Purpose: Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are observed in 6% of patients with concomitant aortic valve stenosis (AS) requiring aortic valve replacement. Optimal management of these concomitant pathologies is still debated.

Case Report: An 80-year-old man presented with acute heart failure due to a severe AS.

Rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) is the most commonly used regimen for the upfront treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, it is associated with cardiotoxicity, especially in older patients. Substituting doxorubicin with non-PEGylated liposomal doxorubicin (R-COMP) may reduce the risk of cardiac events, but its efficacy has never been demonstrated in prospective trials.

Effects of Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Enhanced with Neuropsychological Treatment on Post-Acute SARS-CoV-2 Cognitive Impairment (Brain Fog): An Observational Study.

Concentration and memory impairment (named "brain fog") represents a frequent and disabling neuropsychological sequela in post-acute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS) patients. The aim of this study was to assess whether neurocognitive function could improve after a multidisciplinary rehabilitation program enhanced with individualized neuropsychological treatment. A prospective monocentric registry of PACS patients consecutively admitted to our Rehabilitation Unit was created.

There are several clinical conditions where the risk of arrhythmic death is present albeit only transient. As an example, patients with depressed left ventricular function have a high risk of SCD that may be only transient if there will be a significant recovery of function.

Remdesivir treatment and clinical outcome in non-severe hospitalized COVID-19 patients: a propensity score matching multicenter Italian hospital experience.

Introduction: Remdesivir exerts positive effects on clinical improvement, even though it seems not to affect mortality among COVID-19 patients; moreover, it was associated with the occurence of marked bradycardia.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 989 consecutive patients with non-severe COVID-19 (SpO ≥ 94% on room air) admitted from October 2020 to July 2021 at five Italian hospitals. Propensity score matching allowed to obtain a comparable control group.

T-Cells Subsets in Castleman Disease: Analysis of 28 Cases Including Unicentric, Multicentric and HHV8-Related Clinical Forms.

Castleman disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder that includes various clinico-pathological subtypes. According to clinical course, CD is divided into unicentric CD (UCD) and multicentric CD (MCD). MCD is further distinguished based on the etiological driver in herpes virus-8-related MCD (that can occur in the setting of HIV); in MCD associated with POEMS syndrome (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal protein, and skin changes); and idiopathic MCD (iMCD).

Long-term follow-up of rituximab plus bendamustine and cytarabine in older patients with newly diagnosed MCL.

The combination of rituximab, bendamustine, and low-dose cytarabine (R-BAC) has been studied in a phase 2 prospective multicenter study from Fondazione Italiana Linfomi (RBAC500). In 57 previously untreated elderly patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), R-BAC was associated with a complete remission rate of 91% and 2-year progression-free survival (PFS) of 81% (95% confidence interval [CI], 68-89). Here, we report the long-term survival outcomes, late toxicities, and results of minimal residual disease (MRD) evaluation.

Chest CT opportunistic biomarkers for phenotyping high-risk COVID-19 patients: a retrospective multicentre study.

Objective: To assess the value of opportunistic biomarkers derived from chest CT performed at hospital admission of COVID-19 patients for the phenotypization of high-risk patients.

Methods: In this multicentre retrospective study, 1845 consecutive COVID-19 patients with chest CT performed within 72 h from hospital admission were analysed. Clinical and outcome data were collected by each center 30 and 80 days after hospital admission.

Pheochromocytoma-induced cardiogenic shock: A multicentre analysis of clinical profiles, management and outcomes.

Objective: There is still uncertainty about the management of patients with pheochromocytoma-induced cardiogenic shock (PICS). This study aims to investigate the clinical presentation, management, and outcome of patients with PICS.

Methods: We collected, retrospectively, the data of 18 patients without previously known pheochromocytoma admitted to 8 European hospitals with a diagnosis of PICS.

Delphi-Based Expert Consensus Statements for the Management of Percutaneous Radiofrequency Neurotomy in the Treatment of Lumbar Facet Joint Syndrome.

Introduction: A modified Delphi strategy was implemented for obtaining recommendations that could be useful in the management of percutaneous radiofrequency treatment of lumbar facet joint syndrome, as the literature on the argument was poor in quality.

Methods: An Italian research team conducted a comprehensive literature search, defined the investigation topics (diagnosis, treatment, and outcome evaluation), and developed an explorative semi-structured questionnaire. They also selected the members of the panel.

Maternal pandemic-related stress during pregnancy associates with infants' socio-cognitive development at 12 months: A longitudinal multi-centric study.

