Balloon expandable coronary stenting has revolutionized the field of interventional cardiology as a potential, minimally invasive modality for treating coronary artery disease. Even though stenting is successful compared to angioplasty (that leaves no stent in place), still there are many associated clinical complications. Bare metal stents are associated with in-stent restenosis caused mostly by neointimal hyperplasia, whereas success of drug-eluting stents comes at the expense of late-stent thrombosis and neoatherosclerosis.

Previously, we have developed a novel porous hydroxyapatite/poly l-lactic-co-caprolactone (HA/PLCL) composite sandwich beam as a new scaffold material for bone regeneration. This work presents the study of bending fracture mechanisms and microdamage of porous hydroxyapatite/poly L-lactic-acid (HA/PLLA) sandwich beam, in comparison to the previous developed HA/PLCL sandwich beam. Both beams were fabricated using the sandwich method in which the single porous composite beams were layered in between two porous polymer layers of their kind.

WE43 magnesium alloy was modified using surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) and characterized to evaluate the influence of sub-micron surface modification on degradation rate and in vitro behavior. Modified surface was characterized for wettability, hardness, roughness, degradation rate, in vitro biocompatibility, and antibacterial activity as per the ASTM standards. The treated substrates proved to have a significant decrease in the degradation profile by creating micro pockets of oxidation channels and reducing the total delamination in comparison to the conventional heterogeneous oxide layer formed on the untreated substrate surface.

Estrogen, a steroid hormone synthesized by both gonadal and nongonadal tissues, plays a pivotal role in modulating immune responses, including reducing relapse rates in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). We employed machine learning (ML) techniques combined with potential-dependent photoelectrochemical impedance spectroscopy (pot-PEIS) to gain deeper insights into the charge transport mechanisms of hematite (α-FeO) photoanodes. By the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analysis from the ML model constructed from a small data set (dozens of samples) of electrical parameters obtained from pot-PEIS and the PEC performance, we identified the dominant factors influencing the electron transport to the back contact in the bulk and hole transfer to a solution at the hematite/electrolyte interface. The results revealed that shallow defect states significantly enhance electron transport, while deep defect states impede it, and also one of the surface states enhances the hole transfer to the electrolyte solution.
