It is still a challenge to develop advanced materials able to simultaneously remove more than one pollutant. Exclusive cationic composite double- and triple-network cryogels, with adequate sustainability in the removal of CrO and HPO oxyanions, were developed in this work starting from single-network (SN) sponges. Chitosan (CS), as the only polycation originating from renewable resources, and poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate) (PDMAEMA) and polyethyleneimine (PEI), as synthetic polycations, were employed to construct multi-network cationic composite cryogels.

Unlabelled: Besides their common link with unemployment, unemployment benefits are also relevant to the decision to become an entrepreneur. We thoroughly explored this relationship for a panel of 23 EU countries over the period 2001-2019. Our results demonstrate that generous unemployment compensations hinder entrepreneurial initiative, and those opportunity entrepreneurs, who are more likely to create new jobs and innovation, are affected more.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored how grape seed essential oil (GCEO) affects anxiety and memory issues caused by scopolamine (SCOP) in zebrafish, with GCEO showing significant improvement in both areas.
  • The chemical analysis of GCEO revealed that limonene was the primary component, along with others like α- and β-pinene, which may contribute to its effects.
  • Results indicated that GCEO reduced oxidative damage and improved cholinergic system function by lowering acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, suggesting its potential therapeutic role in memory impairment.

Compared to the tremendous volume of studies focusing on children and teenagers without disabilities, research regarding weight and body composition among young populations with an intellectual disability is relatively rare. Their number further decreases when we refer to specific age groups with intellectual deficits, such as children and adolescents younger than 18. In addition, studies are even scarcer when we wish to compare groups of subjects with different degrees of intellectual disability by gender.

Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) have become increasingly popular among adolescents, either as an alternative to conventional cigarettes (CCs) or as a newly acquired recreational habit. Although considered by most users as a safer option for nicotine intake, these devices pose significant health risks, resulting in multisystem damage. Heat-not-burn products, which, unlike ENDS, contain tobacco, are also alternatives to CCs that consumers use based on the idea that their safety profile is superior to that of cigarettes.

The management of children with complex and life-threatening heart malformations became a clinical conundrum during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The pathophysiological features of the new coronavirus infection have raised major dilemmas regarding the postoperative evolution of an infected patient, and the epidemiological limitations have tightened the criteria for selecting cases. We present the case of a newborn diagnosed with total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) who underwent surgical repair of the defect with favorable outcome, despite a prior diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Dementia represents a clinical syndrome characterised by progressive decline in memory, language, visuospatial and executive function, personality, and behaviour, causing loss of abilities to perform instrumental or essential activities of daily living. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer's disease (AD), which accounts for up to 80% of all dementia cases. Despite that extensive studies regarding the etiology and risk factors have been performed in recent decades, and how the current knowledge about AD pathophysiology significantly improved with the recent advances in science and technology, little is still known about its treatment options.

University of Bucharest, Faculty of Geography, 1 Nicolae Bălcescu Street, 010041, Bucharest, Romania; Academy of Romanian Scientists, 54 Splaiul Independentei Street, 050094, Bucharest, Romania. Electronic address:

While the analysis of spatio-temporal changes in the net primary productivity (NPP) of forests can provide critical information on carbon cycle and climate change, these ecological trends have remained unclear in many countries worldwide, including Romania. By using complex (satellite, forest and climate) data, many sophisticated (machine learning) algorithms and some widely applied (the Mann-Kendall test and Sen's slope estimator) statistical procedures, this study investigates, for the first time, recent forest NPP trends (1987-2018) that occurred in Romania, in relation to climate change that affected the country over the past decades. Following the modelling, mapping and assessment of NPP dynamics, results showed almost exclusively positive trends for this ecological parameter, which accounts for ∼99% of all forest NPP changes that occurred throughout the country, after 1987.

Research and theoretical models of self-determination and self-concept claim that microsystem ecological factors have an influence and manifest a predictive role in the relationship between self-concept and self-determination. Knowing the mechanisms through which personal and contextual factors influence or predict the self-determined behavior of students with disabilities, they will become benchmarks in the development of educational and therapeutic intervention programs that aim to promote and enhance the actions and skills associated with self-determination. The purpose of this study was to examine the degree to which several personal and family factors affect and explain the relationship between students' self-concept and self-determination actions, attitudes, and skills.
