  • Tau is a protein that interacts with special helpers called hnRNPs, which help manage RNA in our cells.
  • Researchers studied how these hnRNP proteins behave in different brain diseases like Alzheimer's, but found they didn't stick together with the bad tau proteins as expected.
  • They discovered that the hnRNP proteins did get mixed up and moved to the wrong places in the cells during these diseases, which might affect how RNA works in the brain.

Electronic address:

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is strongly linked to cigarette smoke, which contains toxins that induce oxidative stress and airway inflammation, ultimately leading to premature airway epithelial cell senescence and exacerbating COPD progression. Current treatments for COPD are symptomatic and hampered by limited efficacy and severe side effects. This highlights the need to search for an optimal therapeutic candidate to address the root causes of these conditions.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are characterized by their exceptional susceptibility and relaxivity at ultra-low field (ULF) regimes, make them a promising contrast agent (CA) for ULF MRI. Despite their distinct advantages, the translation of these properties into clinically valuable image contrast in ULF MRI remains underexplored. In this study, we investigate the use of SPIONs to generate in vivo MRI contrast at 6.

Molecular Inflammation Group, Biomedical Research Institute of Murcia (IMIB-Arrixaca), 30120 Murcia, Spain; Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology B and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia, 30120 Murcia, Spain.

Gram-negative bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) trigger inflammatory reactions through Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and prime myeloid cells for inflammasome activation. In phosphate-limited environments, bacteria reduce LPS and other phospholipid production and synthesize phosphorus-free alternatives such as amino-acid-containing lipids like the ornithine lipid (OL). This adaptive strategy conserves phosphate for other essential cellular processes and enhances bacterial survival in host environments.

Precise Regulation of Interlayer Stacking Modes in Trinuclear Copper Organic Frameworks for Efficient Photocatalytic Reduction of Uranium(VI).

Adv Sci (Weinh)

November 2024

Department of Materials Process Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya University, Nagoya, 464-8603, Japan.

The interlayer stacking modes of 2D covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) directly influence their structural features, ultimately determining their functional output. However, controllably modulating the interlayer stacking structure in traditional 2D metal-free COFs, based on the same building blocks, remains challenging. Here, two trinuclear copper organic frameworks are synthesized successfully with different interlayer stacking structures: eclipsed AA stacking in Cu-PA-COF-AA and staggered ABC stacking in Cu-PA-COF-ABC, using the same monomers.

Vaccine adjuvants are thought to work by stimulating innate immunity in the draining lymph node (LN), although this has not been proven in humans. To bridge the data obtained in animals to humans, we have developed an in situ human LN explant model to investigate how adjuvants initiate immunity. Slices of explanted LNs were exposed to vaccine adjuvants and revealed responses that were not detectable in LN cell suspensions.
