Background: The increasing prevalence of myopia among Chinese children and adolescents, especially at younger ages, has emerged as a significant concern in recent years. Pre-myopia is a key period for myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents. Previous studies suggested auricular acupressure (AA) therapy might offer a viable approach to prevent and slow down myopia progression.

Article Synopsis
  • Aplastic anemia (AA) is a serious blood condition with few treatment options, characterized by halted blood cell production and increased cell death due to oxidative stress.
  • Researchers discovered unique carbon dots derived from donkey-hide gelatin (G-CDs) that can stimulate blood cell production and reduce oxidative stress, effectively promoting the recovery of blood cells in AA.
  • Administered to AA mice after chemotherapy, G-CDs significantly increased red blood cell levels and improved overall blood function more effectively than the current treatment, erythropoietin (EPO), without negative side effects.

Diabetic wounds are notoriously difficult to heal due to impaired cell repair mechanisms, reduced angiogenesis, and a heightened risk of infection. Fibroblasts play a vital role in wound healing by producing extracellular matrix (ECM) components and various growth factors, but their function is inhibited in diabetic wounds. Chitooligosaccharides (COS), intermediate products of chitosan degradation, have shown efficacy in promoting tissue repair, yet their role in diabetic wound healing remains underexplored.

Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy, an advanced label-free sensing method, offers significant potential for biomolecular detection and quantitative analysis in biological samples. Although broadband fingerprint enhancement compensates for limitations in detection capability and sensitivity, the complex optical path design in operation restricts its broader adoption. This paper proposes a multi-degree-of-freedom stretchable metasurface that supports magnetic dipole resonance to enhance the broadband THz fingerprint detection of trace analytes.

Natural polysaccharides with excellent biocompatibility are considered ideal materials for repairing diabetic foot ulcer. However, diabetic foot ulcer is often accompanied by decreased muscle function, even resulting in muscle atrophy. During wound repair, monitoring muscle function at the wound site in real time can identify the decreased muscle strength timely, which is crucial for precise wound rehabilitation.

Background: Alterations in bone metabolism may play a significant role in the early stages of femoral head necrosis, yet the causal relationship remains unclear. This study utilizes a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to explore the genetic causal links between biochemical markers of bone metabolism, bone mineral density, and the risk of femoral head necrosis.

Methods: This study utilizes publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets, with exposure factors including biochemical bone markers (25OHD, calcium, and alkaline phosphatase) and bone mineral density (measured at the lumbar spine, heel, femoral neck, and total body).

Targeting PRMT5 through PROTAC for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer.

J Exp Clin Cancer Res

November 2024

Yunnan Key Laboratory of Breast Cancer Precision Medicine, Yunnan Cancer Hospital, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Peking University Cancer Hospital Yunnan, Kunming, 650118, China.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is currently the most aggressive subtype of breast cancer, characterized by high heterogeneity and strong invasiveness, and currently lacks effective therapies. PRMT5, a type II protein arginine methyltransferase, is upregulated in numerous cancers, including TNBC, and plays a critical role, marked it as an attractive therapeutic target. PROTAC (Proteolysis Targeting Chimeras) is an innovative drug development technology that utilizes the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) to degrade target proteins, which is characterized by higher activity, enhanced safety, lower resistance, and reduced toxicity, offering significant value for clinical translation.

  • Asfotase alfa (AA) is an FDA-approved treatment for hypophosphatasia, but there is limited data on its side effects in the real world.
  • This study analyzed 5,040 adverse events (AEs) related to AA using the U.S. FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System, identifying common issues like injection site reactions and ear/labyrinth disorders.
  • The findings suggest that while most AEs are consistent with known data, the newly identified issues warrant further investigation to improve the safety profile of AA.

Conductive hydrogels are ideal candidates for developing flexible electronic devices, but they still cannot exhibit excellent strength, satisfactory toughness and high conductivity in sync, greatly limiting their further applications. Inspired by the structure-enhanced properties of natural tissues, we adopted a straightforward and efficient methodology for constructing strong and tough anisotropic short-chain chitosan-based hydrogels with salting-assisted tensile remodeling treatment. The anisotropic hydrogels present anisotropic mechanical and electrochemical performance due to the oriented arrangement of chitosan and P(AM-AA) macromolecular networks.

In this study, a novel organic photophotochemical transistor (OPECT) biosensing platform was proposed for dual-mode detection of CEA. The dual-mode detecting system is achieved benefit from the exceptional photoelectric performance of MIL-53(Fe) -NH@ZnInS (MNZ) and the peroxidase enzyme (POD) activity of ZIF-67/CuCoO (ZIF-67/CuCoO). Ab2- ZIF-67/CuCoO probe was immobilized on a 96-well plate by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, which accelerated the oxidation of 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) by hydrogen peroxide and thus successfully realized visual detection of CEA.
