Background: To evaluate the incidence and risk factors for cystoid macular edema (CME) and epiretinal membrane (ERM) development after surgery for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

Methods: Retrospective observational cohort study involving 62 consecutive patients with primary RRD who underwent RRD repair with either scleral buckling (SB) or pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). SB was used in young phakic patients without posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), high myopic patients, and RRD associated with either anterior or inferior retinal tears.

Impact of Systematic Use of Intracardiac Ultrasound during Transseptal Catheterization in the Electrophysiology Laboratory.

Aims: To explore the impact of the use of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) in the ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias requiring transseptal catheterization (TSC), whilst analyzing the reduction in periprocedural complications and complications specifically related to TSC.

Methods: A retrospective multicenter study collecting data from consecutive atrial fibrillation (AF) and supraventricular ablation procedures that required TSC was performed in five Italian centers. Based on physician discretion, TSC was performed with or without ICE.

Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and its isoenzymes reflect bone metabolism: ALP increases the ratio of inorganic phosphate to pyrophosphate systemically and facilitates mineralization as well as reduces extracellular pyrophosphate concentration, an inhibitor of mineral formation. On the contrary, low ALP activity is associated with reduction of bone turnover. ALP includes four isoenzymes depending on the site of tissue expression: intestinal ALP, placental ALP, germ cell ALP and tissue nonspecific ALP or liver/bone/kidney ALP.

Background And Purpose: Ischemic core estimation by CT perfusion (CTp) is a diagnostic challenge, mainly because of the intrinsic noise associated with perfusion data. However, an accurate and reliable quantification of the ischemic core is critical in the selection of patients for reperfusion therapies. Biological features and outcome of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma associated with hepatitis C virus in elderly patients: Results of the prospective 'Elderly Project' by the Fondazione Italiana Linfomi.

Thoracic duct leakage in a patient with Type B-Non-Hodgkin lymphoma treated with transvenous retrograde access embolization: a case report.

Thoracic duct (TD) is the largest lymphatic vessel in the body and drains the lymph at the junction between the left subclavian and jugular veins. Chylothorax (CTX) represents an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the pleural space. We present a case of a 65 years-old man with an histologically diagnosed mediastinal type B non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, treated with chemo-immunotherapy.

Refractory septic shock and alternative wordings: A systematic review of literature.

Background: We reviewed the different studies using the terms "refractory septic shock" and/or "catecholamine resistance" and/or "high dose norepinephrine" so as to highlight the heterogeneity of the definitions used by authors addressing such concepts.

Method: A systematic review was conducted assessing the papers reporting data on refractory septic shock. We used keywords as exact phrases and subject headings according to database syntax.

Romidepsin-CHOEP followed by high-dose chemotherapy and stem-cell transplantation in untreated Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma: results of the PTCL13 phase Ib/II study.

The standard treatment for young patients with untreated PTCLs is based on anthracycline containing-regimens followed by high-dose-chemotherapy and stem-cell-transplantation (HDT + SCT), but only 40% of them can be cured. Romidepsin, a histone-deacetylase inhibitor, showed promising activity in relapsed PTCLs; in first line, Romidepsin was added with CHOP. We designed a study combining romidepsin and CHOEP as induction before HDT + auto-SCT in untreated PTCLs (PTCL-NOS, AITL/THF, ALK-ALCL), aged 18-65 years.

High rate of durable responses with undetectable minimal residual disease with front-line venetoclax and rituximab in young, fit patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and an adverse biological profile: results of the GIMEMA phase II LLC1518 - VERITAS study.

The GIMEMA phase II LLC1518 VERITAS trial investigated the efficacy and safety of front-line, fixed-duration venetoclax and rituximab (VenR) in combination in young (≤65 years), fit patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and unmutated IGHV and/or TP53 disruption. Treatment consisted of the venetoclax ramp-up, six monthly courses of the VenR combination, followed by six monthly courses of venetoclax as a single agent. A centralized assessment of minimal residual disease (MRD) was performed by allele-specific oligonucleotide polymerase chain reaction assay on the peripheral blood and bone marrow at the end of treatment (EOT) and during the follow-up.

Multimodal strategy to counteract vasodilation in septic shock.

Early initiation of a multimodal treatment strategy in the management of vasopressors during septic shock has been advocated to reduce delays in restoring adequate organ perfusion and to mitigate side effects associated with the administration of high-dose catecholamines. We provide a review that summarises the pathophysiology of vasodilation, the physiologic response to the vascular response, and the different drugs used in this situation, focusing on the need to combine early different vasopressors. Fluid loading being insufficient for counteracting vasoplegia, norepinephrine is usually the first-line vasopressor used to restore hemodynamics.

Deformation Imaging by Strain in Chronic Heart Failure Over Sacubitril-Valsartan: A Multicenter Echocardiographic Registry.

Aims: Sacubitril/valsartan has changed the treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), due to the positive effects on morbidity and mortality, partly mediated by left ventricular (LV) reverse remodelling (LVRR). The aim of this multicenter study was to identify echocardiographic predictors of LVRR after sacubitril/valsartan administration.

Methods And Results: Patients with HFrEF requiring therapy with sacubitril/valsartan from 13 Italian centres were included.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in octogenarians aged 85 and older can benefit from treatment with curative intent: a report on 129 patients prospectively registered in the Elderly Project of the Fondazione Italiana Linfomi (FIL).

Octogenarian patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma are managed mainly with palliation, but recent improvement in their overall condition makes potentially curative treatment a possibility. Studies have shown that half of selected octogenarians may be cured using reduced-dose anthracycline chemoimmunotherapy. However, patients aged >85 (late octogenarians [LO]) were underrepresented, and selection criteria were poorly defined.
