(1) Background: To assess the relationship between serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) values and disease severity in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and to examine which of these serum biomarkers better indicates disease severity. (2) Methods: Our pilot study included 20 patients with CSU who filled out questionnaires concerning disease severity and quality of life (the Urticaria Activity Score summed over 7 days [UAS7], the once-daily Urticaria Activity Score [UAS], the Urticaria Control Test [UCT], and the Dermatology Life Quality Index [DLQI]). Blood samples were taken to measure IL-6, ESR and CRP.

Background: An association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and insulin resistance in obese adolescents, especially in those with various obesity categories, has not been systematically studied. There is a lack of knowledge about the effects of CRF on insulin resistance in severely obese adolescents, despite their continuous rise.

Aim: To investigate the association between CRF and insulin resistance in obese adolescents, with special emphasis on severely obese adolescents.

Methods: We searched Embase, Medline (Ovid) and Web of Science (Core Collection) and included only primary research that reported on GxE on the risk of the three most common types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma.

Biomechanical analysis of a novel screw system with a variable locking angle in mandible angle fractures.

Locking plates nowadays represent an important treatment in bone trauma and bone healing due to its strong biomechanical properties. The purpose of this study was to both computationally and experimentally validate a novel screw locking system by comparing it to another locking system from state-of-the-art and to apply it in an environment of a fractured mandible. FEA was used to test both systems prior to experimental tests.

SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF A PENETRATING BRAIN WOUND AND ASSOCIATED PERFORATING OCULAR INJURY CAUSED BY A LOW-VELOCITY SHARP METALLIC OBJECT: A CASE REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW.

Penetrating traumatic brain injury accompanied by perforating ocular injury caused by low-velocity foreign bodies is a life-threatening condition, a surgical emergency and a major challenge in surgical practice, representing a severe subtype of non-missile traumatic brain injury, which is a relatively rare pathology among civilians. Optimal management of such an injury remains controversial, requiring full understanding of its pathophysiology and a multidisciplinary expert approach. Herein, we report a case of penetrating brain and associated perforating eye injury and discuss relevant literature providing further insight into this demanding complex multi-organ injury.

Anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease is an acute and life-threatening systemic autoimmune disorder. The coexistence of circulating anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) and anti-GBM disease, the so-called double-positive disease (DPD), is exceptionally rare. We report a unique case of DPD manifesting as pulmonary-renal syndrome (PRS) in a 46-year-old woman who first presented with clinical and radiological suspicion of pneumonia.

IDIOPHATIC ASYNCHRONOUS BILATERAL SEGMENTAL TESTICULAR INFARCTION AND ANTICOAGULANT THERAPY: A CASE REPORT.

We present an unusual case of sudden onset of pain in the left testis in a patient with a previous medical history of right orchiectomy due to hemorrhagic infarction. A partial orchiectomy was performed with complete removal of the lesion and reconstruction of the testicular parenchyma. Histopathological assessment confirmed segmental testicular infarction without the presence of malignancy.

CHANGES IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME BETWEEN THE FIRST AND THIRD DECADES OF THE 21 CENTURY.

Sedentary lifestyle and obesity increase the risk of coronary disease (CAD). The aims of this prospective study were to estimate the trends in physical activity (PA) level, accuracy of the Baecke's/LRC-PA questionnaires, and trends in obesity parameters (body mass index-BMI/waist-to-hip ratio-WHR) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the last two decades. We grouped 209 patients with ACS (UAP-unstable angina, STEMI-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, NSTEMI-non STEMI) by year of admission (Group 2002-05/Group 2017) and compared them by the levels of PA (Baecke's/LRC-PA questionnaires) and obesity parameters (BMI, WHR).
