Assemblies at the interface represent a powerful tool for integrating organic and inorganic components into hybrid nanostructures. Carbon dots are both excellent electron donors and acceptors, offering opportunities for their potential uses in light-harvesting applications. To further improve their functions, integration of acceptor carbon dots into donor organic nanostructures is of great interest for improving photophysical properties useful for photoinduced electron transfer.

Three coamorphous systems of Rebamipide (REB) with the amino acids namely, Tryptophan (TRP), Phenylalanine (PHE) and Arginine (ARG) are reported. A unique approach for the virtual screening of amino acid coformers is presented by employing molecular docking studies based on interactions of the drug molecule with various amino acid fragments in the drug-receptor cocrystal structure. Successful formation of stable coamorphous systems with ARG, TRP and PHE served as the proof-of-concept along with negative benchmarking standards Histidine and Aspartic acid, wherein coamorphous systems could not be obtained despite multiple trials which resulted in crystalline physical mixtures.

Electronic address:

Arsenic (As) poisoning in aquifers is a serious problem worldwide, especially in the middle-Gangetic Plain (MGP) of India. Microbially-mediated As speciation in such aquifers is governed by the arsenate-reductase enzyme, ArsC, encoded by the arsC gene of As-metabolizing bacteria. In this study, ArsC1 (119 aa) and ArsC2 (141 aa) of a highly resistant strain to arsenic, Citrobacter youngae IITK SM2 (CyIITKSM2), isolated from a mixed-oxic MGP groundwater were biochemically characterized.

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is one of the leading causes of young-onset dementia before age 65, typically manifesting as abnormal behavior (in behavioral variant FTD) or language impairment (in primary progressive aphasia). Although FTD affects all populations across the globe, knowledge regarding the pathophysiology and genetics derives primarily from studies conducted in North America and Western Europe. Globally, biomedical research for FTD is hindered by variable access to diagnosis, discussed in this group's earlier article, and by reduced access to expertise, funding, and infrastructure.

Department of Physics, School of Natural Sciences, Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (SNIoE), Deemed to be University, Delhi-NCR, Greater Noida, 201314, India.

The growing popularity of electrochemical sensors featuring non-invasive biosensing technologies has generated significant enthusiasm for continuous monitoring of bodily fluid biomarkers, potentially aiding in the early detection of health issues in individuals. However, detection of multiple biomarkers in complex biofluids often necessitates a high-density array which creates a challenge in achieving cost-effective fabrication methods. To overcome this constraint, this work reports the fabrication of an electrochemical sensor utilizing a NiO-TiCT MXene-modified flexible laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrode for the separate and concurrent analysis of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA) in human sweat and also addresses the deficiencies in the existing state of the art by offering a cost-efficient and high-performance sensor that mitigates the degrading constraints of conventional LIG electrodes.

MARTINI Coarse-Grained Force Field for Thermoplastic Starch Nanocomposites.

J Phys Chem B

November 2024

Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi 110016, India.

Thermoplastic starch (TPS) is an excellent film-forming material, and the addition of fillers, such as tetramethylammonium-montmorillonite (TMA-MMT) clay, has significantly expanded its use in packaging applications. We first used an all-atom (AA) simulation to predict several macroscopic (Young's modulus, glass transition temperature, density) and microscopic (conformation along 1-4 and 1-6 glycosidic linkages, composite morphology) properties of TPS melt and TPS-TMA-MMT composite. The interplay of polymer-surface (weakly repulsive), plasticizer-surface (attractive), and polymer-plasticizer (weakly attractive) interactions leads to conformational and dynamics properties distinct from those in systems with either attractive or repulsive polymer-surface interactions.

Auxiliary effect of trolox on coenzyme Q restricts angiogenesis and proliferation of retinoblastoma cells via the ERK/Akt pathway.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics Lab, Centre for Medical Biotechnology, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida, 201313, India.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are essential for cancer signalling pathways and tumour maintenance, making ROS targeting a promising anti-cancer strategy. Coenzyme Q (CoQ10) has been shown to be effective against various cancers, but its impact on retinoblastoma, alone or with trolox, remains unreported. Cytotoxicity of CoQ alone and with trolox was evaluated in normal human retinal pigment epithelium cells (ARPE-19) and Y79 retinoblastoma cells using CCK-8.

An important hallmark of glioblastoma aggressiveness is its altered metabolism of glucose. This metabolic shift wherein the tumor cells employ aerobic glycolysis regardless of oxygen availability via reprogramming of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation is known as the Warburg effect. Previous literatures have linked this metabolic reprograming to tumor progression and glioblastoma cell proliferation making it a key target for targeted drug therapy.
