Paclitaxel for second-line treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck: A multicenter retrospective Italian study.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) accounts for 3% of all malignant tumors in Italy. Immune checkpoint inhibitors combined with chemotherapy is first-line treatment for SCCHN; however, second-line treatment options are limited. Taxanes are widely used for combination therapy of SCCHN, as clinical trials have shown their efficacy in patients with this disease, particularly in patients with prior therapy.

Respiratory Viruses in Patients With Hematological Malignancy in Boreal Autumn/Winter 2023-2024: EPICOVIDEHA-EPIFLUEHA Report.

Community-acquired respiratory viral infections (CARV) significantly impact patients with hematological malignancies (HM), leading to high morbidity and mortality. However, large-scale, real-world data on CARV in these patients is limited. This study analyzed data from the EPICOVIDEHA-EPIFLUEHA registry, focusing on patients with HM diagnosed with CARV during the 2023-2024 autumn-winter season.

In vitro activity and genomic characterization of KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical blood culture isolates resistant to ceftazidime/avibactam, meropenem/vaborbactam, imipenem/relebactam: an Italian nationwide multicentre observational study (2022-23).

Objectives: To evaluate the in vitro activity of ceftazidime/avibactam, meropenem/vaborbactam, imipenem/relebactam and comparators against KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) clinical isolates collected from a multicentre study in Italy (2022-23) and genomic characterization of the molecular mechanisms causing resistance.

Methods: Consecutive KPC-Kp isolates from blood cultures (n = 264) were collected from 14 hospital centres in the period 2022-23. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed using broth microdilution.

Actionable non-small cell lung cancer mutation identification by comprehensive genomic profiling for clinical trial enrollment: the European Program for the ROutine testing of Patients with Advanced lung cancer (EPROPA).

Background: To reduce the gap about the relevant heterogeneity of molecular testing and cancer care across Europe, Women Against Lung Cancer in Europe (WALCE) promoted the European Program for ROutine testing of Patients with Advanced lung cancer (EPROPA) and provided a free-of-charge molecular profiling platform for non-small cell lung cancer sample characterization with the aim of increasing the detection of targetable drivers and improving patients' access to clinical trials.

Methods: From January 2021 to December 2023, 20 centres located at 5 different European countries (Greece, Slovenia, Romania, Albania and Italy) joined EPROPA, with 555 advanced NSCLC patients registered into the program. Anonymized patients' clinical-pathological data were shared through the EPROPA web platform and tissue samples were collected to the Molecular Pathology Unit of the Reference Center (University of Turin) for molecular analyses.

CT Characterization of Lipid Metabolism in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma: Relationship Between Liver Hounsfield Unit Values and Adipose Differentiation-Related Protein Gene Expression.

Radiogenomics is an emerging field that links imaging features with molecular characteristics of diseases. In clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), metabolic reprogramming leads to lipid accumulation, influenced by the adipose differentiation-related protein (ADFP). This study aimed to investigate whether hepatic and tumoral Hounsfield Unit (HU) values could serve as noninvasive radiogenomic biomarkers for ADFP expression in ccRCC.

Ladies project: large database in endometrial cancers for a personalized treatment.

Purpose: To compare Italian use with current international guidelines and to evaluate oncological outcomes and toxicity patterns of adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) for endometrial cancer (EC) in Italian women.

Materials And Methods: To conduct a retrospective multicentre Italian study a large database was set up. Inclusion criteria were: accrual between 2010 and 2020, treatment with surgery, post-operative external beam RT (EBRT) and/or interventional radiotherapy (IRT) associated or not with adjuvant chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy infusion for cancer patients with the assistance of immersive virtual reality (IVR): a scoping review of the literature.

Purpose: To summarize scientific findings related to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy infusions assisted by Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR). The study focused on the involvement of nurses, the sole healthcare professionals authorized to administer the chemotherapy infusion, and evaluated the extent to which IVR helped reduce anxiety and distress.

Minimally invasive liver surgery has become widely accepted as a safe and effective approach, especially with experienced surgeons. Robotic hepatectomy may offer significant benefits in challenging procedures like caudate lobe resection. The caudate lobe's intricate anatomy and deep-seated location make its resection particularly challenging, with limited reports on minimally invasive techniques.

