People living with HIV-HCV co-infection comprise a target group for HCV-micro-elimination. We conducted an HCV cascade of care (CoC) for HIV-HCV co-infected individuals living in Greece and investigated factors associated with different HCV-CoC stages. We analyzed data from 1213 participants from the Athens Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) is believed to be mainly idiopathic since the cause is not usually identified. Several recent studies have examined the role of cardiovascular risk factors in this disease. The aim of this systematic literature review is to investigate the possible association between acquired and inherited cardiovascular risk factors and the incidence, severity, and prognosis of SSHL.

However, considering these damages, not only in the spinal nerve roots but also in the spinal cord itself, is crucial in determining the appropriate surgical approach to restore upper limb function and address refractory pain. Therefore, the authors present a descriptive study focusing on intradural findings observed during microsurgical DREZ-lesioning.

Atrial fibrillation (AFib), the most prevalent arrhythmia in clinical practice, presents a growing global health concern, particularly with the aging population, as it is associated with devastating complications and an impaired quality of life. Its pathophysiology is multifactorial, including the pathways of fibrosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), small non-coding RNA molecules, have emerged as substantial contributors in AFib pathophysiology, by affecting those pathways.

These growth abnormalities may lead to three main patterns of deformity: scoliosis (the most common), kyphosis or lordosis (the least common). Despite the recent improvements in imaging and the routine use of neuromonitoring in the surgical treatment of congenital kyphosis, this surgery may be associated with a high rate of complications such as neurologic deficit, pulmonary thromboembolic events, infection, deep vein thrombosis, implant failure, and dural injury.

This was a post hoc analysis of the SAVE clinical trial investigating anakinra treatment, guided by suPAR (soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor) levels ≥6 ng/mL, for the prevention of severe respiratory failure in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Baseline HBP plasma levels were measured in 534 patients by fluorescence dry quantitative immunoassay using the Jet-iStar 800 analyzer.

Introduction: Acute transverse myelitis (ATM) refers to a rare severe acquired spinal cord inflammation, with a challenging diagnostic work-up and treatment.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 42-year-old patient who presented with loss of temperature and pain sensation beneath the C5 dermatome in her left side and reported a history of a possible respiratory tract illness 10 days ago. Within 2 days, clinical worsening was noted, compatible with Brown-Sequard syndrome.

Human leukocyte antigens (HLA) represent one of the most polymorphic systems in humans, responsible for the identification of foreign antigens and the presentation of immune responses. Therefore, HLA is considered to play a major role in human disorders, donor-recipient matching and transplantation outcomes. This study aimed to determine the HLA class I and II alleles and haplotypes in the Greek population.

Background: This paper compares the most recent data on the incidence and prevalence of kidney replacement therapy (KRT), kidney transplantation rates, and mortality on KRT from Europe to those from the United States (US), including comparisons of treatment modalities (haemodialysis (HD), peritoneal dialysis (PD), and kidney transplantation (KTx)).
Methods: Data were derived from the annual reports of the European Renal Association (ERA) Registry and the United States Renal Data System (USRDS). The European data include information from national and regional renal registries providing the ERA Registry with individual patient data.

Purpose: We present the functional and clinical results of a combined surgical technique that functionally restores chronic Acromioclavicular Joint Instability (AJI). The method combines a double-looped suture fixation augmented with a semitendinosus autograft.
Methods: Between 2017 and 2021, 15 patients were treated using the surgical technique.

Background: The impact of pathogen reduction technology (PRT) such as Mirasol, and the effect of platelet additive solutions (PAS) on the activity and hemostatic profile of transfused apheresis platelets remain largely unknown. The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro hemostatic and metabolic profile of Mirasol treated platelets in PAS during a 7-day storage period.

It is estimated that about 1-13% of melanoma patients will develop multiple primary melanomas. Although the occurrence of subsequent tumors has been described during the last few years, the development of simultaneous melanomas has not yet been extensively studied. We reviewed our registries to identify patients with multiple primary melanomas.

Background: The TsiogkaSpaeth (TS) grid is a new, low-cost, and easy to access portable test for visual field (VF) screening which could be used by clinicians in everyday clinical practice. Our study aimed to determine the validity of an innovative screening grid test for identifying neurological disease-associated VF defects.
Methods: We enrolled two groups of participants: We assessed the one eye of ten consecutive adult patients with different types of neurological disease associated VF defects and ten eyes of controls in each group.

We report our experience using the "lid switch flap" for the reconstruction of large upper eyelid defects, emphasizing on the design, the point of flap rotation, and the detailed description of the surgical technique. From 2018 to 2021, three patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) invading 50 to 70% of the upper eyelid underwent tumor excision. The defects were reconstructed using the two-stage "lid switch flap" method.

Unlabelled: While primarily described in children, adult-onset Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) has been reported, albeit infrequently. In the present scenario, we unveil a unique case of adult-onset LCH in an HIV-infected individual. After the diagnosis was made, the patient was successfully treated and demonstrated total disease remission.
