Assisted reproductive technology (ART) nowadays plays a major role in the treatment of infertility, with the most frequently used techniques being in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The objective of this study is to analyze pregnancies achieved using these ART techniques and their correlations with the prematurity and congenital malformations rates. This is an observational retrospective longitudinal study that includes 814 newborns conceived through an ART, namely IVF or ICSI.

Endometriosis is a benign chronic disease with a major impact on a woman's quality of life, mainly due to painful physical symptoms. Endometriosis is also a common cause of infertility caused by low ovarian reserve, distorted pelvic anatomy, and severe local inflammation with a direct negative impact on the quality of oocytes, embryos, and endometrium. We conducted a retrospective study between January 2019 and December 2023, including women with a history of surgery for endometriosis who underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) to achieve pregnancy.

Endometriosis is a common cause of infertility among reproductive-age women. A low ovarian reserve is associated with the presence of endometriotic cysts, and this is accentuated even more after surgery. Patients with a history of endometrioma are a special category of poor ovarian reserve requiring in vitro fertilization (IVF).

The use of assisted reproductive technology has increased in Romania in the past several years. Although most of these pregnancies are uncomplicated, in vitro fertilization is associated with an increased risk for adverse perinatal outcomes primarily caused by the increased risks of prematurity, gestational diabetes mellitus, and hypertensive disorders. Infertility can be caused by a variety of factors, including both male and female factors, and in some cases, the cause remains unknown.
