Triple‑negative breast cancer (TNBC), a highly malignant breast cancer subtype with a pronounced metastatic propensity, forms the focus of the present investigation. MDA‑MB‑231, a prevalently utilized TNBC cell line in cancer research, was employed. In accordance with the tumour angiogenesis theory, cancer cells are capable of instigating angiogenesis and the formation of a novel vascular system within the tumour microenvironment, which subsequently sustains malignant proliferation and metastasis.

Department of Gastric Surgery, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, No. 651 Dongfeng Road East, Guangzhou, 510060, People's Republic of China.

The N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification serves as an essential epigenetic regulator in eukaryotic cells, playing a significant role in tumorigenesis and cancer progression. However, the detailed biological functions and underlying mechanisms of m6A regulation in gastric cancer (GC) are poorly understood. Our research revealed that the m6A demethylase ALKBH5 was markedly downregulated in GC tissues, which was associated with poor patient prognosis.

Recent advances in the dual effects of activin A on tumors.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

January 2025

Department of Genetics, College of Basic Medical Sciences, Jilin University, Jilin, Changchun, 130021, PR China. Electronic address:

Activin A, a gonadal protein, not only stimulates the pituitary to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) but also plays a crucial role in regulating various cell behaviors, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. Studies have shown an association between activin A expression and tumor progression, highlighting its dual role in cancer. Similar to transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), activin A can have both pro-tumor and anti-tumor effects, for instance, it inhibits the migration of lung adenocarcinoma cells, while promotes the migration of triple-negative breast cancer cells.

The layer-stacking mode of a two-dimensional (2D) material plays a dominant role either in its topology or properties, but remains challenging to control. Herein, we developed alkali-metal ion-regulating synthetic control on the stacking structure of a vinylene-linked covalent triazine framework (termed spc-CTF) for improving hydrogen peroxide (HO) photoproduction. Upon the catalysis of EtONa in Knoevenagel polycondensation, a typical eclipsed stacking mode (spc-CTF-4@AA) was built, while a staggered one (spc-CTF-4@AB) was constructed using LiOH.

Background And Aim: Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is strongly influenced by genetic factors; however the mechanisms underpinning this association are not well understood. This study investigated whether a polygenic risk score (PRS) based on a genome-wide association study for CUD in adults predicts cannabis use in adolescents and whether the association can be explained by inter-individual variation in structural properties of brain white matter or risk-taking behaviors.

Design And Setting: Longitudinal and cross-sectional analyses using data from the IMAGEN cohort, a European longitudinal study integrating genetic, neuroimaging and behavioral measures.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a critical biomarker associated with various physiological and pathological processes, making its detection essential for disease diagnosis and biomedical research. In this study, we developed a novel, simple, and portable visual quantification method for ALP activity in cells using an efficient CuZnS nanomaterial with peroxidase-like properties, integrated into a smartphone-based platform for enhanced usability. The CuZnS nanomaterial catalyzes the breakdown of H₂O₂, generating ·OH radicals that oxidize the colorless substrate TMB into blue oxTMB, which is subsequently reduced back to TMB by ascorbic acid (AA).

College of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Nano-Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine, Donghua University, Shanghai 201620, PR China. Electronic address:

In this work we present a near-infrared (NIR)-operated nanoswitch based on chitosan nanoparticles (EpCAM-CS-co-PNVCL@IR780/IMQ NPs) that induces cascade immunogenic tumor ferroptosis via cytokine storm. The formulation was prepared by loading a photosensitiser (IR780) and an immunotherapeutic drug (imiquimod; IMQ) into temperature- and pH-responsive chitosan-based NPs functionalized with tumor-targeting aptamers. The EpCAM aptamer can chaperone the NPs selectively into cancer cells, and allow them to enter the cell nucleus.

One-pot ligation of multiple mRNA fragments on dsDNA splint advancing regional modification and translation.

Key Laboratory of Bio-resource and Eco-environment of Ministry of Education, The College of Life Sciences, Sichuan University, 24 South Section 1, 1st Ring Road, Chengdu, Sichuan 610064, P.R. China.

Region-specific RNA modifications are crucial for advancing RNA research and therapeutics, including messenger RNA (mRNA)-based vaccines and immunotherapy. However, the predominant method, synthesizing regionally modified mRNAs with short single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) splints, encounters challenges in ligating long mRNA fragments due to the formation of RNA self-folded complex structures. To address this issue, we developed an efficient strategy using an easily obtained long double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) as a ligation splint after in situ denaturing, while parts of this dsDNA are the templates for transcribing mRNA fragments.

Litter size traits of sows are crucial for the economic benefits of the pig industry. Three phenotypic traits of 1,206 Large White (LW) pigs, that is, the total number born (TNB), number born alive (NBA), and number of healthy piglets (NHP), were recorded. We evaluated a series of genomic best linear unbiased prediction (GBLUP) models that sequentially added additive effects (model A), dominance effects (model A+D), and epistatic effects (model A+D+AA, model A+D+AA+AD, and model A+D+AA+AD+DD) using chip data and imputed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data to estimate genetic parameters and predictive accuracy.

Lamivudine plus dolutegravir (3TC/DTG) and bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (B/F/TAF) regimens are commonly used as first-line treatments for people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PLWH) worldwide. There are limited comparative data on the antiviral activity and safety between these regimens in ART-naive PLWH, particularly in China, where the 3TC/DTG regimen was integrated into first-line therapy in 2021 and gained broader adoption after its inclusion in the National Health Insurance in 2022. This study aims to provide real-world evidence comparing the 3TC/DTG regimen to the B/F/TAF regimen in ART-naive PLWH in China.