Uveitis in paediatric Behçet disease: a large multicentric Italian cohort.

Background: Behçet disease (BD) is a rare disease in childhood and its uveitis may lead to blindness if not properly treated.

Objectives: We aim to describe a cohort of paediatric BD patients with uveitis.

MiRNA Expression in Long-Distance Runners with Musculoskeletal Pain: Implications for Pain Pathophysiology.

: miRNAs are short, non-coding RNAs whose deregulation has been shown in painful processes, including musculoskeletal pain. This condition, which causes disability, impacts quality of life, and contributes to substantial healthcare costs, is also a critical issue in sports. In this case-control study, we evaluated the expression of four miRNAs involved in inflammation in runners with musculoskeletal pain and elucidated their functions and pathophysiological implications.

Changes in clinical presentation, management, and survival outcomes in patients affected by colorectal cancer following COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: As an extended analysis of the COVID-DELAY study, we aimed to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on diagnosis, staging, and survival outcomes among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnosis performed from 2019 to 2022.

Methods: All consecutive newly diagnosed CRC patients referred to 11 Italian Oncology Departments between March and December 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 were enrolled. Access rate, demographics, diagnostic-therapeutic temporal intervals, and first-line progression-free survival (PFS) and OS among metastatic patients were assessed.

Lymphoma and plasma cell disorders are the most common indications for autologous hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation. We conducted a prospective multicenter study with the aim of testing the feasibility of plerixafor (PLX) in combination with R-DHAP and G-CSF in 37 patients with relapsed refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (R/R DLBCL) in order to collect a large number of HSC with a goal of transplantation. After R-DHAP, daily monitoring of peripheral blood CD34 + cells by flow cytometry was performed starting on day + 13.

Intermittent or Continuous Panitumumab Plus Fluorouracil, Leucovorin, and Irinotecan for First-Line Treatment of RAS and BRAF Wild-Type Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: The IMPROVE Trial.

Stroke thrombectomy in the elderly: A propensity score matched study on a nationwide real-world registry.

Introduction: Data on safety and efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke in older patients are limited and controversial, and people aged 80 or older were under-represented in randomized trials. Our aim was to assess EVT effect for ischemic stroke patients aged ⩾80 at a nationwide level.

Patients And Methods: The cohort included stroke patients undergoing EVT from the Italian Registry of Endovascular Treatment in Acute Stroke (IRETAS).

Clinical impact of ceftazidime/avibactam on the treatment of suspected or proven infections in a large cohort of patients with haematological malignancies: a multicentre observational real-world study.

Objectives: To evaluate clinical impact of ceftazidime/avibactam on treating infections due to MDR Gram-negative bacteria in patients with haematological malignancies (HMs).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational study at 17 Italian haematological wards that included patients with HMs receiving ceftazidime/avibactam for the treatment of suspected or proven infections. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality 30 days after infection onset.

Floating knee: A new prognostic classification.

Introduction: Usually ipsilateral fractures of the femur and tibia are not compatible with good results and require surgery. The unsatisfactory results are more likely due to complex patterns of fractures, compromised soft tissue, associated ligament injuries, and concomitant vital organ injuries. There are many classifications to describe this type of fracture but none of them is a prognostic classification.

Management of de novo Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mHSPC) and the role of Radiation Therapy: A Consensus by the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO).

Purpose: Prostate cancer treatments paradigms are in continuous evolution, especially in the metastatic setting. In this context, the Genito-Urinary Group of Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology aimed to create a consensus on radiation therapy indication in de novo metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer both on primary tumor and metastatic sites.

Methods: A panel of experts, involved in clinical management of prostate cancer, through the estimate-talk-estimate method, developed a list of items and correspondent statements on the identified topic.

Long-term real world evidence of CPX-351 of high-risk AML patients identified high rate of negative MRD and prolonged OS.

CPX-351 has been approved for patients with therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (MRC-AML). No extensive data are available on MRD and long-term clinical outcome using CPX-351 in AML in real-life. We retrospectively collected data from 168 patients in 36 centers in France and Italy who had received one or two cycles of induction with CPX-351.
