Objectives: The assessment of lumbar central canal stenosis (LCCS) is crucial for diagnosing and planning treatment for patients with low back pain and neurogenic pain. However, manual assessment methods are time-consuming, variable, and require axial MRIs. The aim of this study is to develop and validate an AI-based model that automatically classifies LCCS using sagittal T2-weighted MRIs.

Purpose: To investigate health care utilization among patients with hematologic malignancies and its association with socioeconomic position (SEP) and compare health care utilization with a cancer-free population.
Methods: Patients with aggressive lymphoma, indolent lymphoma, or multiple myeloma (MM), diagnosed between 1999-2010 and 2015-2019, participated in longitudinal patient-reported outcome research, up to 11 years post-diagnosis. Questionnaires assessed health care utilization at the general practitioner (GP), medical specialist, and additional health care.

Objectives: To evaluate whether embryo transfers at blastocyst stage improve the cumulative live birth rate after oocyte retrieval, including both fresh and frozen-thawed transfers, and whether the risk of obstetric and perinatal complications is increased compared with cleavage stage embryo transfers during in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment.
Design: Multicentre randomised controlled trial.
Setting: 21 hospitals and clinics in the Netherlands, 18 August 2018 to 17 December 2021.

With the increasing prevalence of comorbidity in an ageing population, it is crucial to better understand the impact of comorbidity on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after lymphoma or multiple myeloma (MM) diagnosis. We included 261 newly diagnosed patients (67% response rate) diagnosed with lymphoma or MM between October 2020 and March 2023 in a longitudinal survey. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) questionnaires were used to measure generic and disease-specific HRQoL.

Background: A more sustainable diet with fewer animal-based products has a lower ecological impact but might lead to a lower protein quantity and quality. The extent to which shifting to more plant-based diets impacts the adequacy of protein intake in older adults needs to be studied.
Objectives: We simulated how a transition towards a more plant-based diet (flexitarian, pescetarian, vegetarian, or vegan) affects protein availability in the diets of older adults.

Porcine in vitro embryo production (IVP) protocols have conventionally used density gradient selection (DGS) by centrifugation to prepare sperm samples and achieve successful fertilisation. However, the possible toxicity of the solutions used and the potential damage caused by the centrifugation step may have a negative effect on the quality of the sample. Microfluidic chip-based sperm (MCS) sorting has been proposed as an alternative technique for the selection of high-quality sperm with the purpose of improving reproductive outcomes in IVF.

Background: Many patients with post COVID-19 condition (PCC) require healthcare services. However, qualitative studies indicate that patients with PCC encounter many barriers to healthcare access. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine how many PCC patients report barriers to healthcare access and which barriers are reported, and to explore differences between subgroups.

For many years overnight fasting of rats before the collection of clinical pathology blood samples and necropsy has been a common procedure in toxicological studies for regulatory purposes. The fasting was thought to minimize the intragroup variability for clinical pathology and organ weights. However, depriving rats of food overnight will impact animal welfare by interfering with the general metabolism and may result in physiological and behavioural changes.

Objectives: Adherence to lifestyle interventions is crucial for the treatment of obesity. However, there is little research about adherence to lifestyle interventions in persons around retirement age. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify factors associated with the adherence to resistance training and a hypocaloric diet and (2) to describe the association between adherence and changes in body composition outcome parameters.

There has been a huge increase in the development of new e-health initiatives, including interventions supporting the interaction between patients and healthcare professionals - the clinical encounter. This interaction can influence clinical decision making during a patient's workup or treatment process. This scoping review was designed (i) to display the current landscape of web-based interventions to support the clinical encounter, and (ii) to critically appraise their composition.

This study introduces an algorithmic strategy for measuring dimensions of police presence at microgeographic units using GPS data from police patrol units. The proposed strategy builds upon the integrated theory of hot spots patrol strategy from Sherman et al. (Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice 30:95-122, 2014), focusing on three key dimensions: the frequency, duration, and intermittency of police presence.

Aims: Conventional thiopurines (azathioprine and mercaptopurine) remain standard therapy to maintain steroid sparing remission in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but are regularly discontinued due to adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Measurement of the metabolites 6-thioguanine nucleotides (6-TGN), 6-methylmercaptopurine ribonucleotides (6-MMPR) and the 6-MMPR/6-TGN ratio, may predict the development of these ADRs. Our aim was to evaluate whether early thiopurine metabolite measurements were associated with clinical outcomes.

Purpose: Annually, approximately 31,000 people experience a termination of pregnancy (TOP) in the Netherlands. In 2021, about one-third of them chose medical termination of pregnancy (MTOP). We explored experiences with MTOP and to what extent expectations, pain, and counselling in the clinic are associated with satisfaction with MTOP.

Continuous professional development among stakeholders involved in drug safety monitoring and surveillance is imperative in strengthening pharmacovigilance (PV) systems. The "Pharmacovigilance infrastructure and post-marketing surveillance system capacity building for regional medicine regulatory harmonization in East Africa" (PROFORMA) project aims to enhance the national PV infrastructure, post-marketing surveillance systems and clinical trial regulatory capabilities in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda. To achieve this, training, including short-term training (STT) activities, at various levels is required.

Objective: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a significant healthcare concern. They are often documented as free text in electronic health records (EHRs), making them challenging to use in clinical decision support systems (CDSS). The study aimed to develop a text mining algorithm to identify ADRs in free text of Dutch EHRs.
