Common complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) related ARDS and ventilation are barotrauma-induced pneumothorax, pneumatocele and/or empyema. We analysed indications and results of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in complicated COVID-19 patients. This is a retrospective single-institution study analysing a case series of patients treated by VATS for secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP), pneumatocele and empyema complicating COVID-19, not responding to drainage in Lodi Maggiore Hospital between February 2020 and May 2021.

Acute bowel ischemia is a severe disease often with a poor outcome. Early diagnosis can improve outcome, but atypical clinical manifestations and nonspecific laboratory and instrumental diagnostic findings may delay computed tomographic angiography (CTA). Portomesenteric venous gas (PVG), indirect sign of pneumatosis intestinalis, is considered a late finding with poor prognosis.

Background: The use of a strong opioid with intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) is recommended for postoperative pain, but its use is restricted due to technical problems. Other delivery systems, like sublingual PCA, with the sufentanil tablet system (SSTS) device, could overcome the safety concerns related to IV-PCA.

Methods: This prospective observational study evaluated the efficacy, safety and usability of SSTS for post-surgical analgesia in the real-life setting.

They usually present with intermittent menometrorrhagia in young patients in childbearing age with history of gynecological procedures on uterus. Traditional management is hysterectomy; endovascular embolization represents nowadays an alternative strategy for patients wishing to preserve fertility.

Matrix Gla protein (MGP) and bone Gla protein (BGP) are two vitamin K-dependent proteins (VKDPs) involved in the regulation of vascular calcification (VC). We carried out a secondary analysis of the VIKI study to evaluate associations between drug consumption and VKDP levels in 387 hemodialyzed patients. The VIKI study assessed the prevalence of vitamin K deficiency in hemodialysis patients.

Haemangiomas are benign vascular tumours relatively common in the head and neck district but very rare in the temporal bone. Depending on its clinical presentation, haemangioma can be mistaken for other vascular masses such as glomus tumour or other lesions of the middle ear. Unfortunately, clinical and radiological evaluation may be insufficient to make a pre-operative diagnosis and the diagnosis is often based upon intra-operative biopsy specimen findings.
