Liver transplantation (LT) revolutionized the outlook for cirrhotic patients, offering a potential cure with over 80% life expectancy after 5 years. Cirrhosis, with or without hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is the primary LT indication. Living donor LT (LDLT) initially explored as an alternative, declined due to poorer outcomes.

Background: Cancer-related cerebral embolism due to direct tumor embolization results in a rare acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion (LVO). Despite the established status of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in LVO management, its effectiveness and safety remains inadequately explored in this specific patient group.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, using the Nested Knowledge AutoLit software, encompassing databases like Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, from their inception up to 9 May 2023.

The recent increase in workload and stress experienced by healthcare workers (HCW) is a significant global concern. Mindfulness enables one to be aware of emotions, thoughts, and present moment experiences. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the correlates between smoking, occupational stress, and mindful awareness levels, among HCWs within the private healthcare sector.

Objectives: Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing allogeneic HSCT, and effective prevention of GvHD is critical for the success of the HSCT procedure. Calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) have been used for decades as the backbone of GvHD prophylaxis. In this study, the efficacy and safety of Cyclosporine A (CsA) and tacrolimus (TCR) were compared in pediatric HSCT for thalassemia.

Purpose: Breast cancers exhibit molecular heterogeneity, leading to diverse clinical outcomes and therapeutic responses. Immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting PD-L1 have shown promise in various malignancies, including breast cancer. Lipocalin 2 (LCN2) has also been associated with tumor aggressiveness and prognostic potential in breast cancers.

Background: A fine-tuned pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory balance in the follicular unit is essential for cumulus expansion and successful ovulation. While the long pentraxin 3 (PTX3) gene is required for the expansion of cumulus cells (CCs), ovulation, resumption of meiosis and fertilization, the vitamin D receptor gene (VDR-X2) is required for intra-follicle redox balance. This study was planned to determine the expression pattern of VDR-X2 and PTX3 mRNA in CCs isolated from germinal vesicle (GV), metaphase I (MI), and metaphase II (MII) oocytes of PCOS patients with ovulatory dysfunction.

Background Increased posterior tibial slope (PTS) is an important risk factor for non-traumatic graft failure and revision surgery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. If a tibial posterior slope is an important factor for graft failure after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, does it affect clinical outcomes? This study aimed to evaluate the association between PTS and clinical outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Material and methods Patients undergoing arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with hamstring tendons in the clinic were evaluated retrospectively.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multisystem disease and is significantly associated with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. NAFLD has become the most prevalent chronic liver disease in Western countries, and the proportion of NAFLD-related cirrhosis among patients on liver transplantation waiting lists has increased. In light of the accumulated data about NAFLD, and to provide a common approach with multi-disciplines dealing with the subject, it has become necessary to create new guidance for diagnosing and treating NAFLD.

Small-for-size syndrome (SFSS) following living donor liver transplantation is a complication that can lead to devastating outcomes such as prolonged poor graft function and possibly graft loss. Because of the concern about the syndrome, some transplants of mismatched grafts may not be performed. Portal hyperperfusion of a small graft and hyperdynamic splanchnic circulation are recognized as main pathogenic factors for the syndrome.

Objective: Radiation necrosis (RN) is a long-term side effect of Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery that may require surgical intervention. Pentoxifylline and vitamin E have previously been shown to be effective in the treatment of RN in the published literature, but there are no data on the prophylactic use of these molecules or, more importantly, whether prophylaxis is required.
Methods: The iatrogenic RN model included 50 Sprague-Dawley rats of both sexes.
Key Clinical Message: Adult-onset Still's disease is a rare inflammatory condition with diverse clinical features. Yamaguchi criteria aid diagnosis, and pleural effusion and elevated ferritin levels are important markers. Steroids are the first-line treatment.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of postoperative hypophosphatemia on liver regeneration after major liver surgery in the scenario of Associating Liver Partition with Portal vein ligation for Staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) and living liver donation (LLD).
Background: Hypophosphatemia has been described to reflect the metabolic demands of regenerating hepatocytes. Both ALPPS and LLD are characterized by an exceptionally strong liver regeneration and may be of particular interest in the context of posthepatectomy hypophosphatemia.

Objectives: To investigate pregnancy outcomes in patients with pregnancies with a copper 380 mm intrauterine device (IUD) in situ at conception.
Study Design: In this retrospective study, we identified patients with pregnancies with a copper 380 mm IUD between 2011 and 2021 from the electronic health record system. According to their initial diagnosis, we classified the patients as having nonviable intrauterine pregnancies (IUPs), viable IUPs, or ectopic pregnancies.

Background: Two fundamental challenges in the current therapeutic approach for central nervous system tumors are the tumor heterogeneity and the absence of specific treatments and biomarkers that selectively target the tumor tissue. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the potential relationship between discoidin domain receptor 1 (DDR1) expression and the prognosis and characteristics of glioma patients.
Materials And Methods: Tissue and serum samples from 34 brain tumor patients were evaluated for DDR1 messenger ribonucleic acid levels in comparison to 10 samples from the control group, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis has performed.

Background: Associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma has been considered to be contraindicated due to the initial poor results. Given the recent reports of improved outcomes, we aimed to collect the recent experiences of different centers performing associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma to analyze factors related to improved outcomes.
Methods: This proof-of-concept study collected contemporary cases of associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma and analyzed for morbidity, short and long-term survival, and factors associated with outcomes.
