Incisional hernias represent a far more common complication after midline incisions than previously estimated. Patients with upper gastrointestinal tract malignancies represent a group of patients at increased risk for incisional hernia formation after undergoing major surgery. Our prospectively designed study included 50 patients who underwent onlay synthetic mesh augmentation of their midline closure along with closure using the small bites technique.

Herein, we report the simultaneous implantation of a leadless pacemaker (LP) and a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) in two patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, as well as their 2-year follow-up results, while explaining the preventive measures taken to steer around unwanted device interaction.

Cribriform Patterned Lesions in the Prostate Gland with Emphasis on Differential Diagnosis and Clinical Significance.

Cribriform glandular formations are characterized by a continuous proliferation of cells with intermingled lumina and can constitute a major or minor part of physiologic (normal central zone glands), benign (clear cell cribriform hyperplasia and basal cell hyperplasia), premalignant (high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia), borderline (atypical intraductal cribriform proliferation) or clearly malignant (intraductal, acinar, ductal and basal cell carcinoma) lesions. Each displays a different clinical course and variability in clinical management and prognosis. The aim of this review is to summarize the current knowledge regarding the morphological features, differential diagnosis, molecular profile and clinical significance of the cribriform-patterned entities of the prostate gland.

P-Wave Beat-to-Beat Analysis to Predict Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence after Catheter Ablation.

The identification of patients prone to atrial fibrillation (AF) relapse after catheter ablation is essential for better patient selection and risk stratification. The current prospective cohort study aims to validate a novel P-wave index based on beat-to-beat (B2B) P-wave morphological and wavelet analysis designed to detect patients with low burden AF as a predictor of AF recurrence within a year after successful catheter ablation. From a total of 138 consecutive patients scheduled for AF ablation, 12-lead ECG and 10 min vectorcardiogram (VCG) recordings were obtained.

Clinical heterogeneity in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease-associated hepatocellular carcinoma.

Introduction: The indisputable increase in nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) prevalence (25% of population) has consequently led to an increase in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and liver-related mortality worldwide. The characteristics of patients with HCC, secondary to NAFLD, are older age, large tumors due to late diagnosis, often without cirrhosis and high prevalence of the metabolic syndrome components, leading to an increased mortality rate. Although the mechanisms of disease remain partially obscure, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, apoptosis, iron overload, and excessive local and systemic inflammation are identified as culprits for hepatocarcinogenesis in the presence of NAFLD.

Synchronous Bilateral Carcinoma of the Ureters. Report of a Case and a Short Discussion of the Literature.

Background/aim: The strategy for treatment of bilateral simultaneous renal pelvic and/or ureteral tumors has not been established and is dependent on individual decision.

Case Report: We herein report the case of an elderly man who was examined for fatigue at the emergency department and subsequently diagnosed with bilateral ureteral cancer. The most common histologic type of ureteral cancer is urothelial (transitional epithelium) cancer and though it is rare, it can be synchronously present in the contralateral ureter.

Purpose Of Review: Excessive supraventricular ectopic activity (ESVEA), in the form of frequent premature atrial contractions (PACs) and runs of PACs, is commonly observed in clinical practice and is frequently considered to be benign. Yet, recent studies have demonstrated a link between ESVEA and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. The aim of this meta-analysis was to examine the association between ESVEA and the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF), stroke, and mortality.

Multiple synchronous squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck: A case report.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) of unknown primary represents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for treating physicians. Detection of the primary site requires appropriate diagnostic work up. During the past few years more cases of concurrent primaries are described posing significant therapeutic dilemmas.

Comparison of the Uptake of Screening Colonoscopy between Physicians and the General Population in Greece.

Aim: To evaluate the uptake of screening colonoscopy among physicians as compared to the general population.

Methods: Asymptomatic physicians, aged 45-67 years, at average risk for colorectal cancer (CRC), working in the participating National Health System hospitals were asked to complete a questionnaire regarding the uptake of screening colonoscopy. The results were compared to those in a background healthy population, aged 50-75 years, inhabitants of a Greek county, who were offered a free access to a screening colonoscopy program for CRC.

Methods: After 8 min of untreated cardiac arrest, the animals were resuscitated either with active compression-decompression (ACD) CPR plus a sham ITD (control group, n=8) or with ACD-CPR plus an active ITD (ITD group, n=8). Adrenaline was administered every 4 min and electrical defibrillation was attempted every 2 min until return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) or asystole.
