Background: There is a strong correlation between the level of circulating female sex hormones and the parturient growth of meningiomas. As a result, rapid changes in meningioma size occur during pregnancy, putting both the mother and fetus at risk. Large, symptomatic meningiomas require surgical resection, regardless of the status of pregnancy.

Nowadays, allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a well-established treatment procedure and often the only cure for many patients with malignant and non-malignant diseases. Decrease in short-term complications has substantially contributed to increased survival. Therefore long-term sequelae are reaching the focus of patient care.

Bronchiolitis is the most common cause of lower respiratory tract infection and hospitalization in infancy and some of the patients may require admission to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to severe form of the disease. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for ICU need. The study group was composed of 30 patients admitted to ICU with the diagnosis of bronchiolitis and 30 bronchiolitis patients that were treated in the regular ward at the same period were enrolled to the study as the control group.

Neonatal meningoencephalitis is a severe condition for the developing brain of a newborn. Radiologic findings of necrosis and liquefaction due to hemorrhagic meningoencephalitis may be confused with brain abcess. In this article, we report a neonate having liquefaction necrosis due to hemorrhagic meningoencephalitis mimicing intracranial abscess due to Proteus mirabilis.

Objective: To compare the graft success rates and audiological outcomes of bilaterally performed type 1 tympanoplasty using cartilage palisades or temporal fascia in children.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients who underwent type 1 tympanoplasty at Medical Park Hospital between May 2007 and February 2013. 27 patients (54 ears) were enrolled in the study: 15 (30 ears) in the palisade cartilage group and 12 (24 ears) in the fascia group.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of three different myringoplasty techniques, namely hyaluronic acid fat graft myringoplasty (HAFGM), fat graft myringoplasty (FGM), and temporal fascia for the closure of different sizes and sites of tympanic membrane perforations.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients who had undergone a type 1 tympanoplasty operation at our clinic between May 2007 and February 2013. The patients were divided into three groups depending on the patient's choice of technique as follows: Fat Graft Myringoplasty (FGM) (Group I), Hyaluronic Acid Fat Graft Myringoplasty (HAFGM) (Group II), and Temporalis Fascia (TF) (Group III).

The aim of this study was to determine whether endometrioma resection alters most commonly defined endometrial metabolites, lactate (Lac), N-acetylaspartate (NAA), creatine 1 (Cr1), creatine 2 (Cr2), and choline (Cho) during the window of implantation. Twenty patients with uni- or bilateral endometrioma and 7 patients having nonendometriotic benign ovarian cyst were included. Midluteal phase magnetic resonance spectroscopy analysis of eutopic endometrium was performed before surgery.

Comparative analyses have identified genomic regions potentially involved in human evolution but do not directly assess function. Human accelerated regions (HARs) represent conserved genomic loci with elevated divergence in humans. If some HARs regulate human-specific social and behavioral traits, then mutations would likely impact cognitive and social disorders.

Objective: To evaluate long-term outcomes of active surveillance (AS) applied in low-risk prostate cancer patients, and the impact of re-biopsy results on the prediction of progression.
Material And Methods: In our clinic, patients who had undergone AS for low-risk localized prostate cancer between the years 2005-2013 were included in the study. Our AS criteria are Gleason score ≤6, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level <10 ng/mL, number of positive cores <3, maximum cancer involvement ratio <50% each core.

Background: Tumors of the middle fossa or cavernous sinus (CS), or intraorbital tumors, can penetrate each other through the superior orbital fissure (SOF) or neighboring tissue. These complicated pathologies are often treated with highly invasive surgical procedures. In this article, we demonstrate surgical anatomic dissections of the CS, SOF, orbital apex (OA), and dura mater extending to the periorbita from the middle fossa, by performing an epidural dissection via a lateral orbitotomy approach, and discuss findings that may provide guidance during surgery in these regions.

After technological advances and increased experiences, more complicated surgeries including distal pancreatectomy can be easily performed with acceptable oncologic results, and decreased mortality and morbidity. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) has been shown to have several advantages including less blood loss, less hospital stay, less pain. Several studies comparing open distal pancreatectomy (ODP) and LDP resulted that both techniques have similar results according to pancreas fistulas, oncological results, costs and operation indications.

Regardless of the anatomical locations, some benign gynecological disorders (BGDs) such as peritoneal endometriosis, ovarian endometrioma, adenomyosis, uterine leiomyomas, endometrial polyps, uterine septum, and hydrosalpinges may lead to implantation failure. Despite progress in medical therapies, surgery remains a mainstay of BGDs treatment. Although our knowledge of endometrial receptivity after BGDs surgery is limited, it has allowed for significant improvement in the treatment of female subfertility.

Objectives: The study aimed to assess the current epidemiology of hypertension, including its prevalence, the awareness of the condition and its treatment and control, in Turkey to evaluate changes in these factors over the last 10 years by comparing the results with the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in Turkey (PatenT) study data (2003), as well as to assess parameters affecting awareness and the control of hypertension.
Methods: The PatenT 2 study was conducted on a representative sample of the Turkish adult population (n = 5437) in 2012. Specifically trained staff performed the data collection.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the expression level of Aurora A in human breast cancer tissues and to test whether there is a relationship between its expression levels and clinicopathological parameters including response to taxanes, tumor grade, estrogen receptor (ER) status, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status, and overall survival (OS).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 49 metastatic breast cancer patients whose clinical outcomes had been tracked after taxane treatment. The expression status of Aurora A was defined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) using the anti-Aurora A antibody.
