Background And Objectives: Patients with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (POMS) typically experience higher levels of inflammation with more frequent relapses, and though patients with POMS usually recover from relapses better than adults, patients with POMS reach irreversible disability at a younger age than adult-onset patients. There have been few randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials of multiple sclerosis (MS) disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) in patients with POMS, and most available data are based on observational studies of off-label use of DMTs approved for adults. We assessed the effectiveness of natalizumab compared with fingolimod using injectable platform therapies as a reference in pediatric patients in the global MSBase registry.

A coherent account of the reaction mechanistic details, structural modifications, and inhibition potentials of antineoplastic drug carmofur and its modified analogs to inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M) is reported. The survey is performed by integrating the density functional based tight binding (DFTB3) with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The inhibition process commences with nucleophilic attack from the sulfur atom on the carbonyl group, yielding a C-S bond formation, followed by a bond formation of the H-O9 by 2.

Field weed infestations can cause serious problems and require regular and planned programs to control them. Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide that inactivates the 5-enolpyruvylshikimate 3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) enzyme and causes plant death. It has been reported that the mutation of proline 101 to serine in EPSPS is one of the effective mutations to reduce the affinity of glyphosate to EPSPS enzyme.

The remedy for infected chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers is more complicated particularly in the case of patients with an inefficient immune system. Also, fighting against microbial infections in the wound site by available antibiotics may not be effective because of emerging antibiotic resistance properties among pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Recently, applications of micro- and nanoformulations of biomaterials have demonstrated improved therapeutic abilities for wound dressings.

In this investigation a new non-separative kinetic-spectroflourimetric method is proposed for the determination of lysine (lys), leucine (leu) and phenylalanine (phe) enantiomers as their o-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) derivatives in the presence of an optically active chiral thiol compound, 1-mercapto-2-propanol (MP). At ambient temperature and in the borate buffer media of pH 9.6, MP, OPA, as highly selective fluorogenic reagents, and amino acid (AA) enantiomers reacts with each other to yield two fluorescent diasteriomers of D and L-AA with maximum difference in fluorescence intensity at about 450 nm.

In this report, the effect of topiramate (TPM), an anticonvulsant sulfamate drug, on the structure of human carbonic anhydrase II (hCA II) was investigated by spectroscopic techniques. The intrinsic fluorescence experiments indicated that TPM binding causes enhancement of enzyme fluorescence via decreasing the internal quenching and energy transfer efficiency, the result supported by molecular dynamics simulation. Thermodynamic analysis of the binding process suggested that hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions are the major forces in the interaction of TPM with hCA II.

Acrylamide (AA) is a neurotoxin and carcinogen which is mainly formed in foods containing large quantities of starch processed at high temperatures and its determination is very important to control the quality of foods. In this work, a novel electrochemical biosensor based on hemoglobin-dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (HG-DDAB)/platinum-gold-palladium three metallic alloy nanoparticles (PtAuPd NPs)/chitosan-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (Ch-IL)/multiwalled carbon nanotubes-IL (MWCNTs-IL)/glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is proposed for ultrasensitive determination of AA in food samples. Development of the biosensor is based on forming an adduct by the reaction of AA with α-NH group of N-terminal valine of HG which decreases the peak current of HG-Fe reduction.
