Objective: People with multiple sclerosis (MS) might experience symptoms that are usually underestimated. Dysphagia should be evaluated within the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), but clinicians often do not assess it properly. The objectives of this study are as follows: To assess the prevalence of dysphagia in patients with MS utilizing the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire (SDQ); to examine the correlation with the EDSS; to investigate the relationship between dysphagia and clinico-demographic characteristics of MS.

Multifragmentary and displaced zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures are often a challenge for the maxillofacial surgeon. The aim of this study was to evaluate the improved performance in the management of patients with tripod fracture of the orbito-zygomaticomaxillary complex, using two different methods of virtual surgical planning - virtual reduction and mirroring - compared with traditional management. A cohort of 60 patients was selected and divided into three groups, each consisting of 20 individuals.

Background & Aims: Breast cancer (BC) is frequently linked with obesity, metabolic syndrome, and sarcopenia. Therefore, measuring or accurately estimating resting energy expenditure (REE) is crucial for tailoring nutritional needs, managing weight and prevent under- or over-nutrition. We aimed to measure and compare REE between women with BC and a matched control group.

Background: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a common disease associated with atherosclerosis, leading to significant mortality and morbidity worldwide. Our study focuses on the association between insulin resistance (IR) and PAD, specifically investigating the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) as a potential surrogate marker of IR in the context of PAD by pooling the existing studies on this topic.
Methods: Online databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Web of Science, were searched to find the studies comparing the TyG index in PAD vs.

Gliomas of the brainstem represent a small percentage of central nervous system gliomas in adults. Due to the proximity of the tumor to critical structures, radical surgery is highly challenging and limited to selected cases. In addition, postoperative treatments, which become exclusive to non-operable patients, do not guarantee satisfactory disease control, making the progression of the disease inevitable.

To evaluate the efficacy of open and percutaneous pedicle screw fixation in the treatment of thoracolumbar fractures. Online databases MEDLINE (PubMed), SCOPUS, and Cochrane were searched for English language articles published between January 2001 and December 2023, limited to articles that included the clinical and radiological outcomes of adult patients. The main outcome measures of the study were the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) score, and the Cobb angle.

Background: The antisense oligonucleotide against APOC3 mRNA volanesorsen was recently introduced to treat Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS). Cases of decreased platelet count are reported among patients treated with volanesorsen. The aim of the study was to evaluate platelet function and thrombin generation (TG) assessment in FCS patients receiving volanesorsen.

Background: Fibro-calcific aortic valve disease (FCAVD) is a progressive disorder characterized by the thickening and calcification of the aortic valve, eventually leading to aortic stenosis. Adiponectin and leptin, known for their anti-inflammatory and proinflammatory properties, respectively, have been implicated in cardiovascular diseases, but their associations with FCAVD are controversial. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the relationships between adiponectin and leptin levels and FCAVD, particularly in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS).

Robot-assisted extravesical ureteral reimplantation (REVUR) was described for the first time in 2004. Since then, the surgical approach of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) has changed dramatically. The benefits of this technique are great when compared to the laparoscopic or traditional open approaches.

Background: Randomized controlled trials suggest that prophylactic doses of anticoagulants effectively prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized medical patients with high thromboembolic risk. However, no prospective studies exist regarding the real-world prevalence of prophylactic anticoagulant use. This prospective study aimed to determine the rate and predictors of thromboprophylaxis in an unselected population of patients hospitalized in medical departments.

Anderson-Fabry disease (AFD) is a lysosomal storage disorder, depending on defects in alpha galactosidase A activity, due to a mutation in the galactosidase alpha gene. Cardiovascular involvement represents the leading cause of death in AFD. Cardiac imaging plays a key role in the evaluation and management of AFD patients.

Introduction: Intraoperative fluorescence guidance is a well-established surgical adjunct in high-grade glioma surgery. In contrast, the clinical use of such dyes and technology has been scarcely reported in skull base surgery.
Research Question: We aimed to systematically review the clinical applications of different fluorophores in both open and endonasal skull base surgery.

Background: A 1.5-stage revision could be an alternative to a 2-stage revision for treating hip and knee chronic periprosthetic infections, guaranteeing the maintenance of joint function and infection control and preventing infection-free patients from undergoing further surgery. Our systematic review aimed to answer several questions about the indication, the infection eradication rate, and the long-term functional outcome of 1.

Introduction: The term 'chronic inflammatory arthritis' (IA) can be used to define a group of heterogeneous diseases in which inflammation of the synovium is the common feature while having different pathogenesis and clinical outcomes. This condition can be found in osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and hemophilic arthropathy (HA).
Aim: The objective is to try to highlight similarities and differences in the three pathological conditions and understand both molecular and physiological mechanisms.

Introduction: Renovascular hypertension (RVH) remains underdiagnosed despite its significant cardiovascular and renal morbidity.
Aim: This survey investigated screening and management practices for RVH among hypertensive patients in Italian hypertension centres in a real-life setting. Secondary, we analysed the current spread of renal denervation (RDN) and the criteria used for its eligibility.
