Pentosidine is representative of the cross-linked structure of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and has been suggested as a biomarker to assess bone and muscle quality. As studies on pentosidine in young adult men remain limited, we aimed to clarify the associations of urinary pentosidine with musculoskeletal status and physical performance in young men. Participants in this study comprised 32 men (age range: 19-39 years).

Coronaviruses such as the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), and SARS-CoV-2, causing MERS, SARS, and Coronavirus disease-19, respectively, are highly pathogenic to humans. Notably, several antiviral drugs against SARS-CoV-2, such as nirmatrelvir and remdesivir, have been approved. However, no approved vaccines or antiviral agents are available for other highly pathogenic β-coronaviruses.

Background: Clinical data on patients infected with influenza B Victoria (BV) after the approval of baloxavir is lacking.
Methods: This observational study of the Japanese 2023-2024 influenza season analyzed data from 25 outpatients with A(H1N1)pdm09, 36 with A(H3N2), and 65 with BV. Viral samples were collected before and after administering an antiviral (70 patients received baloxavir and 56 received a neuraminidase inhibitor), on days 1, 5, and 10.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common form of skin cancer, but treatments for advanced cases have limited efficacy. Trophoblast cell-surface antigen 2 (TROP2) is a cell-surface protein that is widely expressed in various tumours, where it exerts significant influence over critical processes such as tumour cell growth, apoptosis, migration, invasion and metastasis. Sacituzumab govitecan, an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) targeting TROP2, is emerging as a promising strategy for anticancer therapy.

Rho kinase inhibitor fasudil exerts therapeutic effects against vasospasms. In this study, we aimed to compare its suppressive effects on serotonin (5-HT)- and noradrenaline (NAd)-induced contractions of human endothelium-denuded internal thoracic arteries (ITAs) and saphenous veins (SVs). NAd and 5-HT induced concentration-dependent contractions in both ITAs and SVs.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders. To explore its pathophysiology, we investigated the association between neonatal allergic exposure and behavioral changes. Adult female C57BL/6J mice were immunized with adjuvant (aluminum hydroxide) or ovalbumin emulsified with adjuvant.

Urolithin A (Uro-A), a type of polyphenol derived from pomegranate, is known to improve memory function when ingested, in addition to its direct effect on the skin epidermal cells through the activation of longevity gene SIRT1. However, the molI ecular mechanism by which orally ingested Uro-A inhibits cognitive decline via the intestine remains unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the role of Uro-A in improving cognitive function via improved intestinal function and the effect of Uro-A on the inflammation levels and gene expression in hippocampus.

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes of children with unilateral retinoblastoma (Rb) and high-risk histopathology features (HRHF) following upfront enucleation with/without adjuvant chemotherapy, and investigate cases locally considered non-HRHF but converted to a standardized HRHF definition.
Design: Retrospective multinational clinical cohort study.
Methods: Children with Rb who presented to 21 centers from 12 countries between 2011-2020, and underwent primary enucleation were recruited.

The interim analysis of the CIRCULATE-Japan GALAXY observational study demonstrated the association of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)-based molecular residual disease (MRD) detection with recurrence risk and benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) in resectable colorectal cancer (CRC). This updated analysis with a 23-month median follow-up, including 2,240 patients with stage II-III colon cancer or stage IV CRC, reinforces the prognostic value of ctDNA positivity during the MRD window with significantly inferior disease-free survival (DFS; hazard ratio (HR): 11.99, P < 0.

The neutron-rich unbound fluorine isotope ^{30}F_{21} has been observed for the first time by measuring its neutron decay at the SAMURAI spectrometer (RIBF, RIKEN) in the quasifree proton knockout reaction of ^{31}Ne nuclei at 235 MeV/nucleon. The mass and thus one-neutron-separation energy of ^{30}F has been determined to be S_{n}=-472±58(stat)±33(sys) keV from the measurement of its invariant-mass spectrum. The absence of a sharp drop in S_{n}(^{30}F) shows that the "magic" N=20 shell gap is not restored close to ^{28}O, which is in agreement with our shell-model calculations that predict a near degeneracy between the neutron d and fp orbitals, with the 1p_{3/2} and 1p_{1/2} orbitals becoming more bound than the 0f_{7/2} one.

Primordial carbon delivered to the early earth by asteroids and meteorites provided a diverse source of extraterrestrial organics from pre-existing simple organic compounds, complex solar-irradiated macromolecules, and macromolecules from extended hydrothermal processing. Surface regolith collected by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft from the carbon-rich asteroid 162173 Ryugu present a unique opportunity to untangle the sources and processing history of carbonaceous matter. Here we show carbonaceous grains in Ryugu can be classified into three main populations defined by spectral shape: Highly aromatic (HA), Alkyl-Aromatic (AA), and IOM-like (IL).

Background: Identification of homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) remains a challenge in advanced pancreatic cancer (APC). We investigated the utility of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) profiling in the assessment of BRCA1/2 and ATM mutation status and treatment selection in APC.
Methods: We analysed clinical and ctDNA data of 702 patients with APC enroled in GOZILA, a ctDNA profiling study using Guardant360.

Amyloid fibril formation is associated with various amyloidoses, including neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Despite the numerous studies on the inhibition of amyloid formation, the prevention and treatment of a majority of amyloid-related disorders are still challenging. In this study, we investigated the effects of various plant extracts on amyloid formation of α-synuclein.

Constructing a unipolar heterojunction is an effective energy band engineering strategy to improve the performance of photoelectric devices, which could suppress dark current and enhance detectivity by modulating the transfer of carriers. In this work, unipolar heterojunctions of Si/PbI and GaSb/PbI are constructed successfully for high-performance self-powered near-ultraviolet photodetection. Owing to the unique band offset of unipolar heterojunctions, the transport of holes is blocked, and only photogenerated electrons in PbI can flow unimpeded under the driving force of the built-in electric field.
