Ubiquitin, a conserved protein in eukaryotic cells, exists as a monomer or polyubiquitin chains known as isopeptide-linked polymers. These chains are attached to a substrate or other ubiquitin molecules through a covalent bond between the α-amino group of lysine in ubiquitin and glycine in the C-terminal of the subsequent ubiquitin unit. The choice of the specific lysine residue in ubiquitin for forming ubiquitin-ubiquitin chains determines its biochemical and biological function.

The development of sustainable and well-performing food packaging materials takes on critical significance, whereas it is still challenging. To overcome the shortcomings of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a degradable packaging material, in this work, hydrophobic quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) modified cellulose nanofibers (CNF) and tannic acid‑iron ion coordination complexes (TA-Fe) were adopted for the preparation of functional PVA films. The modified CNF (CNF-QAS) not only improved the mechanical properties and water resistance of PVA, but also endowed it with antibacterial ability.

Background: Paenarthrobacter nicotinovorans ATCC 49919 uses the pyridine-pathway to degrade nicotine and could provide a renewable source of precursors from nicotine-containing waste as well as a model for studying the molecular evolution of catabolic pathways and their spread by horizontal gene transfer via soil bacterial plasmids.

Results: In the present study, the strain was sequenced using the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 and Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) MinION platforms. Following hybrid assembly with Unicycler, the complete genome sequence of the strain was obtained and used as reference for whole-genome-based phylogeny analyses.

In this paper, we investigate the decomposition of a toxic organic compound, Rhodamine B, by the photocatalytic activities of undoped and nitrogen-doped ZrO thin films, deposited using the HiPIMS technique. The investigation was performed in the presence and in the absence of HO, for two types of experimental arrangements: the irradiation of the films, followed by dipping them in the Rhodamine B solutions, and the irradiation of the films dipped in the solution. The two situations were named "direct irradiation" and "indirect irradiation", respectively.

In the global context of climate change and carbon neutrality, this work proposes a strategy to improve the light absorption of photocatalytic water-splitting materials into the visible spectrum by anion doping. In this framework, reactive high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) of a pure Zr target in Ar/N/O gas mixture was used for the deposition of crystalline zirconium oxynitride (ZrON) thin films with variable nitrogen doping concentration and energy band-gap. The nitrogen content into these films was controlled by the discharge pulsing frequency, which controls the target surface poisoning and peak discharge current.

The aim of this study was to identify the existence of some relationships between certain psychomotor behaviors, which we consider specific to swimming, and learning to execute the technique of some swimming styles (front crawl and backstroke). The study was carried out for 10 months and included 76 children (40 boys and 36 girls) aged between 6 and 9 years who practice recreational swimming in a city in Romania. Several tools were used: the Tapping test for manual dexterity, the Goodenough test for body schema, the Flamingo test for static balance, and the horizontal buoyancy test for body balance on the water.

Some possible correspondences between the Scale Relativity Theory and the Space-Time Theory can be established. Since both the multifractal Schrödinger equation from the Scale Relativity Theory and the General Relativity equations for a gravitational field with axial symmetry accept the same SL(2R)-type invariance, an Ernst-type potential (from General Relativity) and also a multi-fractal tensor (from Scale Relativity) are highlighted in the description of complex systems dynamics. In this way, a non-differentiable description of complex systems dynamics can become functional, even in the case of standard theories (General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics).

Thus, our approach here presents, in a synergistic manner, the significant correlation between mental health and the increased values of biodiversity in the ecosystems located in the immediate vicinity, especially those located in the middle of cities. A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data.

A search for a long-lived, heavy neutral lepton (N) in 139  fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13  TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is reported. The N is produced via W→Nμ or W→Ne and decays into two charged leptons and a neutrino, forming a displaced vertex. The N mass is used to discriminate between signal and background.
