In 2017, Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) published a Clinical Practice Guideline Update for the Diagnosis, Evaluation, Prevention, and Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD). Since then, new lines of evidence have been published related to evaluating disordered mineral metabolism and bone quality and turnover, identifying and inhibiting vascular calcification, targeting vitamin D levels, and regulating parathyroid hormone. For an in-depth consideration of the new insights, in October 2023, KDIGO held a Controversies Conference on CKD-MBD: Progress and Knowledge Gaps Toward Personalizing Care.

Introduction: The purpose of this European multicenter study was to describe and assess the characteristics, diagnosis, management, and recurrence of oral malignant melanoma at different European oral and maxillofacial surgery centers.
Materials And Methods: This study was based on a systematic computer-assisted database that allowed the recording of data for all primary oral mucosal melanomas treated in the involved surgical units across Europe between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2022. The following data were recorded for each patient: gender, age, site, TNM staging, metastases, symptoms, imaging features, histopathological features, treatment, complications, recurrence, follow up, and survival.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial myopathy are recognized contributors to cardiovascular morbidity, particularly ischemic stroke. AF poses an elevated risk of thrombogenesis due to irregular heart rhythm leading to blood stasis and clot formation. Atrial myopathy, marked by structural and functional alterations in the atria, is emerging as a crucial factor influencing thromboembolic events, independently of AF.

Introduction: Necrotising soft tissue infection (NSTI) is an exceptionally dangerous infectious disease targeting soft tissues with high mortality as well as morbidity. The aim of reconstructive surgery after initial debridement is to maintain function as well as to achieve a satisfactory cosmetic result.
Presentation Of Case: A 50-year-old male presented with necrotising soft tissue infection on the thorax and left upper arm following mastectomy for breast cancer.

The electromagnetic characteristics of a single-phase permanent magnet linear oscillation actuator are analyzed by the finite element method. Firstly, the basic structure and operation principle of the linear oscillation actuator are introduced. The internal stator slot and arc tooth are used to reduce the detent force.

microRNA-22 (miR-22) plays a pivotal role in the regulation of metabolic processes and has emerged as a therapeutic target in metabolic disorders, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic-associated liver diseases. While miR-22 exhibits context-dependent effects, promoting or inhibiting metabolic pathways depending on tissue and condition, current research highlights its therapeutic potential, particularly through inhibition strategies using chemically modified antisense oligonucleotides. This review examines the dual regulatory functions of miR-22 across key metabolic pathways, offering perspectives on its integration into next-generation diagnostic and therapeutic approaches while acknowledging the complexities of its roles in metabolic homeostasis.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), encompassing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, involves chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Current immune-modulating therapies are insufficient for 30-50% of patients or cause significant side effects, emphasizing the need for new treatments. Targeting the innate immune system and enhancing drug delivery to inflamed gut regions are promising strategies.

Mealworms and black soldier fly (BSF) larvae are two of the most reared insects at an industrial scale. Both may feed on by-products from agricultural and food industries. Feed efficiency is one of the most important aspects of such processes and varies between species and feed substrates and depends on the metabolic performance of the larvae.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and proteinuria each independently raise the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to investigate the relationship between proteinuria and the risk of incident AF across glycemic stages.
Methods: A cohort of 4,044,524 individuals without prior AF and type 1 DM was selected from the 2009 Korean National Health Insurance Service health checkup data.

Background: Diabetic neuropathy (DN) affects up to half of individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Despite evidence that improving metabolic and cardiovascular health can slow its progression, DN remains a significant clinical challenge due to the lack of disease-modifying therapies and effective pain management strategies. This consensus aimed to identify gaps and recommend strategies to address these challenges.

The present study investigates the molecular mechanisms of polyphenol-lipid interactions and their impact on membrane properties. Using pyrene and DPH as reporter molecules, we examined the impact of quercetin, curcumin, gallic, and salicylic acids on membranes composed of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and its mixtures with phosphatidylglycerol (PG), cardiolipin (CL), and cholesterol (Chol). Quercetin was found to increase the lipid order without affecting the lipid bilayer free volume, indicating interactions near the membrane surface.

Background: Contemporary stroke care is moving towards more holistic and patient-centred integrated approaches, however, there is need to develop high quality evidence for interventions that benefit patients as part of this approach.
Aim: This study aims to identify the types of integrated care management strategies that exist for people with stroke, to determine whether stroke management pathways impact patient outcomes, and to identify elements of integrated stroke care that were effective at improving outcomes.
Design: Systematic review with meta-analysis.

Importance: Two meta-analyses published in 2012 found breech presentation, family history of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), female sex, and primiparity to increase the risk of DDH. However, the DDH definition, reference tests, and the age of the examined children varied considerably, complicating the translation of those findings to current screening guidelines.
Objective: To evaluate the association of previously proposed risk factors with the risk of sonography-verified DDH.

Background: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is widely used in lung cancer surgery, as this technique causes less pain and faster recovery than open thoracotomy. However, significant postoperative pain persists in a number of patients, often leading to increased opioid use and opioid-related adverse events in addition to prolonged admission times. Perioperatively administered glucocorticoids have been demonstrated effective in reducing pain after other types of surgeries, but the effect in VATS remains unclear.

The cost-effectiveness of an intervention is an important factor in health care decisions about which health care services should be publicly funded and/or approved as an eligible intervention for private insurance coverage. Music therapy as a health profession lacks substantial research on the cost-effectiveness of its services and there is no overview of existing data. We therefore conducted a scoping review.

Background: Identifying asymptomatic patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) poses a challenge, and their optimal management is less certain, despite similar outcomes to symptomatic AF patients. The 'Atrial fibrillation Better Care' (ABC) pathway has been recently proposed as a holistic or integrated care approach for the comprehensive management of symptomatic patients with AF. We aimed to determine the use of the ABC pathway on clinical outcomes in asymptomatic patients with AF.

Xanthine oxidase (XO) and lactoperoxidase (LPO) are highly abundant enzymes in milk. Their substrates, xanthine and thiocyanate, are found in elevated amounts in infant saliva, leading to a proposed interaction between milk and saliva referred to as the XO-LPO system. This system is suggested to generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species with potential antibacterial effects.
