Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer and the third leading cause of death worldwide. The management of HCC is complex, with surgical treatment providing long-term survival in eligible patients. This study aims to present the experience of aggressive surgical management of HCC in Greece.

Serum Concentration of Selected Angiogenesis-Related Molecules Differs among Molecular Subtypes, Body Mass Index and Menopausal Status in Breast Cancer Patients.

Background: Angiogenesis is a hallmark of breast cancer (BC) and is mediated by the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling axis. It is regulated by different proangiogenic factors, including platelet-derived growth factor-CC (PDGF-CC) and heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF), as well as co-receptors, such as neuropilin-1, which could have prognostic implications in BC patients.

Metaplastic Matrix-Producing Carcinoma and Apocrine Lobular Carcinoma In Situ Associated with Microglandular Adenosis: A Unique Case Report.

Microglandular adenosis is a non-lobulocentric haphazard proliferation of small round glands composed of a single layer of flat to cuboidal epithelial cells. The glandular structures lack a myoepithelial layer; however, they are surrounded by a basement membrane. Its clinical course is benign, when it is not associated with invasive carcinoma.

Background: Poromas, and their malignant counterparts, porocarcinomas, harbor recurrent translocations involving YAP1-MAML2, YAP1-NUTM1, and infrequently WWTR1-NUTM1; YAP1-NUTM1 being the most common in porocarcinomas. NUT immunohistochemistry (IHC) can be used to identify NUTM1-translocated tumors. Alveolar bone response distal to applied orthodontic forces in ovariectomized rats.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the application of orthodontic tooth forces on the alveolar bone distal to the loaded teeth, in ovariectomized female rats.

Methods: Twenty-four eight-month-old Wistar rats were divided into one group ovariectomized at the age of six months and one control. An orthodontic appliance delivering a mesial traction force of 60 gr* was placed on the right maxillary 1 molar of all animals for 14 days.

Objectives: The International Haemovigilance Network's (IHN) ISTARE database collects surveillance data on all adverse reactions (AR) associated with transfusion of blood and blood components, facilitating the sharing of best practice and benchmarking for improving blood safety and quality. Up to 2012, no publications discussed certain rare AR. The aim of this study is to examine ISTARE data on AR from 2012 to 2016, focusing on hypotensive reactions, post-transfusion purpura (PTP), transfusion-associated graft versus host disease (TA-GvHD), hyperkalemia and hypocalcemia.

Characterizing Kinetics and Avidity of SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Responses in COVID-19 Greek Patients.

In-depth understanding of the immune response provoked by SARS-CoV-2 infection is necessary, as there is a great risk of reinfection and a difficulty in achieving herd immunity due to a decline in both antibody concentration and avidity. Avidity testing, however, could overcome variability in the immune response associated with sex or clinical symptoms, and thus differentiate between recent and past infections. In this context, here, we analyzed SARS-CoV-2 antibody kinetics and avidity in Greek hospitalized (26%) and non-hospitalized (74%) COVID-19 patients (N = 71) in the course of up to 15 months after their infection to improve the accuracy of the serological diagnosis in dating the onset of the infection.

Background: Current treatment recommendations for high grade non-metastatic osteosarcoma include perioperative chemotherapy and surgery. Management of Coagulopathy in Bleeding Patients.

Early recognition of coagulopathy is necessary for its prompt correction and successful management. Novel approaches, such as point-of-care testing (POC) and administration of coagulation factor concentrates (CFCs), aim to tailor the haemostatic therapy to each patient and thus reduce the risks of over- or under-transfusion. The top 30 most popular videos, by number of views, were identified and scored on the 6-point scale by three experienced consultants.

Brain Metastases from Adult Sarcomas: A Retrospective Cohort Study from the Hellenic Group of Sarcomas and Rare Cancers (HGSRC).

MTOR/4EBP1 signaling and MMR status in colorectal cancer: New correlations and arising perspectives.

This is the first study aiming to investigate mTOR signaling and its relation to mismatch repair status (MMR status) in colorectal cancer (CRC). MMR status and the phosphorylated proteins, pmTOR and p4EBP1, have been immunohistochemically analyzed in 108 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded CRC specimens. The correlations between them and with clinicopathological data, MAPK pathway (KRAS, NRAS, BRAF) as well as their impact on patients' overall survival have been statistically analyzed.
