Incorporating data-driven technologies into agriculture presents a promising approach to optimizing crop production, especially in regions dependent on irrigation, where escalating heat waves and droughts driven by climate change pose increasing challenges. Recent advancements in sensor technology have introduced diverse methods for assessing irrigation needs, including meteorological sensors for calculating reference evapotranspiration, belowground sensors for measuring plant available water, and plant sensors for direct water status measurements. Among these, infrared thermometry stands out as a non-destructive remote sensing method for monitoring transpiration, with significant potential for integration into drone- or satellite-based models.

Lysophospholipids (LPLs) and host defense peptides (HDPs) are naturally occurring membrane-active agents that disrupt key membrane properties, including the hydrocarbon thickness, intrinsic curvature, and molecular packing. Although the membrane activity of these agents has been widely examined separately, their combined effects are largely unexplored. Here, we use experimental and computational tools to investigate how lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) and lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE), an LPL of lower positive spontaneous curvature, influence the membrane activity of piscidin 1 (P1), an α-helical HDP from fish.

We report six experiments that examine how two essential components of a category-learning paradigm, training and feedback, can be manipulated to maximize learning and transfer of real-world, complex concepts. Some subjects learned through classification and were asked to classify hypothetical experiment scenarios as either true or non-true experiments; others learned through observation, wherein these same scenarios were presented along with the corresponding category label. Additionally, some subjects were presented correct-answer feedback (the category label), whereas others were presented explanation feedback (the correct answer and a detailed explanation).

Despite sound being a promising modality of communication in robotics (possessing, for example, the ability to improve people's perceptions of robots and help localize robotic systems in space), its facilitator, speakers, are a seldom-explored topic of study in robotics literature. To address this gap, we conducted three explorations into physical speaker design that identified what current robot speakers lack and potential remedies, low-level design improvements, and hardware additions. Further, we detail and explore the application of speakers on three different robotic platforms (including one industrial robot used for construction), the last evaluation of which involved an empirical study that sought to better understand the implications associated with poor-quality speakers in a mock service robotics context.

Background: Physicians have significant influence on end-of-life decisions. Therefore, it is important to understand the connection between physicians' personal end-of-life care preferences and clinical practice, and whether there is congruence between what they prefer for themselves and for patients.
Aim: Study to what extent physicians believe their personal end-of-life preferences impact their clinical practice and to what extent physicians' personal treatment option preferences differ from what they prefer for their patients.
Objective: To inform program development, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Graduate Education Special Interest Group Colleagues in Training Committee (CITC) investigated the professional development needs of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at schools/colleges of pharmacy.
Methods: A cross-sectional pilot survey examined preferred programming topics, mentoring needs, and career goals. A survey invitation was posted on AACP Connect and emailed to Graduate Program Officers and Assistant/Associate Deans for Research at US pharmacy schools/colleges for distribution to trainees.
