Total hip arthroplasty is one of the most successful orthopedic surgeries; nevertheless, many of these surgeries are the causes of failure, and among them, periprosthetic fractures are one of the major causes of revision. Our study focuses on periprosthetic hip fractures with two different stem designs. The aim of the study was to analyze the obtained results, focusing on the features of periprosthetic stem fractures observed.

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is currently, worldwide, the second most common cause of human fatalities every year. Alcohol use disorders (AUDs) lead to 80% of hepatotoxic deaths, and about 40% of cases of cirrhosis are alcohol-related. An acceptable daily intake (ADI) of ethanol is hard to establish and studies somewhat controversially recommend a variety of dosages of ADI, whilst others regard any intake as dangerous.

Treatment options for secondary progressive MS (SPMS) are limited, especially considering that the new drugs recently approved are licensed for actively relapsing patients. We aimed to compare the disability progression in a real-world cohort of SPMS patients treated with natalizumab (NTZ) or interferon beta-1b (IFNb-1b). This multicenter retrospective enrolled patients with a diagnosis of SPMS according to 2014 Lublin criteria, who received NTZ or IFNb-1b for at least 48 months between the 1st June 2012 and the 15th May 2018 at 33 Italian MS centers contributing to the Italian MS Registry NTZ or IFNb-1b.

Aims: The pathophysiology of orthostatic hypotension (OH), a common clinical condition, associated with adverse outcomes, is incompletely understood. We examined the relationship between OH and circulating endostatin, an endogenous angiogenesis inhibitor with antitumour effects proposed to be involved in blood pressure (BP) regulation.
Methods And Results: We compared endostatin levels in 146 patients with OH and 150 controls.

Introduction: Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IOM) is widely used in neurosurgery but specific guidelines are lacking. Therefore, we can assume differences in IOM application between Neurosurgical centers.
Research Question: The section of Functional Neurosurgery of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery realized a survey aiming to obtain general data on the current practice of IOM in Italy.

The application of preoperative noninvasive respiratory support (NRS) has been expanding with increasing recognition of its potential role in this setting as a physiological optimization for patients with a high risk of developing atelectasis and postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC). The increased availability of high-performance anesthesia ventilator machines providing an easy way for NRS support in patients with reduced lung function should not be under-evaluated. This support can reduce hypoxia, restore lung volumes and theoretically reduce atelectasis formation after general anesthesia.

Purpose: In a relatively large cohort of thalassemia intermedia (TI) patients, we systematically investigated myocardial iron overload (MIO), function, and replacement fibrosis using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), we assessed the clinical determinants of global heart T2* values, and we explored the association between multiparametric CMR findings and cardiac complications.
Materials And Methods: We considered 254 beta-TI patients (43.14 ± 13.

The application of transthoracic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to the study of peripheral lung lesions is still a topic of debate. The main objective of this review was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CEUS in the diagnosis of malignant subpleural pulmonary consolidations and, therefore, differentiate them from benign ones. Papers published before December 2023 were detected through a search of PubMed, Cochrane library, and Embase.

Nephrology is an ever-evolving field of medicine. The importance of such a discipline is related to the high clinical impact of kidney disease. In fact, abnormalities of kidney function and/or structure are common in the general population, reaching an overall prevalence of about 10%.

Introduction: Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAr) antibody encephalitis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by synaptic NMDAr current disruption and receptor hypofunction, often affecting women during pregnancy. Clinical manifestations associated with anti-NMDAr encephalitis can occur both in the mother and fetus.
Methods: We generated a systematic search of the literature to identify epidemiological, clinical, and serological data related to pregnant women with anti-NMDAr encephalitis and their children, analyzing the fetal outcomes.

Background: Despite the use of two crossed Perclose ProGlide™ (Abbott Vascular Devices) is the most widespread technique to close the main arterial access in transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TF-TAVI), the safest and most effective strategy still remains much debated.
Aims: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the performance of a single Perclose ProGlide suture-mediated closure device to obtain femoral hemostasis after sheathless implantation of self-expanding transcatheter heart valves through their 14 F-equivalent fix delivery systems.
Methods: This prospective observational study included 439 patients undergoing TF-TAVI at the "Montevergine" Clinic of Mercogliano, Italy.

One of the principles of managing trauma patients is that of their continuous re-evaluation over the hours and days. Even if the execution of the computed tomography method is classically recommended, especially in the most serious cases and in polytraumas with major dynamics, the clinician can use or request an ultrasound examination, especially in subsequent re-evaluations. Here we report a clinical case demonstrating how an ultrasound re-evaluation after the acute event can lead to a correct diagnosis of a rare complication of thoracic trauma.

Obesity and overweight are common and complex conditions influenced by multiple genetic and environmental factors. Several genetic variants located in the genes involved in clock systems and fat taste perception can affect metabolic health. In particular, the polymorphisms in and genes were reported to be significantly related to cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, sleep reduction, and evening preference.

Background: The primary objective of this study was to assess the adequacy of analgesic care in radiotherapy (RT) patients, with a secondary objective to identify predictive variables associated with pain management adequacy using a modern statistical approach, integrating the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) algorithm and the Classification and Regression Tree (CART) analysis.
Methods: This observational, multicenter cohort study involved 1387 patients reporting pain or taking analgesic drugs from 13 RT departments in Italy. The Pain Management Index (PMI) served as the measure for pain control adequacy, with a PMI score < 0 indicating suboptimal management.

Padel is a racket sport, combining high-frequency and low-intensity athletic gestures, that has been gaining growing scientific interest in recent years. Musculoskeletal injuries are very common among padel players with an incidence rate of 3 per 1000 h of training and 8 per 1000 matches. To the best of our knowledge, a comprehensive collection describing the most common sonographic findings in padel players with musculoskeletal injuries is lacking in the pertinent literature.

Background: Among prostate cancer (PCa) treatment options, mini-invasive surgical approaches have gained a wide diffusion in the last decades. The aim of this study was to present oncological, functional, and quality of life data after 10 years of follow-up of a prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) (ISRCTN11552140) comparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) versus laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) for the treatment of PCa.
Methods: Patients with localized PCa were randomized to undergo LRP or RARP between January 2010 and January 2011.
