Suboptimal Oral Health, Multimorbidity, and Access to Dental Care.

JDR Clin Trans Res

October 2024

Dentistry, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University, London, ON, Canada.

Introduction: Emerging studies on the links between suboptimal oral health and multimorbidity (MM), or the co-existence of multiple chronic conditions, have raised controversy as to whether enhancing access to dental care may mitigate MM in those with suboptimal oral health. In this study, we aim to assess the extent of the association between suboptimal oral health and MM and whether access to dental care can modify this association.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) (N = 44,815, 45 to 84 y old).

In elderly patients with high-risk classic Hodgkin lymphoma (c-HL), we evaluated the impact of a new modality treatment without bleomycin, that is, liposomal doxorubicin (NPLD)-based regimen plus consolidation radiotherapy of residual nodal masses (RNMs), on overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS). In this retrospective study (2013-2023) conducted in tertiary hospitals in the bay of Naples (Italy), 50 older adults (median age, 69 years; range, 60-89) with advanced stage c-HL received frontline treatment with MVD ± irradiation. MVD consisted of 25 mg/m of NPLD along with standard Vinblastine and Dacarbazine for a total of 6 cycles (twelve iv administrations, every 2 weeks) followed by radiation of RNMs with size ≥ 2.

Electronic address:

Background: Mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (MPS VI) is due to a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme arylsulfatase B (ARSB) that results in multi-organ accumulation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Limitations of current treatments prompted the development of a liver-directed gene therapy clinical trial for MPS VI.

Methods: We report the long-term follow-up of patients with MPS VI who discontinued enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) and received a single intravenous infusion of high-dose (6 × 10 genome copies/kg) recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 8 (AAV8) vector expressing ARSB under the control of a liver-specific promoter (ClinicalTrials.

Transcatheter treatments for structural heart disease, including edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (mTEER), heavily rely on transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) for pre-procedural assessment and guidance. Trans-septal puncture (TSP) is one of the first key steps of such procedures, with two-dimensional (2D) TOE often providing suboptimal imaging. Three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography could overcome the limitations of 2D TOE and improve the assessment of tenting height.
