ArgR regulates motility and virulence through positive control of flagellar genes and inhibition of diguanylate cyclase expression in Aeromonas veronii.

Commun Biol

December 2024

Yunnan Provincial Key Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Feed, Faculty of Animal Science and Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University, Kunming, China.

Flagella are essential for biofilm formation, adhesion, virulence, and motility. In this study, the deletion of argR resulted in defects in flagellar synthesis and reduced motility, nevertheless, the underlying mechanism by which ArgR regulated bacterial motility remained unclear. ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq analysis revealed that ArgR regulated the expression of flagellar genes, concluding two-component system flrBC and multitudinous flagellar structure genes.

Background/aim: Silicosis, the most severe type of occupational pneumoconiosis, leads to diffuse pulmonary fibrosis without specific therapy. Ferroptosis is triggered by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Fe overload-induced lipid peroxidation, which is involved in the progression of pulmonary fibrosis. As an important coenzyme in the process of aerobic respiration, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) can enhance mitochondrial function and energy supply and reduce malondialdehyde (MDA) to limit the risk of fibrosis.

Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for the Green Preparation and Application of Functional Materials, Hubei University, Wuhan 430062, People's Republic of China; State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou 730000, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

The depletion of lubricants in (slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces) SLIPS poses a significant challenge to their long-term functionality. While line-shaped rough structures can mitigate lubricant loss to some extent, they often fail to provide the stability required for sustained performance. In this study, we present a novel porous nanoflower aluminum alloy slippery liquid-infused surface (P-NF-AA SLIPS), which integrates a porous framework with a rough nanoflower structure.

December 2024

Guangxi Colleges and Universities Key Laboratory of Food Safety and Detection, College of Chemistry and Bioengineering, Guilin University of Technology, Guilin, 541004, Guangxi, China.

Polymeric high internal phase emulsions decorated with covalent organic frameworks (polyHIPEs-COFs) were synthesized and used as the sorbent for cyantraniliprole and chlorantraniliprole. Pickering high internal phase emulsions stabilized by covalent organic frameworks solid particles and liquid surfactants (Span80 and polyvinylpyrrolidone) endow the composites with open-cell structures and superwettability. The amphiphilicity and open-cell structures enable rapid adsorption and desorption for cyantraniliprole and chlorantraniliprole, and the solid-phase extraction process can be completed in 5 min.

Department of Cardiology, Tianjin Chest Hospital, No. 261 of Taierzhuang South Road, Tianjin, 300121, China.

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI) is an important clinical complication that occurs after the application of contrast agent in percutaneous coronary intervention. The pathogenesis of CIAKI is complex. Studies have shown that cell apoptosis induced by endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) plays an important role in renal tubular injury in CIAKI.

Warfarin is the most widely used oral anticoagulant in clinical practice. The cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9), vitamin K epoxide reductase complex 1 (VKORC1), and cytochrome P450 4F2 (CYP4F2) genotypes are associated with warfarin dose requirements in China. Accurate genotyping is vital for obtaining reliable genotype-guided warfarin dosing information.

The mechanism(s) underlying gut microbial metabolite (GMM) contribution towards alcohol-mediated cardiovascular disease (CVD) is unknown. Herein we observe elevation in circulating phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln), a known CVD-associated GMM, in individuals living with alcohol use disorder. In a male murine binge-on-chronic alcohol model, we confirm gut microbial reorganization, elevation in PAGln levels, and the presence of cardiovascular pathophysiology.

By targeting the essential viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP), nucleoside analogs (NAs) have exhibited great potential in antiviral therapy for RNA virus-related diseases. However, most ribose-modified NAs do not present broad-spectrum features, likely due to differences in ribose-RdRP interactions across virus families. Here, we show that HNC-1664, an adenosine analog with modifications both in ribose and base, has broad-spectrum antiviral activity against positive-strand coronaviruses and negative-strand arenaviruses.

Ascorbic acid (AA) was used as a reducing agent to improve the Fe(III)-activated peracetic acid (PAA) system for the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in this work. The efficiency, influencing factors and mechanism of SMX elimination in the AA/Fe(III)/PAA process were studied. The results exhibited that AA facilitated the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) and subsequently improved the activation of PAA and HO.

December 2024

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, No. 39 Huaxiang Road, Shenyang , Liaoning, 110022, China.

Lung cancer (LC) is a highly malignant and metastatic form of cancer. The global incidence of and mortality from LC is steadily increasing; the mean 5-year overall survival (OS) rate for LC is less than 20%. This frustrating situation may be attributed to the fact that the pathogenesis of LC remains poorly understood and there is still no cure for mid to advanced LC.
