Objective: We believe that IgG4 may have a role in the pathogenesis of Peyronie's disease (PD), and this role could be particularly beneficial for developing new strategies; therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of IgG4 in PD.

Methods: This study included 3 groups with a total of 139 subjects: (I) PD group (n=61), (II) control group (n=48), and (III) benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) group (n=30). IgG4 measurement was performed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Introduction: Pituitary abscess is a rare lesion of the pituitary gland that can cause morbidity and mortality in the absence of appropriate treatment. They are classified as primary and secondary pituitary abscesses. Primary pituitary abscesses occur in patients with no previous pituitary pathology.

Development of new poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors in ovarian cancer: Quo Vadis?

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the fifth leading cause of cancer mortality among women, potentially due to ineffectiveness of screening tests for early detection. Patients typically present with advanced disease at diagnosis, whereas, up to 80% relapse and the estimated median progression-free survival (PFS) is approximately 12-18 months. Increased knowledge on the molecular biology of EOC resulted in the development of several targeted therapies, including poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors.

Spine Metastasis of Thymic Carcinoma in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report and Comprehensive Literature Review.

Introduction: Thymic carcinoma metastases of the spinal column are very rare, especially in pediatric patients. To our knowledge, this is the first such pediatric case in the literature.

Case Presentation: We report the case of a 14-year-old male patient with T12 and L1 metastases of thymic carcinoma.

The ubiquitin-specific protease 7 (USP7) is a highly promising well-validated target for a variety of malignancies. USP7 is critical in regulating the tumor suppressor p53 along with numerous epigenetic modifiers and transcription factors. Previous studies showed that USP7 inhibitors led to increased levels of p53 and anti-proliferative effects in hematological and solid tumor cell lines.

Angiogenesis in gynecological cancers and the options for anti-angiogenesis therapy.

Angiogenesis is required in cancer, including gynecological cancers, for the growth of primary tumors and secondary metastases. Development of anti-angiogenesis therapy in gynecological cancers and improvement of its efficacy have been a major focus of fundamental and clinical research. However, survival benefits of current anti-angiogenic agents, such as bevacizumab, in patients with gynecological cancer, are modest.

Dietary thiamine influences l-asparaginase sensitivity in a subset of leukemia cells.

Tumor environment influences anticancer therapy response but which extracellular nutrients affect drug sensitivity is largely unknown. Using functional genomics, we determine modifiers of l-asparaginase (ASNase) response and identify thiamine pyrophosphate kinase 1 as a metabolic dependency under ASNase treatment. While thiamine is generally not limiting for cell proliferation, a DNA-barcode competition assay identifies leukemia cell lines that grow suboptimally under low thiamine and are characterized by low expression of solute carrier family 19 member 2 (SLC19A2), a thiamine transporter.

COVID-19 pneumonia following double-sleeve lobectomy for lung cancer.

Here, we report a 54-year-old man who underwent double-sleeve left upper lobectomy for lung cancer and his postoperative course was complicated with COVID-19 pneumonia. Five days after his discharge from hospital, he was re-admitted with mild fever and bilateral multiple ground glass opacities on his chest CT. PCR testing confirmed COVID-19 infection and he was treated according to policies established by our nation's health authority.

Successful Treatment of Pandrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Infection With Ceftazidime-avibactam in a Preterm Infant: A Case Report.

Pandrug-resistant (PDR) bacterial infections in intensive care units are emerging as a severe problem. Therefore, new antibiotic options are urgently needed for the treatment of PDR infections in pediatric age groups, especially neonates. Herein, we report a 25 days old preterm neonate successfully treated with ceftazidime-avibactam due to a urinary tract infection caused by PDR Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Alcohol Use and Clinical Outcomes in Adults in the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange.

Objectives: Alcohol consumption has serious potential consequences for persons with type 1 diabetes. This cross-sectional study examined associations between drinking status and diabetes-related outcomes.

Methods: Participants included 934 adults at Type 1 Diabetes Exchange Registry clinics who responded to an e-mail invitation to complete an electronic survey with items on alcohol consumption; glycated hemoglobin (A1C) and body mass index (BMI) were extracted from medical charts.

Course of Urological Problems in Children with Spinal Dysraphism: Long-Term Follow-Up Results.

Background/aims: We aimed to evaluate the course of urinary problems in children with spinal dysraphism.

Methods: This multicenter study evaluated data on pediatric patients diagnosed with spinal dysraphism between 2010 and 2019. The neurological and urological conditions of the patients were examined retrospectively.

Comparison of dorsal intercostal perforator artery flap and primary closure in myelomeningocele repair.

Purpose: Of the many suggested techniques, we used dorsal intercostal perforator artery flap (DIPAF) for the closure of myelomeningocele defects. This study compared the outcomes of primary closure and DIPAF in the closure of myelomeningoceles.

Methods: Data of 24 patients that underwent myelomeningocele surgery at a single institution between November 2015 and September 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.

Effect of Afrezza on Glucose Dynamics During HCL Treatment.