Background: Prenatal maternal stress is a key risk factor for infants' development. Previous research has highlighted consequences for infants' socio-emotional and cognitive outcomes, but less is known for what regards socio-cognitive development. In this study, we report on the effects of maternal prenatal stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic on 12-month-old infants' behavioral markers of socio-cognitive development.

Long-Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Effects on Cardiovascular Risk in Childhood: A Narrative Review.

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) are semi-essential fatty acids widely studied in adult subjects for their healthy-heart effects, especially on secondary prevention in patients who already experienced a cardiac event. LCPUFAs consumption is safe, without adverse effects, and they are usually well-tolerated; they can be taken either in foods or as nutritional supplements. LCPUFAs' positive effect on global health has been worldwide recognized also for pediatric patients.

Persistence of Immune Response Elicited by Three Doses of mRNA Vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 in a Cohort of Patients with Solid Tumors: A One-Year Follow-Up.

The role and durability of the immunogenicity of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine against severe acute respiratory virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), in cancer patients one year after receiving the third dose have to be elucidated. We have prospectively evaluated the long-term immunogenicity of the third dose of the SARS-CoV-2 BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine in 55 patients undergoing active treatment. Neutralizing antibody (NT Ab) titers against Omicron variants and total anti-trimeric S IgG levels were measured one year after the third dose.

Late complications of cochlear implant: a case report of necrotizing meningoencephalitis similar to a CPA tumor.

Objective: Report a case of localized necrotizing meningoencephalitis as the cause of functional hearing loss after cochlear implant (CI) surgery.

Case Report: A 12-year-old with bilateral CI presented to our quaternary center due to severe functional hearing loss after 11 years since left ear CI surgery. CT with contrast was conducted showing a CPA tumor-like mass.

Sympathetic Ophthalmia after Vitreoretinal Surgery without Antecedent History of Trauma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: To evaluate the morbidity frequency measures in terms of the cumulative incidence of sympathetic ophthalmia (SO) triggered by single or multiple vitreoretinal (VR) surgery procedures in eyes without an antecedent history of trauma and previous ocular surgery, except for previous or concomitant uneventful lens extraction, and to further investigate the relationship between VR surgery and SO.

Methods: A literature search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, and Scopus from inception until 11 November 2022. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal checklist for the case series and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale were used to assess the risk of bias.

The role of skin tests with polyethylene glycol and polysorbate 80 in the vaccination campaign for COVID-19: results from an Italian multicenter survey.

International guidelines suggested skin tests with Polyethylene-glycol (PEG) and polysorbate 80 (PS-80), to investigate a possible hypersensitivity to these excipients either to identify subjects at risk of developing allergic reactions to Covid-19 vaccines, or in patients with suspected IgE mediated hypersensitivity reactions (HR) to the Covid-19 vaccine. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of PEG and PS sensitization in patients with a clinical history of HR to drugs containing PEG/PS and in patients with a suspected Covid-19 vaccine immediate HR. This was a multicenter retrospective study conducted by allergists belonging to 20 Italian medical centers.

Nutritional Treatment of Hypertriglyceridemia in Childhood: From Healthy-Heart Counselling to Life-Saving Diet.

Hypertriglyceridemia is a lipid disorder with a varying prevalence; it is very common if we consider triglyceride plasma values slightly above the threshold, whereas it is extremely rare if only severely elevated triglyceride levels are considered. In most cases, severe forms of hypertriglyceridemia are caused by genetic mutations in the genes that regulate triglyceride metabolism, thus leading to extreme triglyceride plasma values and acute pancreatitis risk. Secondary forms of hypertriglyceridemia are usually less severe and are mainly associated with weight excess, but they can also be linked to liver, kidney, endocrinologic, or autoimmune diseases or to some class of drugs.

Real-world efficacy and safety of vedolizumab in managing ulcerative colitis versus Crohn's disease: results from an Italian multicenter study.

Background: Vedolizumab (VDZ) can be used to treat refractory ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). We assessed whether there are differences in treating UC vs CD with VDZ.

Research Design And Methods: Mayo score in UC and the Harvey-Bradshaw Index (HBI) in CD scored the clinical activity.

Targeted metabolomics detects a putatively diagnostic signature in plasma and dried blood spots from head and neck paraganglioma patients.

Head and neck paragangliomas (HNPGLs), rare chemoresistant tumors curable only with surgery, are strongly influenced by genetic predisposition, hence patients and relatives require lifetime follow-up with MRI and/or PET-CT because of de novo disease risk. This entails exposure to electromagnetic/ionizing radiation, costs, and organizational challenges, because patients and relatives are scattered far from reference centers. Simplified first-line screening strategies are needed.
