In this work, a measurement setup to study the Seebeck and Nernst effect at high temperatures and high magnetic fields is introduced and discussed. The measurement system allows for simultaneous measurements of both thermoelectric effects up to 700 K and magnetic fields up to 12 T. Based on theoretical concepts, measurement equations are derived that counteract constant spurious offset voltages and, therefore, inhibit systematic errors in the measurement setup.

Light-element-based fluorescent materials, colloidal graphene quantum dots, and carbon dots (CDs) have sparked an immense amount of scientific interest in the past decade. However, a significant challenge in practical applications has emerged concerning the development of solid-state fluorescence (SSF) materials. This study addresses this knowledge gap by exploring the unexplored photonic facets of C-based solid-state microphotonic emitters.

Ultrathin MXene-based films exhibit superior conductivity and high capacitance, showing promise as electrodes for flexible supercapacitors. This work describes a simple method to enhance the performance of MXene-based supercapacitors by expanding and stabilizing the interlayer space between MXene flakes while controlling the functional groups to improve the conductivity. TiCT MXene flakes are treated with bacterial cellulose (BC) and NaOH to form a composite MXene/BC (A-M/BC) electrode with a microporous interlayer and high surface area (62.

This study focuses on the development of regiospecific hydroarylation polyaddition of naphthalene- and carbazole-based monomers with diynes under mild reaction conditions at room temperature. A 1-pyrazole substituent serves as an appropriate directing group for a Co-catalyst to efficiently activate the C-H bonds of generally inactive six-membered aromatic hydrocarbons. The 1-pyrazole groups in 2,6-di(1-pyrazolyl)naphthalene adopt planar conformations and act as directing groups, resulting in a smooth hydroarylation reaction.

A direct focused Hebeam direct machining is presented to fabricate solid-state nano-disk at the surface of a graphene multilayer micro-flake deposited on an Au/Ti/sapphire surface. At irradiation doses larger than 5.0 × 10ions cmand with a beam size well below 1 nm, graphene disks down to 20 nm in diameter have been machined with for nano-disk down to 50 nm in diameter, a central hole for preparing the positioning of a rotation axle.

Living cells actively interact biochemically and mechanically with the surrounding extracellular matrices (ECMs) and undergo dramatic morphological and dimensional transitions, concomitantly remodeling ECMs. However, there is no suitable method to quantitatively discuss the contribution of mechanical interactions in such mutually adaptive processes. Herein, a highly deformable "living" cellular scaffold is developed to evaluate overall mechanical energy transfer between cell and ECMs.

Most nonoxide catalysts based on transition metal elements will inevitably change their primitive phases under anodic oxidation conditions in alkaline media. Establishing a relationship between the bulk phase and surface evolution is imperative to reveal the intrinsic catalytic active sites. In this work, it is demonstrated that the introduction of Fe facilitates the phase transition of orthorhombic CoSe into its cubic counterpart and then accelerates the Co-Fe hydroxide layer generation on the surface during electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER).

This paper reviews quantitative characterization via transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and its application to interfacial phenomena based on the results obtained through the studies. Several signals generated by the interaction between the specimen and the electron beam with a probe size of less than 1 nm are utilized for a quantitative analysis, which yields considerable chemical and physical information. This review describes several phenomena near the interfaces, e.

Lithium-air batteries (LABs) are considered one of the most promising energy storage devices because of their large theoretical energy density. However, low cyclability caused by battery degradation prevents its practical use. Thus, to realize practical LABs, it is essential to improve cyclability significantly by understanding how the degradation processes proceed.

The production of vanillin from biomass offers a sustainable route for synthesizing daily-use chemicals. However, achieving sunlight-driven vanillin synthesis through HO activation in an aqueous environment poses challenges due to the high barrier of HO dissociation. In this study, we have successfully developed an efficient approach for gram-scale vanillin synthesis in an aqueous reaction, employing Mn-defected γ-MnO as a photocatalyst at room temperature.

It is of great significance to grasp the role of surface topography in de-icing, which however remains unclear yet. Herein, four textured surfaces are developed by regulating surface topography while keeping surface chemistry and material constituents same. Specifically, nano-textures are maintained and micro-textures are gradually enlarged.

The yield of a chemical reaction is obtained by solving its rate equation. This study introduces an approach for differentiating yields by utilizing the parameters of the rate equation, which is expressed as a first-order linear differential equation. The yield derivative for a specific pair of reactants and products is derived by mathematically expressing the rate constant matrix contraction method, which is a simple kinetic analysis method.

Manipulating the three-dimensional (3D) structures of cells is important for facilitating to repair or regenerate tissues. A self-assembly system of cells with cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and concentrated polymer brushes (CPBs) has been developed to fabricate various cell 3D structures. To further generate tissues at an implantable level, it is necessary to carry out a large number of experiments using different cell culture conditions and material properties; however this is practically intractable.

A paucity of redox centers, poor charge transport properties, and low structural stability of organic materials obstruct their use in practical applications. Herein, these issues have been addressed through the use of a redox-active salen-based framework polymer (RSFP) containing multiple redox-active centers in π-conjugated configuration for applications in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Based on its unique architecture, RSFP exhibits a superior reversible capacity of 671.

Artificial superlattice films made of Pb(ZrTi)O and Pb(ZrTi)O were investigated for their polarization states and piezoelectric properties theoretically and experimentally in this study. The developed theory predicts nontrivial polarization along neither [001] nor [111] directions in (111)-epitaxial monodomain superlattice films with uniform compressive strain. Such films were achieved via pulsed laser deposition.

The development of optoelectronically-active soft materials is drawing attention to the application of soft electronics. A room-temperature solvent-free liquid obtained by modifying a π-conjugated moiety with flexible yet bulky alkyl chains is a promising functional soft material. Tuning the elastic modulus (G') is essential for employing optoelectronically-active alkyl-π liquids in deformable devices.

Solution-processed colloidal III-V semiconductor quantum dot photodiodes (QPDs) have potential applications in short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) imaging due to their tunable spectral response range, possible multiple-exciton generation, operation at 0-V bias voltage and low-cost fabrication and are also expected to replace lead- and mercury-based counterparts that are hampered by reliance on restricted elements (RoHS). However, the use of III-V CQDs as photoactive layers in SWIR optoelectronic applications is still a challenge because of underdeveloped ligand engineering for improving the in-plane conductivity of the QD assembled films. Here, we report on ligand engineering of InSb CQDs to enhance the optical response performance of self-powered SWIR QPDs.
