Introduction: Continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRTs) require constant monitoring and periodic treatment readjustments, being applied to highly complex patients, with rapidly changing clinical needs. To promote precision medicine in the field of renal replacement therapy and encourage dynamic prescription, the Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative (ADQI) recommends periodically measuring the solutes extracorporeal clearance with the aim of assessing the current treatment delivery and the gap from the therapeutic prescription (often intended as effluent dose). To perform this procedure, it is therefore necessary to obtain blood and effluent samples from the extracorporeal circuit to measure the concentrations of a target solute (usually represented by urea) in prefilter, postfilter, and effluent lines.

Validation of the Italian version of the Peyronie's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ).

Int J Impot Res

September 2024

Urological Clinic, Department of Medical, Surgical and Health Sciences, Cattinara Hospital, University of Trieste, Trieste, Italy.

Peyronie's disease (PD) is a connective tissue disorder characterized by the formation of fibrous plaques in the tunica albuginea of the penis which can result in pain, deformity and erectile dysfunction (ED). The Peyronie's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ) assesses the severity of symptoms, including pain, penile curvature and ED, as well as the impact on sexual function, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life of PD patients. Previous studies validated the PDQ in languages other than English and confirmed its test-retest reliability and clinical utility.

Since the publication of the landmark thrombectomy trials in 2015, the field of endovascular therapy for ischemic stroke has been rapidly growing. The very low number needed to treat to provide functional benefits shown by the initial randomized trials has led clinicians and investigators to seek to translate the benefits of endovascular therapy to other patient subgroups. Even if the treatment effect is diminished, currently available data has provided sufficient information to extend endovascular therapy to large infarct core patients.

The KEYNOTE-564 randomised controlled trial showed a disease-free survival benefit of adjuvant pembrolizumab (aPZB) in comparison to placebo for patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) at high risk of recurrence. Despite its recommendation by the European Association of Urology guidelines, the ultimate value of aPZB has recently been questioned. Arguably, patients who might benefit the most from aPZB are those whose probability of RCC recurrence outweighs their probability of dying from other causes over a reasonable timeframe after surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • * The main findings indicated that 14.8% of patients suffered from unfavorable outcomes due to significant complications or low quality-of-life scores post-surgery, with most patients showing good satisfaction overall.
  • * Logistic regression revealed that middle-aged men faced a higher risk of dissatisfaction after PPI compared to younger and older patients, while other factors like erectile dysfunction cause and surgical volume didn't significantly affect outcomes.
