Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS) can present diagnostic challenges, due to its overlapping morphological features with other uterine mesenchymal tumors. Misdiagnosis rates remain significant, and immunohistochemical data for LG-ESS are limited to small series and inconsistent antibody panels. This study aimed to refine the IHC profile of LG-ESS by analyzing a large, molecularly confirmed series of 147 cases using a panel of 24 antibodies, including newer markers like transgelin and smoothelin.

In gastric cancer (GC), intestinal metaplasia (IM) is a common precursor lesion, but its relationship to the axis is not completely understood. Although V-set and immunoglobulin domain containing 1 () is supposed to be a specific marker for gastric mucosa and GC, respectively, no data about its relationship with IM or mucin phenotype have been published. The aim of our study was to explore the possible linkage between IM and these four molecules.

Department of Engineering and Industrial Management, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, "GE Palade" University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures, 540139 Targu Mures, Romania.

Nanoporous/nanotubular complex oxide layers were developed on high-fraction β phase quaternary Ti-Nb-Zr-Ta and Ti-Nb-Zr-Fe promising biomedical alloys with a low elasticity modulus. Surface modification was achieved by electrochemical anodization aimed at the synthesis of the morphology of the nanostructures, which exhibited inner diameters of 15-100 nm. SEM, EDS, XRD, and current evolution analyses were performed for the characterization of the oxide layers.

Relationship between Nutrition, Lifestyle Habits and Laboratory Parameters in Hypertensive Patients with/without Cognitive Dysfunction.

Life (Basel)

January 2023

Department of Chemistry and Medical Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine in English, GE Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureş, 540136 Târgu Mureş, Romania.

Unlabelled: (1) Background: Cognitive dysfunction is a major concern in hypertensive patients. Lifestyle habits and nutrition influence laboratory parameters, with an impact on clinical course. The objective of the study was to evaluate nutrition and lifestyle habits in hypertensive patients with/without cognitive dysfunction and establish correlations to laboratory parameters.

We report the case of a 69-year-old female patient in which echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging were used to diagnose a patient presenting with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) due to Loeffler endocarditis. Loeffler endocarditis is an uncommon cause of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, triggered by eosinophil and lymphocyte infiltration of the endomyocardium, followed by the formation of thrombus in the afflicted area, and eventually fibrosis. This condition is due to an increased number of eosinophils associated with allergies, infections, systemic conditions, as well as malignancies and hypereosinophilic syndrome.

From Dukes-MAC Staging System to Molecular Classification: Evolving Concepts in Colorectal Cancer.

Int J Mol Sci

August 2022

Department of Pathology, George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology, 38 Gheorghe Marinescu Street, 540139 Targu Mures, Romania.

This historical review aimed to summarize the main changes that colorectal carcinoma (CRC) staging systems suffered over time, starting from the creation of the classical Duke's classification, modified Astler-Coller staging, internationally used TNM (T-primary tumor, N-regional lymph nodes' status, M-distant metastases) staging system, and ending with molecular classifications and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) concept. Besides currently used staging parameters, this paper briefly presents the author's contribution in creating an immunohistochemical (IHC)-based molecular classification of CRC. It refers to the identification of three molecular groups of CRCs (epithelial, mesenchymal and hybrid) based on the IHC markers E-cadherin, β-catenin, maspin, and vimentin.

Edmond J Safra Program in Parkinson's Disease, Morton and Gloria Shulman Movement Disorders Clinic, Toronto Western Hospital, UHN, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Division of Neurology, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Krembil Research Institute, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Introduction: Patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (APD) commonly experience motor and nonmotor symptoms (NMS) associated with functional limitations and decreased quality of life. We compared motor and nonmotor outcomes in patients with APD receiving 24- versus 16-h levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG).

Methods: Data from COSMOS, a large, real-world, retrospective and cross-sectional, observational study on LCIG and comedication in APD were obtained from medical records and a single patient visit for patients receiving 24- and 16-h LCIG infusion.

Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common primary valve lesion requiring intervention in Europe and North America. It has a prolonged subclinical period during which, as AS worsens, left ventricular adaptation becomes inadequate and impaired systolic and/or diastolic dysfunction may lead to overt heart failure (HF). The development of HF is an inflexion point in the natural history of AS.

We aimed to evaluate the prevalence and incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and panic disorder (PD) among citizens in 11 countries during the Covid-19 pandemic. We explored risks and protective factors most associated with the development of these mental health disorders and their course at 68 days follow up. We acquired 9543 unique responses via an online survey that was disseminated in UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, India, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden.

National governments took action to delay the transmission of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by implementing different containment measures. We developed an online survey that included 44 different containment measures. We aimed to assess how effective citizens perceive these measures, which measures are perceived as violation of citizens' personal freedoms, which opinions and demographic factors have an effect on compliance with the measures, and what governments can do to most effectively improve citizens' compliance.

Background: Workers in the healthcare sector are at high risk of developing occupational hand eczema mainly due to frequent exposure to irritants and/or allergens. Amongst workers in healthcare, nurses are at higher risk of developing hand dermatitis.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of a short educational intervention program in preventing occupational hand eczema in nurse apprentices, using two objective tools, namely TEWL and EH, and the HECSI score.
