Fix low dose venetoclax-azacitidine treatment of unfit acute myeloid leukemia patients.

The prognosis of elderly AML patients had not even been improved by using hypomethylating agents; however, synergistic effect of combining azacitidin with venetoclax had resulted in a remarkable therapeutic advance. Our goal was to study the latter treatment with a new dosing regimen in a retrospective/observational study. In our department, we analyzed the data of AML patients who were unfit for curative high-dose treatment and accepted the medication with a fixed-dose of azacitidin and venetoclax combination (AZA-VEN, 100 mg sc for 7 days-100 mg per os continuously).

OnkoNetwork is a patient navigation program established in the Moritz Kaposi General Hospital to improve the timeliness and completeness of cancer investigations and treatment. The H2020 SELFIE consortium selected OnkoNetwork as a promising integrated care initiative in Hungary and conducted a multicriteria decision analysis based on health, patient experience, and cost outcomes. In this paper, a more detailed analysis of clinical impacts is provided in the largest subgroup, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Acalabrutinib and its use in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitors have changed the treatment landscape for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma dramatically. In 2019, acalabrutinib was approved by the US FDA for the treatment of treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory CLL and MCL. Acalabrutinib monotherapy was found to be effective and safe in CLL patients.

Significance of preoperative blood tests in the prognosis of colorectal cancer: A prospective, multicenter study from Hungary.

Background: The focus of this study was to analyze the prognostic value of different combinations of inflammatory and coagulation factors using preoperative blood and to appraise the clinical importance of these biomarkers in colorectal cancer patients.

Methods: A prospective, multicenter study included patients undergoing radical colorectal surgery in three county hospitals. Inflammatory and coagulation markers were analyzed preoperatively.

Epithelioid hemangioma of liver-The first reported case.

Epithelioid hemangioma, otherwise known as angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia, is a rare benign vasoproliferative disease with an unknown etiology. We report the case of a 42-year-old man with routine bloods test showing mildly elevated serum bilirubin level. CT scan revealed a lesion in the left liver lobe not typical of FNH.

How successful is liver resection for colorectal cancer liver metastases in patients over 75 years old?

Backgrounds/aims: As populations age, an increased incidence of colorectal cancer will generate an increase in colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM). In order to guide treatment decisions, this study aimed to identify the contemporary complication rates of elderly patients undergoing liver resection for CRLM in a, centralised, UK centre.

Methods: All patients undergoing operative procedures for CRLM between January 2013 and January 2019 were included.

Creating a cross-sectional, CT and MR atlas of the Pannon minipig.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to create a detailed cross-sectional anatomical reference atlas of the Pannon minipig by correlating good resolution CT and MR images with high quality cross-sectional anatomical images. According to the authors knowledge, no detailed anatomical atlas is available for the minipig.

Material And Method: An adult female minipig was utilized for this purpose.

Benefits Of Timely Care In Pancreatic Cancer: A Systematic Review To Navigate Through The Contradictory Evidence.

The evidence base of policies that improve the timeliness of cancer care is under ongoing debate. Pancreatic cancer is frequently diagnosed in a stage when curative therapy is not feasible; hence, it is an important target for timelier healthcare interventions. The objectives of our research were to identify all clinical studies on pancreatic cancer care delays via a systematic literature review, to assess the study methodologies for possible biases, to conclude on the available evidence, and to formulate research recommendations on evidence gaps.

Partial ALPPS with a longer wait between procedures is safe and yields adequate future liver remnant hypertrophy.

Backgrounds/aims: Associating Liver Partition and Portal Vein Ligation for Staged Hepatectomy (ALPPS) has generated controversy due to high morbidity and mortality. We present our series of patients with 30-40% parenchymal transection and minimal hilar dissection.

Methods: Patients who had partial ALPPS between April 2015 and April 2016 were included.

Background: OnkoNetwork is a recently established integrated care model with a personalized pathway system to manage patients with first suspect of a solid tumour in secondary care, that evolved as a regional initiative in Hungary. The primary aim of OnkoNetwork is the improvement of clinical outcomes via timely access to quality assured and defragmented healthcare services. The Horizon 2020 funded SELFIE project has selected OnkoNetwork for in-depth qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

Protective Effect of PACAP on Ischemia/Reperfusion-Induced Kidney Injury of Male and Female Rats: Gender Differences.

Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a neuropeptide that exerts general cytoprotective effects, including protection in different kidney disorders. The aim of our study was to investigate the ischemia/reperfusion-induced kidney injury of male and female rats to confirm the protective effects of PACAP in the kidney and to reveal possible gender differences.Male and female Wistar rats underwent unilateral renal artery clamping followed by 24-h, 48-h, or 14-day reperfusion.

Extending knowledge of the clinical picture of Balkan adder (Vipera berus bosniensis) envenoming: The first photographically-documented neurotoxic case from South-Western Hungary.

We report a severe envenoming associated with minimal local symptoms following a Balkan adder (Vipera berus bosniensis) bite in South-Western Hungary. A 63-year-old male with a history of hypertension and sinus bradycardia (45/min) was bitten by a sub-adult specimen of V. b.

σ1-Receptor Agonism Protects against Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury.

Mechanisms of renal ischemia-reperfusion injury remain unresolved, and effective therapies are lacking. We previously showed that dehydroepiandrosterone protects against renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in male rats. Here, we investigated the potential role of σ1-receptor activation in mediating this protection.

Characterization of Individuals Taking Part in Low Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) Screening Program.

Unlabelled: In the past years the participation rate in conventional voluntary x-ray lung screening has been around 22 % in Somogy County in Hungary. Due to the high morbidity and mortality rates of lung cancer, low participation rate of the high risk individuals on the screening is a primary question in Hungary. To obtain an effectively high level of participation in our ongoing low dose CT screening program, we had to emphasize the benefits of participation for the targeted individuals.

First result of differentiated communication--to smokers and non-smokers--in order to increase the voluntary participation rate in lung screening.

Background: Lung cancer is the most common fatal malignancy and also the primary cause of cancer mortality. Participation in lung screening is an important step in diagnosing patient in early stage and it can promise better outcomes. The aim of this preliminary study was to determinate the differences in the participation rate of smokers and non-smokers in lung cancer screening and to determine the communication strategies to increase the participation rate.
