Background & Aims: Improving diet quality is a crucial aspect of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk management. However, in clinical practice, there is limited time to evaluate diet quality and to provide dietary advice. Patients therefore mostly depend on self-management to address their diet quality.

Thermal ablation versus surgical resection of small-size colorectal liver metastases (COLLISION): an international, randomised, controlled, phase 3 non-inferiority trial.

Background: For patients with small-size colorectal liver metastases, growing evidence suggests thermal ablation to be associated with fewer adverse events and faster recovery than resection while also challenging resection in terms of local control and overall survival. This study assessed the potential non-inferiority of thermal ablation compared with surgical resection in patients with small-size resectable colorectal liver metastases.

Methods: Adult patients (aged ≥18 years) from 14 centres in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy with ten or fewer small-size (≤3 cm) colorectal liver metastases, no extrahepatic metastases, and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0-2, were stratified per centre, and according to their disease burden, into low, intermediate, and high disease burden subgroups and randomly assigned 1:1 to receive either thermal ablation (experimental group) or surgical resection (control group) of all target colorectal liver metastases using the web-based module Castor electronic data capture with variable block sizes of 4, 6, and 8.

Background & Aims: Optimal nutritional intake is essential to support nutritional status and improve recovery in hospital patients. To monitor adequate food intake in patients, reliable and accessible methods to quantify patient food intake accurately are needed. The present study aims to compare the accuracy of two methods, Food Record Charts (FRCs) and Digital Photography (DP), in estimating food intake with the gold standard of Weighed Food Records (WFRs).

Loss-of-function GHSR variants are associated with short stature and low IGF-I.

Context: The growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor, encoded by GHSR, is expressed on somatotrophs of the pituitary gland. Stimulation with its ligand ghrelin, as well as its constitutive activity, enhances GH secretion. Studies in knock-out mice suggest that heterozygous loss-of-function of GHSR is associated with decreased GH response to fasting, but patient observations in small case reports have been equivocal.

Time-restricted versus standard-duration immunosuppression after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: Results of the prospective randomized HOVON-96 trial.

Cyclosporine A combined with mycophenolate mofetil (CsA/MMF) has become an established regimen for the prevention of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) following non-myeloablative (NMA) allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT). However, the optimal duration of immunosuppression (IS) has not yet been defined and overtreatment is of concern. We hypothesized that time-restricted IS with CsA/MMF would increase the proportion of patients with non-severe GVHD compared to standard-duration IS, thereby resulting in reduction of the relapse rate and improvement of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).

Introduction: Hysterosalpingography (HSG) and hysterosalpingo-foam sonography (HyFoSy) are commonly used tubal patency tests during the fertility work-up. Besides its diagnostic purpose, HSG with oil-based contrast can also be applied for its fertility-enhancing effect, by tubal flushing. HyFoSy is considered as less painful compared with HSG, it lacks exposure to iodinated contrast medium and ionising radiation.

Data are available concerning feeding adequacy in intensive care unit (ICU) participants, but little is known about the adequacy in post-ICU participants. This systematic review aimed to evaluate feeding adequacy in post-ICU participants and addressed causes of feeding interruption leading to suboptimal adequacy.

European Society of Intensive Care Medicine guidelines on end of life and palliative care in the intensive care unit.

The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) has developed evidence-based recommendations and expert opinions about end-of-life (EoL) and palliative care for critically ill adults to optimize patient-centered care, improving outcomes of relatives, and supporting intensive care unit (ICU) staff in delivering compassionate and effective EoL and palliative care. An international multi-disciplinary panel of clinical experts, a methodologist, and representatives of patients and families examined key domains, including variability across countries, decision-making, palliative-care integration, communication, family-centered care, and conflict management. Eight evidence-based recommendations (6 of low level of evidence and 2 of high level of evidence) and 19 expert opinions were presented.

70-Gene signature-guided adjuvant systemic treatment adjustments in early-stage ER+ breast cancer patients: 7-year follow-up of a prospective multicenter cohort study.

Background: A previous prospective multicenter study revealed the change of the oncologists' chemotherapy advice due to the 70-Gene signature (GS) test result in half of the estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) invasive early-stage breast cancer patients with disputable chemotherapy indication. This resulted in less patients receiving chemotherapy. This study aims to complement these results by the 7-year oncological outcomes according to the 70-GS test result and the oncologists' pre-test advice.

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and subsequent free thyroxine (FT4) concentrations outside the reference interval (RI) are used to diagnose thyroid diseases. Most laboratories do not provide age-specific RIs for TSH and FT4 beyond childhood, although TSH concentrations vary with age. Therefore, we aimed to establish TSH and FT4 age-specific RIs throughout life and aimed to determine whether using these RIs would result in reclassification of thyroid disease diagnoses in adults.

Impact of comorbidity on health-related quality of life in newly diagnosed patients with lymphoma or multiple myeloma: results from the PROFILES-registry.

With the increasing prevalence of comorbidity in an ageing population, it is crucial to better understand the impact of comorbidity on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after lymphoma or multiple myeloma (MM) diagnosis. We included 261 newly diagnosed patients (67% response rate) diagnosed with lymphoma or MM between October 2020 and March 2023 in a longitudinal survey. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) questionnaires were used to measure generic and disease-specific HRQoL.

Prospective multicenter study to describe the prevalence, outcomes, and management of phosphate disorders in intensive care patients: Study protocol for part B of the international GUTPHOS study.

Background: Aberrations in blood phosphate (Pi) levels, whether presenting as hypo- or hyperphosphatemia, appear to be associated with clinical complications and adverse outcomes in patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).