Objective: A major obstacle in optimizing the performance of closed-loop automated insulin delivery systems has been the delay in insulin absorption and action that results from the subcutaneous (SC) route of insulin delivery leading to exaggerated postmeal hyperglycemic excursions. We aimed to investigate the effect of Afrezza inhaled insulin with ultrafast-in and -out action profile on improving postprandial blood glucose control during hybrid closed-loop (HCL) treatment in young adults with type 1 diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: We conducted an inpatient, three-way, randomized crossover standardized meal study to assess the efficacy and safety of Afrezza at a low (A) and a high (A) dose as compared with a standard SC rapid-acting insulin (aspart) premeal bolus during Diabetes Assistant (DiAs) HCL treatment.

Psychosocial and cultural needs of children with intellectual disability and their families among the Syrian refugee population in Turkey.

Background: Turkey is the country hosting the largest number of refugees from Syria, with currently 3 571 175 million persons. The general health needs of the refugees are being addressed; however, people with intellectual disabilities (IDs), particularly children, are relatively missed. The aim of this study was to identify medical, psychological and social needs of children with ID and their families, among the Syrian refugee population in Turkey, and to define psychosocial and cultural needs for planning of future services.

Histological Comparison of Nanocomposite Multilayer Biomimetic Scaffold, A Chondral Scaffold, and Microfracture Technique to Repair Experimental Osteochondral Defects in Rats.

Objective: We used biomimetic scaffolds, chondral scaffolds, and microfractures to repair experimentally created osteochondral defects in rat knees and then compared the results of each method.

Materials And Methods: We used a total of 56 female Wistar albino rats. The rats were grouped into 4 groups, with 14 rats each: biomimetic scaffold, chondral scaffold, microfracture, and control groups.

Impact of Accelerating Insulin on an Artificial Pancreas System Without Meal Announcement: An In Silico Examination.

Background: Controlling postprandial blood glucose without the benefit of an appropriately sized premeal insulin bolus has been challenging given the delays in absorption and action of subcutaneously injected insulin during conventional and artificial pancreas (AP) system diabetes treatment. It can be misleading to think that the new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) which has a very strong mutation and adaptation capabilities, uses only the angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2) pathway to reach target cells. Despite all the precautions taken, the pandemic attack continues and the rapid increase in the number of deaths suggest that this virus has entered the cell through different pathways and caused damage through different mechanisms. The main reason why the ACE2 pathway comes to the fore in all scientific studies is that this receptor is located at the entry point of basic mechanisms that provide alveolo-capillary homeostasis.

A Dissectional Study of the Level of Anterior Commissure of the Larynx.

Factors preventing materno-fetal transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

Although many pregnant women have been infected by coronavirus, the presence of intrauterine vertical transmission has not been conclusively reported yet. What prevents this highly contagious virus from reaching the fetus? Is it only the presence of a strong placental barrier, or is it the natural absence of the some receptor that the viruses use for transmission? We, therefore, need to comprehensively understand the mechanism of action of the mammalian epithelial barriers located in two different organs with functional similarity. The barriers selected as potential targets by SARS-CoV-2 are the alveolo-capillary barrier (ACB), and the syncytio-capillary barrier (SCB).

The Effects of Microfluidic Sperm Sorting, Density Gradient and Swim-up Methods on Semen Oxidation Reduction Potential.

Purpose: To compare the effects of microfluidic sperm sorting, density gradient and swim-up methods on the oxidative reduction potential (ORP) of split semen samples from a single patient population.

Materials And Methods: A prospective controlled study was conducted to compare the effects of three different semen processing methods using split semen samples from the same population of infertile men. The primary outcome was the ORP.

Evaluation of neuropsychological development of children diagnosed with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis: A pilot study.

Objective: Studies on primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis have supported neuromotor development delay. This study aims to examine the neuropsychological development of children with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis.

Material And Methods: This study included 30 children diagnosed with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis and 30 healthy children.

Intracranial extra-axial mesenchymal chondrosarcoma in a 16-month-old patient with a literature review of pediatric patients.

Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare high-grade malignant subtype of chondrosarcoma that is characterized by undifferentiated, round, or spindled mesenchymal cells, interspersed with islands of hyaline cartilage. We report a primary intracranial extra-axial mesenchymal chondrosarcoma in a 16-month-old patient with a review of the literature focusing on intracranial extra-axial MCs with or without skull involvement in pediatric patients, including differential diagnosis. The patient was admitted with a swelling in the right temporooccipital region.

Intracranial hemangiopericytoma after radiation treatment: first case in the literature.

Background: Radiation exposure is a known risk factor for meningioma but there are no data regarding hemangiopericytoma and radiation exposure.

Case Description: We report a 29-year-old pineoblastoma patient diagnosed with a hemangiopericytoma at a different location, after a successful surgical excision and adjuvant radiotherapy for the original tumor 4-year prior.

Conclusion: Hemangiopericytoma emergence can be seen after radiotherapy.
