group III nitrides appealing for nanoscale energy-harvesting applications. Here, we demonstrate by extensive density functional theory investigations that the vertical piezoelectricity is enhanced significantly in 2D XN (X = B, Al, Ga) bilayers due to in-plane interlayer sliding. The sliding operation generates tribological energy from the vertical resistance force between the monolayers.

Augmented wide area circumferential catheter ablation for reduction of atrial fibrillation recurrence (AWARE) trial: Design and rationale.

Background: Recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after a pulmonary vein isolation procedure is often due to electrical reconnection of the pulmonary veins. Repeat ablation procedures may improve freedom from AF but are associated with increased risks and health care costs. A novel ablation strategy in which patients receive "augmented" ablation lesions has the potential to reduce the risk of AF recurrence.

Introduction: The need to better prepare youth with type 1 diabetes for the transition from paediatric to adult care is evident. As part of a regional quality improvement initiative, a novel Pre-Transition (Pre-T) Visit was developed and piloted at a paediatric tertiary care centre in January 2018 for patients aged 15-18 years to capture the status of their self-management skills, introduce transition tools and identify self-care goals and knowledge gaps to be addressed prior to transition.
