Background: As for squamous (Sq)-NSCLC, Checkmate-017 trial showed a significant overall survival (OS) improvement in favor of Nivolumab (Nivo) over Docetaxel in 2nd-line. We hypothesized that anticipating Nivo use, as early switch maintenance after 1st-line chemotherapy (CHT), might have improved survival as compared to delayed 2nd-line treatment.
Methods: EDEN was an open-label, 2-arm, phase III study which randomized (1:1) stage IIIB/IV Sq-NSCLC pts non-progressive after 1st-line platinum-based CHT, to receive early Nivo as switch maintenance (Arm A) or standard best supportive care followed by 2nd-line Nivo at disease progression (Arm B).

: Pulmonary arterial elastance (Ea) is a helpful parameter to predict the risk of acute postoperative right ventricular failure (RVF) after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. A new method for calculating Ea, obtained by the ratio between transpulmonary gradient and stroke volume (Ea), has been proposed as a more accurate measure than the Ea obtained as the ratio between pulmonary artery systolic pressure and stroke volume (Ea). However, the role of Ea in predicting acute RVF post-LVAD implantation remains unclear.

Aims: The most frequent consequence of elevated uric acid (UA) levels is the development of gout and urate kidney disease. Besides these effects, several studies have investigated the association between hyperuricemia and cardiovascular (CV) disease. High serum UA has been identified as an important determinant of all-cause and CV mortality and CV events (acute and chronic coronary syndrome, stroke and peripheral artery disease).

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, demyelinating, neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. Understanding patient and healthcare professional (HCP) preferences for MS treatments is crucial for optimizing therapeutic strategies and improving adherence and outcomes. This Discrete-Choice Experiment (DCE) assesses preferences for various MS treatment attributes among Italian patients and HCPs.

Introduction: As detailed in the first part of this review, post-infectious vasculitides are a wide and complex category, including several clinical, microbiological and neuroradiological patterns. In order to raise the suspicion for diagnosis, the knowledge of two different neuroradiological issues is needed, i.e.

Introduction: The differential diagnosis of Primary Central Nervous System Angiitis (PACNS) is complex and includes several inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions. Among the first ones, post-infectious CNS vasculitides represent a relevant topic and they are often underdiagnosed.
Aims: The main aim of this review is to summarize the clinical and neuroimaging features of post-infectious vasculitides, highlighting the diagnostic clues and the need to carefully consider them in the differential diagnosis of PACNS.

Background: The aim of our retrospective study was to describe the immunophenotypic characteristics of neuroendocrine breast neoplasm (BNEN), a peculiar and rare type of breast carcinoma.
Methods: Pathological data from 51 patients affected by BNEN were retrospectively evaluated, and 44 patients were considered eligible (7 patients with incomplete data were excluded). The patients were followed in six different Italian hospitals between 2009 and 2019.

Volume reduction is a disease-modifying treatment that aims to reshape the diseased lung towards a more normal total lung capacity by removing severely damaged and overinflated lung parenchyma. It is an effective therapeutic strategy in well-selected patients, resulting in improvements in exercise tolerance, lung function, quality of life and survival. The most widespread strategies for volume reduction are either video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery or bronchoscopic lung volume reduction.

Background And Objectives: The risk profiles, procedural characteristics, and clinical outcomes for women undergoing bifurcation percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are not well defined compared to those in men.
Methods: COronary BIfurcation Stenting III (COBIS III) is a multicenter, real-world registry of 2,648 patients with bifurcation lesions treated with second-generation drug-eluting stents. We compared the angiographic and procedural characteristics and clinical outcomes based on sex.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by growing incidence and prevalence around the world in the last few decades. The range of available existing treatment and strategies for its management is being implemented. Given the introduction of newly developed molecules and the lack of specific guidelines, drug positioning may represent a tough clinical challenge.

(1) Background: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder caused by the accumulation of an altered prion protein, which usually leads to death within one year after clinical onset. CJD patients usually present with rapid cognitive impairment associated with declines in cerebellar, motor, visual, behavioral, and swallowing functions. Moreover, CJD patients lose their ability to eat and take medications orally very early on in treatment; nevertheless, there are no specific nutritional guidelines for this disease shared worldwide.

Cancers of the nose, and especially the nose vestibule, represent a significant challenge for clinicians due to their rarity, the intricate nature of surrounding vital structures, the nonspecific early symptoms, and the etiological factors that are not completely understood. Emerging research suggests that alterations in the nasal microbiome, also known as microbial dysbiosis, may contribute to the pathogenesis of those malignancies through mechanisms involving chronic inflammation, immune modulation, and cellular changes. The aims of this paper are to review the current literature covering the nasal microbiome's role in carcinogenesis, particularly in the context of squamous cell carcinoma, and to explore how microbial dysbiosis might foster a pro-tumorigenic environment.

Background: The 2 × 2 PEACE-1 study showed that combining androgen-deprivation therapy with docetaxel and abiraterone improved overall and radiographic progression-free survival in patients with de novo metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer. We aimed to examine the efficacy and safety of adding radiotherapy in this population.
Methods: We conducted an open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial with a 2 × 2 factorial design (PEACE-1) at 77 hospitals across Europe.

Background: High microsatellite instability (MSI) represents a small subgroup of gastric cancer (GC) with favorable prognostic and predictive significance. This study aimed to investigate locoregional lymph node (LN) involvement, overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and the interplay between molecular subtypes and histologic profiles regarding survival outcomes in MSI GC vs microsatellite stability (MSS) GC.
Methods: This study included 72 patients with GC who underwent surgery with or without chemotherapy from 2017 to 2023.

Neuroendoscopy complications can be divided into three categories: vascular, neural, and technical failures. Moreover, cognitive sequelae can be considered as delayed complications of neuroendoscopic surgery. The purpose of this manuscript is to report the experiences published in the current literature in order to identify the causes of complications in neuroendoscopy and methods to manage and avoid them.

Background Tuberculum sellae meningiomas (TSM) tend to compress the optic apparatus and an ideal surgical route, whether transcranial or endonasal, is still debated. Another issue is if the minimally invasive supraorbital (SO) approach offers the same results compared to the more invasive craniotomy. Aiming to guide approach selection, preoperative grading systems have been described.

Cardiovascular complications are common in patients with severe liver disease and are an important cause of peri-operative and post-transplant morbidity and mortality. Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM), often found in advanced liver disease, is characterized by diastolic dysfunction, systolic dysfunction, and electrophysiological abnormalities. While CCM may not cause symptoms at rest, it can become evident during stressful activities, such as surgery.
