Background: Regular, detailed reporting on population health by underlying cause of death is fundamental for public health decision making. Cause-specific estimates of mortality and the subsequent effects on life expectancy worldwide are valuable metrics to gauge progress in reducing mortality rates. These estimates are particularly important following large-scale mortality spikes, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rice blast disease, caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, poses a severe threat to rice production, particularly in Asia where rice is a staple food. Concerns over fungicide resistance and environmental impact have sparked interest in exploring natural fungicides as potential alternatives. This study aimed to identify highly potent natural fungicides against M.

Nucleoside derivatives are important therapeutic drugs that have drawn significant attention recently. In this study, cytidine () was first exposed to react with cinnamoyl chloride in ,-dimethylformamide, and trimethylamine to obtain 5'--(cinnamoyl)cytidine, which was further treated with several acylating agents to obtain a series of 2',3'-di--acyl derivatives. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were established through spectral, analytical, and physicochemical techniques.

Most vegetable crops are severely affected by the uptake of heavy metals from the soil. Heavy metals in vegetable bodies generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) that unbalance the antioxidant defense system. This study was initiated to determine the physiological and biochemical characteristics of spinach plants grown on soil contaminated with heavy metals and responding to Bacillus cereus and Bacillus aerius were isolated from soil contaminated with heavy metals.

HMG-like dorsal switch protein 1 (DSP1) is the insect homolog of the high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein of the vertebrates. Previous studies confirmed DSP1 in , , and and were analyzed for their immune roles, survivability, and binding affinity with entomopathogenic bacterial metabolites. The present study aimed to predict, and confirm DSP1 in diamondback moth, along with the effect of DSP1 ligands in the survivability of this insect.

Background And Study Aims: The mechanism of hepatic encephalopathy is complex and has not been conclusively established. Recent studies support lower serum 25-Hydroxy Vitamin D [25(OH) D] levels in patients with hepatic encephalopathy. This study aimed to evaluate the association between serum 25(OH) D and hepatic encephalopathy in patients with decompensated cirrhosis of liver.

Zero-dose (ZD) children is a critical objective in global health, and it is at the heart of the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) strategy. Coverage for the first dose of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP1)-containing vaccine is the global operational indicator used to estimate ZD children. When surveys are used, DTP1 coverage estimates usually rely on information reported from caregivers of children aged 12-23 months.

Background: Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease which results in non-scarring hair loss on the scalp or any surface with hair. Several genetic polymorphisms of the interleukin genes have been linked with this disease but the results are inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis were done to find the association between rs3118470, rs2275913, rs3212227, and rs10889677 of the IL2RA, IL17A, IL12B, and IL23R genes, respectively, of the interleukin family with alopecia areata.

Pentafluorophenyl (PFP) stationary phase is one of the most important phases after the C18 phase in terms of its applications. Three embedded polar groups (EPG)-containing stationary phases were newly synthesized to act the EPGs as additional interaction sites. The silica surface was initially modified with (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APS).

Background And Aims: Breast cancer is one of the deadliest diseases affecting women in Bangladesh, and its prevalence is increasing year by year. Although several IL-6 single nucleotide polymorphisms have been implicated in BC susceptibility and prognosis in various studies, no research has been done to investigate the relationship between breast cancer and IL-6 in Bangladeshi women. This investigation aimed to explore the linkage between the rs1800797 variant of IL-6 and the susceptibility to breast carcinoma among women in Bangladesh.

In this study, canola ( L.) seedlings were treated with individual and combined salinity and lithium (Li) stress, with and without acetic acid (AA) or nitric acid (NO), to investigate their possible roles against these stresses. Salinity intensified Li-induced damage, and the principal component analysis revealed that this was primarily driven by increased oxidative stress, deregulation of sodium and potassium accumulation, and an imbalance in tissue water content.

Background: We aimed to estimate associations between human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) and infant growth (length-for-age (LAZ) and weight-for-length (WLZ) z-scores) at 12 months postnatal age.
Methods: In this secondary analysis of data from a maternal vitamin D trial in Dhaka, Bangladesh (N = 192), absolute concentrations of HMOs were measured in 13 ± 1 week(s) postpartum milk samples, infant anthropometric measurements were obtained soon after birth and at 12 months postpartum, and infant feeding was classified during 6 months postpartum. Associations between individual HMOs or HMO groups and LAZ or WLZ were estimated by multivariable linear regression adjusting for infant feeding pattern, maternal secretor status, and other potential confounders.

Objective: Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is a multifunctional cytokine that exerts both pro- and anti-inflammatory effects on the immune system as well as in the pathogenesis of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). We investigated whether the three common polymorphisms -1082 G/A(rs1800896), -819 C/T(rs1800871), and -592 C/A(rs1800872) in the promoter region of IL-10 have any influence on the susceptibility, severity, and clinical outcome of GBS.
Methods: IL-10 promoter polymorphisms were investigated in 152 patients with GBS and 152 healthy controls from Bangladesh using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), and allele-specific oligonucleotide-PCR (ASO-PCR).

The identification of deleterious mutations in different variants of SARS-CoV-2 and their roles in the morbidity of COVID-19 patients has yet to be thoroughly investigated. To unravel the spectrum of mutations and their effects within SARS-CoV-2 genomes, we analyzed 5,724 complete genomes from deceased COVID-19 patients sourced from the GISAID database. This analysis was conducted using the Nextstrain platform, applying a generalized time-reversible model for evolutionary phylogeny.

Evolutionary radiations of woody taxa within arid environments were made possible by multiple trait innovations including deep roots and embolism-resistant xylem, but little is known about how these traits have coevolved across the phylogeny of woody plants or how they jointly influence the distribution of species. We synthesized global trait and vegetation plot datasets to examine how rooting depth and xylem vulnerability across 188 woody plant species interact with aridity, precipitation seasonality, and water table depth to influence species occurrence probabilities across all biomes. Xylem resistance to embolism and rooting depth are independent woody plant traits that do not exhibit an interspecific trade-off.
