Background: Obesity is accompanied by dysregulated inflammation, which can contribute to vasculometabolic complications including metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis. Recently, clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) has emerged as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to determine how CHIP is related to immune cell function, systemic inflammation, and vasculometabolic complications in obese individuals.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DES) represents the treatment of choice for the majority of patients with coronary artery disease. While currently available DES, in addition to physiological support, has failed to show the non-inferiority to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in terms of cumulative incidence of clinical events over the short-term follow-up. Studies have also shown that DES is associated with an increased risk of target vessel revascularization compared to CABG after long-term follow-up.

Despite all clinical progress recorded in the last decades, human breast cancer (HBC) remains a major challenge worldwide both in terms of its incidence and its management. Canine mammary tumors (CMTs) share similarities with HBC and represent an alternative model for HBC. The utility of the canine model in studying HBC relies on their common features, include spontaneous development, subtype classification, mutational profile, alterations in gene expression profile, and incidence/prevalence.

Background And Importance: In 2018, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) produced syncope guidelines that for the first-time incorporated Emergency Department (ED) management. However, very little is known about the characteristics and management of this patient group across Europe.
Objectives: To examine the prevalence, clinical presentation, assessment, investigation (ECG and laboratory testing), management and ESC and Canadian Syncope Risk Score (CSRS) categories of adult European ED patients presenting with transient loss of consciousness (TLOC, undifferentiated or suspected syncope).

Lung cancer, primarily non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), is distinguished by its high prevalence and marked mortality rates. Traditional therapeutic approaches, encompassing chemotherapy, radiation, and targeted therapies, frequently show limited efficacy due to acquired resistance and notable side effects. The objective of this review is to introduce a fresh perspective on the therapeutic strategies for lung cancer, emphasizing interventions targeting the epigenetic alterations often seen in this malignancy.

Straelensia cynotis is a trombidioid mite that causes painful, usually nonpruritic nodular dermatitis mainly in the dorsal region of dogs. This case report describes the first observation of feline straelensiosis in Europe with clinicopathological findings. Molecular characterisation of the parasite was performed and compared with mites collected from dogs.

The majority of present-day white-light emitting devices (WLEDs) are built upon the use of rare-earth elements, which have a short supply, are expensive and can become extremely toxic. Thus, in this work, we synthesized an eco-friendly, efficient and cheap white-light emitting material (WLEM) based on solid-state histidine-stabilized gold nanoclusters (His-AuNCs), obtained through the lyophilization of microwave-synthesized photoluminescent His-AuNCs. Their morphological and structural characterization was followed by thorough evaluation of their intrinsic solid-state photoluminescence properties steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy, at multiple excitation wavelengths.

Wolcott-Rallison syndrome is a rare cause of permanent neonatal diabetes mellitus caused by mutations in the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha kinase 3 gene (EIF2AK3). Individuals affected by this disorder have severe hyperglycemia, pancreatic failure, and bone abnormalities and are prone to severe and life-threatening episodes of liver failure. This report illustrates the case of a 2-month-old infant with extreme hyperglycemia and severe diabetic ketoacidosis.

Healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP) is a common nosocomial infection with high morbidity and mortality. Culture-based detection of the etiologic agent and drug susceptibility is time-consuming, potentially leading to the inadequate use of broad-spectrum empirical antibiotic regimens. The aim was to evaluate the diagnostic capabilities of rapid point-of-care multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays from the endotracheal aspirate of critically ill patients with HCAP.

Background: Chest pain represents a prevalent complaint in emergency departments (EDs), where the precise differentiation between acute coronary syndrome and alternative conditions assumes paramount significance. This pilot study aimed to assess the HEART score's implementation in West Balkan EDs.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on a prospective cohort comprising patients presenting with chest pain admitted to EDs in Sarajevo, Zenica, and Belgrade between July and December 2022.

Tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy is gaining attraction in advanced cancer therapeutics due to the ubiquity of kinases in cell survival and differentiation. Great progress was made in the past years in identifying tyrosine kinases that can function as valuable molecular targets and for the entrapment of their corresponding inhibitors in delivery compounds for triggered release. Herein we present a class of drug-delivery nanocompounds based on TKI Midostaurin-loaded gold nanoparticles that have the potential to be used as theranostic agents for the targeting of the FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) in acute myeloid leukemia.

Patients with calcified, fibrotic native coronary vessels with prior suboptimal stenting outcomes are at major risk of stent thrombosis and could face serious consequences if untreated. In cases of multiple layers of under-expanded stents, the risk is multiplied. If conventional balloon post-dilatation is unsuccessful after stent implantation without proper lesion preparation, few interventional options remain.

Introduction: The introduction of robotic-guided procedures in surgical techniques has brought an increase in the accuracy and control of resections. Surgery has evolved as a technique since the development of laparoscopy, which has added to the visualisation of the peritoneal cavity from a different perspective. Multi-armed robot associated with real-time intraoperative imaging devices brings important manoeuvrability and dexterity improvements in certain surgical fields.

Background: interleukin 23 (IL-23) is an important factor involved in the survival and proliferation of T helper 17 cells (Th17), known for their implication in multiple sclerosis (MS). By contrast, IL-27 regulates and modulates the function of T lymphocytes, in particular as a suppressor of Th17 differentiation. The aims of the study were i) to test the association of cytokines with the clinical and genetic characteristics in each of the multiple sclerosis groups (CIS - clinically isolated syndrome, RRMS - relapsing-remitting MS and SPMS - Secondary progressive MS) and ii) to evaluate the association between serum levels of IL-23 and IL-27 with (IL-27), (IL-27) and (IL-23) gene polymorphisms in RRMS patients.

This randomized, split-mouth, controlled clinical study assessed the additional clinical benefits of a local desiccant antimicrobial agent (HY) combined with subgingival mechanical instrumentation (SRP) vs. SRP alone in treating severe periodontitis. Patients with stages III and IV periodontitis received full-mouth periodontal examinations at baseline and after a three-month follow-up.

Background/aim: The association of frailty with heart failure (HF) is common in the elderly, and its presence is a poor prognostic factor; it increases the risk of falls, disability, hospitalization, and mortality. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the incidence of physical frailty in patients with HF and the role of physical exercise in improving physical performance.
Patients And Methods: A total of 141 patients with musculoskeletal pathology, aged over 65 years, who followed a specific physical training program were included.

Background And Aims: In the last years increasing scientific evidence drew attention on the potential effects of anesthetic drugs on postoperative outcome in cancer patients. Local anesthetics, especially lidocaine, have been intensively studied in relation with postoperative outcome in colorectal cancer patients. Our study objectives were to investigate the effects of perioperative intravenous lidocaine infusion on neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and short-term postoperative outcome.
