Celiac Disease: A Transitional Point of View.

Celiac disease (CeD) is a chronic, lifelong, multifactorial, polygenic, and autoimmune disorder, characteristically triggered by exposure to the exogenous factor "gluten" in genetically predisposed individuals, with resulting duodenal inflammation and enteropathy, as well as heterogeneous multisystemic and extraintestinal manifestations. The immunopathogenesis of CeD is complex, favored by a peculiar human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genetic predisposition, leading to gluten presentation by antigen-presenting cells to CD4+ T helper (Th) cells, T cell-B cell interactions, and production of specific antibodies, resulting in the immune-mediated killing of enterocytes and, macroscopically, in duodenal inflammation. Here, the most relevant correlations between cellular and molecular aspects and clinical manifestations of this complex disease are reviewed, with final considerations on nutritional aspects for disease management.

Role of Absorbable Polysaccharide Hemostatic Powder in the Prevention of Complications After Axillary Lymph Node Dissection in Breast Cancer Patients: A Multicenter Retrospective Analysis.

: Although breast surgery has undergone a drastic de-escalation in recent decades, axillary dissection is still indicated in some selected cases. Unfortunately, in 3-85% of cases, complications such as seroma formation occur, highlighting the need for more accurate hemostasis systems. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of absorbable polysaccharide hemostatic such as Haemocer in preventing postoperative seroma.

Factors that affect alginates: a brief review.

Alginates are widely used in dentistry for various applications due to their favorable properties, including ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and patient comfort. They are commonly employed for preliminary impressions of oral structures in dental practice. This study aims to assess the impact of different factors on the performance of alginate impression materials in dentistry.

Background: Oral cancer is a predominant and aggressive form of head and neck cancer with limited treatment options. Stevioside, a naturally occurring biocompatible compound, has gained attention for its potential therapeutic properties, although its molecular mechanistic role in OSCC merely understood. This study aims to elucidate the impact of stevioside on OSCC cells, focusing on its inhibitory effects on cell proliferation and epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMT).

Unmasking the potential: a historical perspective on the evolution of exfoliative cytology in oral cavity neoplasms.

Exfoliative cytology has proven to be a valuable diagnostic tool in the early detection of malignant neoplasms. However, its application in the oral cavity has been met with skepticism and limited investigation due to the perception that clinical examination alone is sufficient for early diagnosis. Nonetheless, recent research efforts have focused on the utility of exfoliative cytology in oral cavity neoplasms, motivated by the high mortality rate associated with oral cancer.

Outcomes of loop ileostomy after rectal resection for cancer: A prospective observational multicenter snapshot study from Multidisciplinary Italian Study group for STOmas (MISSTO).

Background: Diverting ileostomy is a common procedure in rectal cancer surgery, but it is sometimes associated with a nonnegligible rate of complications. The primary aim of this study was to analyze the incidence and types of stoma-related complications for ileostomy creation after rectal cancer resection. The secondary aims were to report the indications, the technical details, and the efficacy of stoma care provided by ostomy nurses.

The pyogenic granuloma: localization, incidence, clinical features.

Background: A pyogenic granuloma (PG) represents a swiftly proliferating benign vascular tumor situated in the skin or subcutaneous tissue, commonly observed as a reactive lesion in the orofacial area. This research intended to scrutinize the clinicopathological characteristics of pyogenic granulomas in the oral and maxillofacial region.

Methods: Seventy two participants, comprising 24 men (33%) and 48 women (67%), underwent surgical ablation of pyogenic granuloma in oral and maxillofacial regions utilizing 940nm and 980nm diode lasers.

Methods: Eighty nano-hybrid composite specimens were randomly divided into four groups (N.=20) and exposed to accelerated aging from 0 to 2 years.

Introduction: Vitamin D may be capable of interfering with the pathophysiological pathways involved in systemic sclerosis, by virtue of its well-known immunomodulatory effects. In this study, we aimed at evaluating the differences and the correlations between vitamin D levels in systemic sclerosis patients versus patients with very early systemic sclerosis.

Methods: One hundred twenty-six patients (80 definite systemic sclerosis and 46 very early systemic sclerosis) were included in this case control study.

Various causes may be responsible for hearing loss including congenital, infectious, inflammatory and neoplastic.

Water vapor thermal therapy (Rezūm System) in patients with large prostates: results from a prospective comparative study.

Background: Rezūm is a novel minimally invasive surgical technique (MIST) useful for BPH patients with medium-sized prostate (30-80 cm) refractory to medical treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Rezūm as a treatment option in large-sized prostates (>80 cm).

Methods: We performed a prospective, comparative, single-center study from June 2022 to June 2023, including consecutive patients undergoing surgery with the Rezūm System.

Background: Treponema denticola, a well-studied oral spirochete, adheres, invades, and damages periodontal tissues - gram-negative, anaerobic Treponema denticola. In previous research, sub-gingival spirochetes have correlated positively with dental plaque score, pocket, and clinical attachment level measurements. Hence, the study aims to design an immunoinformatic vaccine using a reverse vaccinology approach against Treponema denticola ergothionase.

Background: The Mediterranean diet (MD) is recognized as a cultural heritage by UNESCO, thus, is a nutritional model widely spread in all Mediterranean countries. As already demonstrated by several studies, high adherence to MD is a protective factor against many chronic diseases. Conversely, poor adherence to the diet is correlated with an increased prevalence of these pathologies.

Background: The retromolar canal (RMC) is an anatomical structure of the mandibular bone located distal to the last molar. The frequency of anatomical variation in human anatomy is approximately 30-35%. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of the retromolar canal in a population subjected to cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Three-dimensional analysis of the potency of Cocos nucifera in demineralizing the artificial enamel carious lesion: a micro-CT study.

Background: Herbal based ingredients form a more sustainable and effective means for management of ailments related to the human body. Previously plant-based extracts of Cocos nucifera had effective remineralization potential. Hence to identify the changes in enamel mineral density and volume during the remineralization procedure, this study was done with an aim of three-dimensional micro-CT analysis to identify the potency of Cocos nucifera in remineralizing the artificial enamel carious lesion.
