We conducted a multicenter and retrospective study to describe the use of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) to treat post-stroke spasticity (PSS). Data were extracted from free-text in electronic health records (EHRs) in five Spanish hospitals. We included adults diagnosed with PSS between January 2015 and December 2019, stratified into BoNT-A-treated and untreated groups.

Lung cancer surgery with curative intent has significantly developed over recent years, mainly focusing on minimally invasive approaches that do not compromise medical efficiency and ensure a decreased burden on the patient. It is directly linked with an efficient multidisciplinary team that will perform appropriate pre-operative assessment. Caution is required in complex patients with several comorbidities to ensure a meaningful and informed thoracic surgery referral leading to optimal patient outcomes.

Background: Despite advances in lung cancer treatment and the subsequent improvement in oncological outcomes, the optimal frequency of radiological follow-up remains unclear. Current recommendations lack consensus and do not consider individual patient characteristics and tumor factors. This study aimed to examine the impact of radiological follow-up frequency on oncological outcomes following lung cancer resection.

The objective of this paper was to determine how different types of posterior staphyloma (PS) may affect the appearance and degree of myopic maculopathy. A cross-sectional study was conducted, in which 467 eyes from 246 highly myopic patients [axial length (AL) ≥ 26 mm] were studied. A complete ophthalmic exploration was carried out on all patients, including imaging tests.

Plocabulin (Plo) induces depolymerization of tubulin fibers with disorganization and fragmentation of the microtubule network leading to mitosis. Plo combined with gemcitabine (Gem) showed synergistic anti-tumor activity in preclinical studies. This phase I trial evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics (PK) and efficacy of Plo 10-min infusion plus Gem on Day 1 and 8 every 3-week in patients with advanced solid tumors.

Patients with Post-viral long hauler encompass lasting symptoms and comorbid complexities, often exacerbated in individuals with excessive body weight. The aim was to study gut microbiota in 130 patients with post-viral long hauler stratified by body mass index (BMI) and the relationship between inflammation and microbiota. Significant higher values were found for anthropometric variables and markers of glucose and dyslipidemia in individuals with higher BMI, as well as elevated levels of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, IL-6, uric acid, and D-dimer.

Patients with COVID-19 may develop a hypercoagulable state due to tissue and endothelial injury, produced by an unbalanced immune response. Therefore, an increased number of thromboembolic events has been reported in these patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in COVID-19 patients, their role in the development of thrombosis and their relationship with the severity of the disease.

While allograft rejection (AR) continues to threaten the success of cardiothoracic transplantation, lack of accurate and repeatable surveillance tools to diagnose AR is a major unmet need in the clinical management of cardiothoracic transplant recipients. Endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) and transbronchial biopsy (TBBx) have been the cornerstone of rejection monitoring since the field's incipience, but both suffer from significant limitations, including poor concordance of biopsy interpretation among pathologists. In recent years, novel molecular tools for AR monitoring have emerged and their performance characteristics have been evaluated in multiple studies.
