The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a widely used diagnostic test, influenced by all physiological and pathological conditions that can bias blood rheology by interfering factors. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the CUBE 30 touch ESR analyzer in samples with preanalytical variables, as lipemia, hemolysis, and icterus or in presence of fibrinogen., Moreover we focused to define the maximum time limits to ensure a reliable ESR measure.

Background: With the shift towards personalized medicine, understanding the impact of robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) is essential for evaluating its effectiveness and patient satisfaction. The QUAROB (Quality-assessment-of-ROBotic-orthopedic-surgery) study aims at assessing the impact of robotic surgery on quality of care and joint functionality at 6 months post-surgery among patients undergoing robotic-assisted TKA.
Methods: This observational, prospective cohort study included patients from Ravenna Hospital, Italy, who underwent elective robotic TKA (2022-2023), and a historical cohort who underwent traditional TKA (2019).

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has emerged as an effective and safe treatment for patients with symptomatic aortic stenosis. The indication to TAVI should be agreed upon by a Heart Team, and the procedure should be performed in centers with on-site cardiac surgery. However, TAVI complications requiring emergent cardiac surgery (ECS) have become very rare.

Background: Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory enteropathy that has been associated to obstetric and gynecological disorders. However, it is still not adequately tested by gynecologists due to the misconception that it is solely a gastrointestinal disease. This underestimation requires the development of targeted interventions.

Purpose: To describe two patients affected by optic disk pit-maculopathy ODP-M surgically treated with pars-plana vitrectomy (PPV) and the apposition of a human Amniotic Membrane (hAM) patch.
Methods: Patients underwent a PPV with the apposition of a hAM patch to cover the ODP. In case 1, a 2 surgery was necessary to push the hAM patch inside the pit, whereas in case 2 the patch was pulled inside the pit following the pressure gradient when infusion was turned on.

Objective: Atrial cardiomyopathy is closely associated with atrial fibrillation (AF), and some patients exhibit no dysfunction at rest but demonstrate evident changes in left atrial (LA) function and LA volume during exercise. This study aimed to identify distinguishing signs during exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) among patients in sinus rhythm (SR), with and without history of paroxysmal/persistent AF (PAF).
Methods: A prospective cohort of 1055 patients in SR was enrolled across 12 centers.

Following viral infection, antigen-restricted T lymphocytes are activated and recognize infected cells to eliminate them. A subset of T cells differentiates into memory lymphocytes able to counteract viral rechallenge in a faster and enhanced way. SARS-CoV-2 can escape immune responses leading to a poor clinical outcome.

Intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis, considered able to prevent streptococcal transmission from mother to newborn and its severe negative consequences, leads to microbiota dysbiosis, described as having a negative impact on well-being in both elements of the dyad. L3 is a probiotic strain capable of exerting strong antagonistic activity against most streptococci, including , due to the production of bacteriocins (known as enterocins A and B). A proprietary probiotic mixture containing the strain L3 demonstrated, in 2016, a significant reduction in episodes of PROM in pregnant women, with a less-than-expected effect on the vaginal-rectal presence of the pathogen .

Many food allergens not actually included in the European priority list of allergenic foods have the potential to cause severe allergic reactions and could escape correct identification and behave as "hidden allergens". Moreover, the adoption in recent years of novel diets based on plant products and new sustainable foods or the use of specific food additives have contributed to the onset of new emerging allergens of public health importance. The knowledge of hidden allergens is important both for physicians and for patients to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of food allergies, in order to decrease eventual improper diagnosis of idiopathic anaphylaxis.
