Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and its parameters such as fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (AD), radial diffusivity (RD) are increasingly being used to assess peripheral nerve integrity alongside nerve conduction studies. This pilot study aims to compare DTI values of lumbar spinal nerve roots before (T0) and after (T1) treatment with an interspinous process device (IPD). Seven patients (5 females, 2 males; mean age: 68) suffering from neurogenic claudication and lumbar spinal canal and foraminal stenosis were evaluated.

: Spinal cord lymphomas represent a minority of extranodal lymphomas and often pose diagnostic challenges by imitating primary spinal tumors or inflammatory/infective lesions. This paper presents a unique case of primary cauda equina lymphoma (PCEL) and conducts a comprehensive review to delineate the clinical and radiological characteristics of this rare entity. : A 74-year-old male presented with progressive paresthesia, motor weakness, and symptoms indicative of cauda equina syndrome.

It is known that exposure to heavy metal such as lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) has several adverse effects, particularly on the human reproductive system. Pb and Cd have been associated with infertility in both men and women. In pregnant women, they have been associated with spontaneous abortion, preterm birth, and impairment of the development of the fetus.

Background/aim: In the latest 2021 WHO classification of central nervous system tumours (CNS), gliomas that present isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutations are defined as diffuse low-grade gliomas (DLGGs). IDH mutations are commonly observed in this tumour type. The Extent of Resection (EOR) positively influence survival; however, it is still debated whether the predictive value of EOR is independent of the 1p/19q co-deletion.

Several theories have tried to elucidate the mechanisms behind the pathophysiology of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). However, this process is complex and remains mostly unknown. In this study we performed a retrospective randomised analysis comparing the cortical atrophy of 190 patients with unilateral CSDH, with 190 healthy controls.

Microplastics (MPs) are defined as plastic particles smaller than 5 mm. They have been found almost everywhere they have been searched for and recent discoveries have also demonstrated their presence in human placenta, blood, meconium, and breastmilk, but their location and toxicity to humans have not been reported to date. The aim of this study was twofold: 1.

There is increasing recognition of the role of lung ultrasound (LUS) to assess bronchiolitis severity in children. However, available studies are limited to small, single-center cohorts. We aimed to assess a qualitative and quantitative LUS protocol to evaluate the course of bronchiolitis at diagnosis and during follow-up.

To describe healthcare-associated infections in inpatient neuro-rehabilitation and their impact on functional outcome, a multicenter observational study with severe acquired brain injury (sABI) patients was performed. Patients were divided into infected (INF-group) or not infected (noINF-group) and assessed at admission and discharge, by means of the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), the Rancho Los Amigos Levels of Cognitive Functioning Scale (LCF), the Disability Rating Scale (DRS), and the modified Barthel Index (mBI). One hundred-nineteen patients were included in the INF-group, and 109 in the noINF-group.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to check the risk factors for subjects with motor conduction velocity (MCV) reduction of the ulnar nerve across the elbow without symptoms/signs of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) using a database of a previous multicenter case-control study on UNE patients.
Methods: From the previous database, we extracted all asymptomatic UNE (A-UNE) and matched for age and sex with a control and UNE groups with a ratio of 1:2. Anthropometric factors were measured and all participants filled in a questionnaire on demographic, lifestyle factors, and medical history.

Background: Two-dimensional volumetric exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) provides an integrated view of left ventricular (LV) preload reserve through end-diastolic volume (EDV) and LV contractile reserve (LVCR) through end-systolic volume (ESV) changes.
Purpose: To assess the dependence of cardiac reserve upon LVCR, EDV, and heart rate (HR) during ESE.
Methods: We prospectively performed semi-supine bicycle or treadmill ESE in 1344 patients (age 59.

Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and microbial colonization are a worldwide serious threat for human health. Neurological patients with infections who undergo rehabilitation have a significantly poor recovery. The effect of microbial colonization on the functional outcome in severe acquired brain injury (sABI) subjects is still unclear.

We performed a prospective multicenter case-control study to explore the association between ulnar neuropathy at elbow (UNE) and body and elbow anthropometric measures, demographic and lifestyle factors, and comorbidities. Cases and controls were consecutively enrolled among subjects admitted to four electromyography labs. UNE diagnosis was made on clinical and neurographic findings.

Background: Stroke volume response during stress is a major determinant of functional status in heart failure and can be measured by two-dimensional (2-D) volumetric stress echocardiography (SE). The present study hypothesis is that SE may identify mechanisms underlying the change in stroke volume by measuring preload reserve through end-diastolic volume (EDV) and left ventricular contractile reserve (LVCR) with systolic blood pressure and end-systolic volume (ESV).
Methods: We enrolled 4735 patients (age 63.

Protein sources used as supplements of IVF culture media are known to have several implications for the function and stability of embryo culture environment. In fact, they i) transport biologically active molecules ii) chelate heavy metals, iii) regulate media pH, iii) scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and iv) attenuate osmotic stress to which cells are exposed in sub-optimal culture conditions. Instead, their specific relevance to the formulation of cryopreservation solutions used for gamete and embryo cryopreservation remains uncertain.

There are no studies on elbow anthropometry in ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE). We aimed to test the interrater agreement of external elbow measurements with caliper, the matching of external width of cubital groove (WCG) measures with those obtained through conventional radiography (XR) and ultrasonography (US). The final aim was to evaluate the differences of anthropometric elbow and body measures between UNE cases and controls with multicenter prospective study.

Background: The cornerstone of the treatment of patients affected by stable angina is based on drugs administration classified as first (beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, short acting nitrates) or second line treatment (long-acting nitrates, ivabradine, nicorandil, ranolazine and trimetazidine). However, few data on comparison between different classes of drugs justify that one class of drugs is superior to another.
Methods: We performed a systematic review of the literature following PRISMA guidelines.

Chronic stable angina is the most prevalent symptom of ischaemic heart disease and its management is a priority. Current guidelines recommend pharmacological therapy with drugs classified as being first line (beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, short acting nitrates) or second line (long-acting nitrates, ivabradine, nicorandil, ranolazine, and trimetazidine). Second line drugs are indicated for patients who have contraindications to first line agents, do not tolerate them or remain symptomatic.
