Introduction: Several infectious diseases can present nail manifestations, which may be useful for diagnosis and prognosis, and only a few reports have been made regarding monkeypox (mpox). The objective of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics of nail alterations in patients living with HIV coinfected with mpox.

Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional study included patients living with HIV/AIDS, coinfected with mpox.

Effectiveness of Direct Antiviral Agents in People with HCV-Monoinfection Compared to HCV/HIV Coinfection in a Real Life Setting.

Direct-acting antivirals (DAA) are effective in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, but there is little information about real-world effectiveness in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLH). Background: Accumulating evidence has proposed phase angle (PhA) as a marker for assessing cellular integrity and nutritional status in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients; the aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of PhA in assessing nutritional status in patients with UC, investigating its potential as a biomarker of disease activity.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in patients with UC and healthy controls. We determined PhA by electrical bioimpedance and categorized participants through bioelectrical impedance analysis.

Ectopic Papillary Thyroid Cancer: About a Case.

Cervical lymph nodes can indicate various inflammatory or cancerous conditions. Ectopic thyroid carcinoma, particularly papillary carcinoma, can be found in resected lymph nodes even without clinical thyroid abnormalities, known as hidden (incidental) metastasis. We present the case of a 42-year-old woman with a 5 cm thyroid nodule and associated symptoms.

Recently, we published that the monoclonal antibody (D12 mAb) recognizes gp63 of , and it is responsible for COX activity. This D12 mAb exhibited cross-reactivity with , , , and . COX activity assays performed in these parasites suggested the potential presence of such enzymatic activity.

Purpose: To determine the incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by non-invasive methods in people living with HIV (PLWH).

Methods: Prospective cohort, in PLWH naïve to antiretroviral therapy, starting bictegravir (BIC) or dolutegravir (DTG) at the Hospital de Infectología "La Raza", in Mexico City, from February 2021 to August 2023. We measured at baseline and 48 weeks triglycerides and glucose index (TyG), fatty liver index (FLI), hepatic steatosis index (HSI) and liver ultrasonography; relative risk (RR) for developing NAFLD was determined.

Preoperative Atelectasis in Patients with Obesity Undergoing Bariatric Surgery: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Pulmonary atelectasis is present even before surgery in patients with obesity. We aimed to estimate the prevalence and extension of preoperative atelectasis in patients with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery and to determine if variation in preoperative Spo2 values in the seated position at room air is explained by the extent of atelectasis coverage in the supine position.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study in a single center specialized in laparoscopic bariatric surgery.

Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTI) are associated with neuropsychiatric adverse events (NPAEs). The aim of this study was to evaluate improvements in NPAEs after switching an INSTI-based regimen to darunavir/cobicistat (DRV/c) or doravirine (DOR). : A prospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the reversibility of NPAEs via the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A and D) in patients who started antiretroviral therapy with dolutegravir (DTG) or bictegravir (BIC).

Epidemiology of Mpox Cases, and Tecovirimat and JYNNEOS Utilization, Alameda County, California, June-October 2022.

Context: The 2022 United States mpox outbreak disproportionately affected racial and ethnic minority gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men.

Program: We utilized surveillance data and vaccination registries to determine whether populations most impacted by mpox in Alameda County received JYNNEOS vaccines and tecovirimat (TPOXX) during June 1-October 31, 2022.

Implementation: Alameda County Public Health Department responded to the mpox epidemic through partnerships with local health care providers who serve communities disproportionately affected by mpox.

First family with Perry syndrome from Mexico.

Perry syndrome (PS) is a rare autosomal dominant disease characterized by parkinsonism, central hypoventilation, weight loss and depression and is caused by pathogenic mutations in the dynactin subunit 1 () gene (encoding p150 protein). To date, only two cases have been reported in Latin America, specifically in Colombia and Argentina. The present study, to the best of our knowledge, reports the first recorded Mexican family with PS.

Analyzing results of cervical sagittal parameters in patients operated with polyetheretherketone cages without plate.

Study Design: This was a retrospective longitudinal observational study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the results of cervical sagittal parameters on preoperative and postoperative lateral radiographs in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). ACDF is believed to change craniocervical parameters and thus cervical curvature using polyetheretherketone (PEEK) or titanium cages with or without self-locking as well as an anterior plate, the latter of which has not been shown to provide better clinical or radiological results.

Perioperative Use of Levosimendan in Hepatic Transplantation With Diastolic Heart Failure: A Case Report.

Levosimendan is a medication with a range of pharmacological effects, making it appropriate for use in several clinical settings, including advanced heart failure with pulmonary hypertension, cardiogenic shock, and acute heart failure. This case report details the perioperative management of a male in their 40s with a complex medical history, including primary hypoparathyroidism, cirrhosis, and severe pulmonary hypertension, who underwent urgent cadaveric donor liver transplantation. Information available on the perioperative use of levosimendan is still insufficient to be able to regulate behaviors that can guide its management on a regular basis.

The role of the osteoprotegerin/RANKL/RANK axis and osteopontin in acute coronary syndrome.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to ascertain the levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and osteopontin (OPN), alongside osteoprotegerin/RANKL ratio (ORR), and assess their association with the SYNTAX score and ascertain the potential of these molecules as predictive markers for risk, aiding in risk stratification. Eventually, they could potentially be employed even before angiography to gauge the severity of coronary lesions.
