Thyroid hormones (triiodothyronine and thyroxine) are pivotal for metabolic balance in the liver and entire body. Dysregulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis can contribute to hepatic metabolic disturbances, affecting lipid metabolism, glucose regulation and protein synthesis. In addition, reductions in circulating and intrahepatic thyroid hormone concentrations increase the risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease by inducing lipotoxicity, inflammation and fibrosis.

The utilization of nanoformulations derived from natural products for the treatment of many human diseases, including cancer, is a rapidly developing field. Conventional therapies used for cancer treatment have limited efficacy and a greater number of adverse effects. Hence, it is imperative to develop innovative anticancer drugs with superior effectiveness.

Background: The earliest manifestation of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is steatosis characterized by deposition of fat in specialized organelles called lipid droplets (LDs). While alcohol administration causes a rise in LD numbers in the hepatocytes, little is known regarding their characteristics that allow their accumulation and size to increase. The aim of the present study is to gain insights into underlying pathophysiological mechanisms by investigating the ethanol-induced changes in hepatic LD proteome as a function of LD size.

This study investigated how early exposure to xenobiotics can lead to disease in adulthood, which is challenging for toxicologists. We employed a 'cradle to grave' approach using zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos exposed to 4-methylbenzylidene camphor (4-MBC), a commonly used organic UV filter. Molecular docking and simulation studies confirmed the predictive toxicity and stable interaction of 4-MBC with androgen and estrogen receptors, with binding energies of -9.

Sweet syndrome is a rare, etiologically unknown dermatosis that can be idiopathic or associated with certain clinical conditions. Among these conditions are infections, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, vaccinations, the use of medications, and neoplasias. Hematological neoplasias, particularly acute myeloid leukemia, are the most commonly described; however, the condition may also be related to solid tumors, being those of the genitourinary tract the most associated with the syndrome.

Background: Recipient's VEGF-A polymorphisms have been reported to be associated with the risk of acute allograft rejection. However, an association of the donor's VEGF-A gene polymorphism with rejection remained unelucidated till now.
Methods: In this study, VEGF-A gene SNPs at nine loci were analyzed in 160 kidney donors and recipients with rejection (rejectors, n = 80) and without rejection (non-rejectors, n = 80).

Background: The classification of Berlin definition is based on the PaO/FiO ratio, which has been found to have a poor association with mortality. Airway pressures reflect lung compliance and the settings of mechanical ventilators. In this study, we aimed to investigate the change in the severity of COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) classification using [PaO/FiO × PEEP] (P/FP) ratio compared to the traditional P/F ratio, and whether the P/FP ratio improves the predictive validity of in-hospital mortality.

Background And Objectives: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative blood transfusions in correcting anemia for pediatric patients with congenital malformations (CMs) versus those with acute abdomen (AA) conditions. The study hypothesized that the response to transfusions might vary significantly between these groups due to the differences in the underlying pathology and clinical status.
Methods: The study included 107 pediatric patients admitted to Timisoara 'Louis Turcanu' Emergency Hospital for Children between January 2015 and May 2023, who required blood transfusions for preoperative anemia.

The ubiquitin E3 ligase cereblon (CRBN) is the target of therapeutic drugs thalidomide and lenalidomide and is recruited by most targeted protein degraders (PROTACs and molecular glues) in clinical development. Biophysical and structural investigation of CRBN has been limited by current constructs that either require co-expression with the adaptor DDB1 or inadequately represent full-length protein, with high-resolution structures of degrader ternary complexes remaining rare. We present the design of CRBN, a construct that readily expresses from E.

Uncontrolled applications of weedicide and fertilizer can harm the soil ecology, and most significantly, earthworms are hazardous soil engineers. Thus, we aimed at the toxicity and histopathological alterations in the earthworm Eudrilus euginae following exposure to glyphosate (weedicide), urea (fertilizer), and environmentally friendly dual herb-mixed silver nanoparticles (DHM-AgNPs). The DHM-AgNPs were synthesized using a blend of Alfinia officinarum and Curcuma longa aqueous leaf extracts with 1 mM silver nitrate.

Non-small cell lung cancer comprises up to 85% of lung cancer cases and has a poor prognosis. At present, there are still no effective treatments for this illness. Evidence suggests that the prostaglandin [cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)] and leukotriene [lipoxygenase-5 (5-LOX)] pathways are involved in lung cancer carcinogenesis.

The increasing abiotic stresses from changing global climatic conditions, including drought, extreme temperatures, salinity, storms, pollutants, and floods, impend crop cultivation and sustainability. To mitigate these effects, numerous synthetic and non-synthetic chemicals or plant growth regulators are in practice. Chitosan, a natural organic substance rich in nitrogen and carbon, and thiourea, a synthetic plant growth regulator containing sulfur and nitrogen, have garnered significant interest for their roles in enhancing plant stress tolerance.

Camptothecin (CPT), an alkaloid isolated from the Camptotheca tree, has demonstrated significant anticancer properties in a range of malignancies. However, its therapeutic efficacy is limited by its hydrophobicity, poor bioavailability, and systemic toxicity. Derivatives, analogues, and nanoformulations of CPT have been synthesized to overcome these limitations.
