The unit cell of the title compound, [Ni(CHClN)]·2CHOH, consists of a neutral complex and two methanol mol-ecules. In the complex, the two tridentate 2-(3-(4-chloro-phen-yl)-1-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)-6-(1-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine ligands coordinate to the central Ni ion through the N atoms of the pyrazole, pyridine and triazole groups, forming a pseudo-octa-hedral coordination sphere. Neighbouring tapered mol-ecules are linked through weak C-H(pz)⋯π(ph) inter-actions into monoperiodic chains, which are further linked through weak C-H⋯N/C inter-actions into diperiodic layers.

Schiff bases derived from aminoguanidine are extensively investigated for their structural versatility. The tridentate 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazones act as analogues of 2-formyl or 2-acetylpyridine thiosemicarbazones, where the thioamide unit is replaced by the guanidyl group. Six derivatives of 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazone were synthesized and their proton dissociation and complex formation processes with Cu(II), Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions were studied using pH-potentiometry, UV-visible, NMR and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopic methods.

Due to their indisputable biocompatibility and abundant source, biopolymers are widely used to prepare hydrogels for skin tissue engineering. Among them, cellulose is a great option for this challenging application due to its increased water retention capacity, mechanical strength, versatility and unlimited availability. Since algae are an unexploited source of cellulose, the novelty of this study is the decellularization of two different species, freshly collected from the Black Sea coast, using two different chemical surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulphate and Triton X-100), and characterisation of the resulted complex biopolymeric 3D matrices.

The goal of the current work is to showcase the synthesis of homogeneous pullulan nanofibers that are strengthened by the addition of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF). One of the main difficulties this study faced was determining the ideal water/organic solvent ratio for the electrospinning process, which would allow for the maximum reduction in the amount of organic solvent (DMF or DMSO) needed. The rheological behavior of electrospinning solutions was modulated by varying both, the pullulan concentration and solvent system composition.

Liposomes, small bilayer phospholipid-containing vesicles, are frequently used to ensure slow drug release for a prolonged and improved therapeutic effect. Nevertheless, current findings on the membrane affinity and permeability of the anticancer agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) are confounding, which leads to a lack of a clear understanding of how lipid composition impacts the distribution of 5-FU within liposomal structures and its delivery. In the current work, we report a comprehensive coarse-grained molecular dynamics (CGMD) investigation on the influence of cholesterol (CHOL) and the cationic lipid 1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane (DOTAP) on the partitioning of 5-FU in 1,2-dipalmitoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) double-bilayer systems, as well as its in vitro release from liposomes with identical lipid compositions.

Seed cakes, by-products from the cold press extraction of vegetable oils, are valuable animal feed supplements due to their high content of proteins, carbohydrates, and minerals. However, the presence of anti-nutrients, as well as the rancidification and development of aflatoxins, can impede their intended use, requiring alternative treatment and valorisation methods. Thermal treatment as a procedure for the conversion of seed cakes from walnuts, hemp, pumpkin, flax, and sunflower into valuable products or energy has been investigated in this paper.
