The combination of rituximab, bendamustine, and low-dose cytarabine (R-BAC) has been studied in a phase 2 prospective multicenter study from Fondazione Italiana Linfomi (RBAC500). In 57 previously untreated elderly patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), R-BAC was associated with a complete remission rate of 91% and 2-year progression-free survival (PFS) of 81% (95% confidence interval [CI], 68-89). Here, we report the long-term survival outcomes, late toxicities, and results of minimal residual disease (MRD) evaluation.

Article Synopsis
  • * An analysis of fecal calprotectin (FCP) levels in 329 SRMI patients revealed that over half had elevated FCP values, indicating potential intestinal inflammation, particularly in those who reported symptoms.
  • * While FCP showed higher levels in "lactose tolerants" and "maldigesters/intolerants," it was not effective in distinguishing between lactose tolerant and intolerant patients, suggesting an underlying allergic or inflammatory mechanism in some SRMI cases.

The Lugano classification for response assessment in lymphoma recommends the use of the 5-point-scale Deauville Score (DS) to assess response evaluation of end-of-treatment FDG-PET/CT (eotPET) in Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL); nevertheless, there is a paucity of data on its accuracy and reproducibility. We focus here on the cohort of advanced stage IIb-IV HL patients enrolled in the HD0607 clinical trial (NCT identifier 00795613) that having had a negative interim PET performed 6 cycles of ABVD (Doxorubicin, Vinblastine, Vincristine and Dacarbazine) and then performed an eotPET. Negative patients were randomized to radiotherapy and no further treatment while positive patients were treated based on local policies.

Anemia in Celiac Disease: Prevalence, Associated Clinical and Laboratory Features, and Persistence after Gluten-Free Diet.

J Pers Med

September 2022

Unit of Internal Medicine, "V. Cervello" Hospital, Ospedali Riuniti "Villa Sofia-Cervello", Palermo, Italy, and Department of Health Promotion Sciences, Maternal and Infant Care, Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties (PROMISE), University of Palermo, 90146 Palermo, Italy.

Article Synopsis
  • - Anemia is a common issue in patients with Celiac Disease (CD) and is often linked to iron deficiency, with over half of studied patients showing signs of mild to moderate anemia.
  • - A study of 159 CD patients revealed that 46% of those initially anemic continued to have anemia even after following a strict gluten-free diet (GFD) for one year.
  • - Factors like being female, having a lower body mass index (BMI), experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding, and having low ferritin levels were associated with persistent anemia, suggesting that some cases may stem from iron loss rather than malabsorption.

Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) remains the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths worldwide. Typically, bleeding is controlled by timely obstetric measures in parallel with resuscitation and treatment of coagulopathy. Early recognition of abnormal coagulation is crucial and haemostatic support should be considered simultaneously with other strategies as coagulopathies contribute to the progression to massive haemorrhage.
