Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) avulsion fractures without any concomitant injuries are extremely rare in skeletally mature patients and sporadically reported in the literature. Such injuries are more likely to be associated with tibial plateau fractures, other knee ligament ruptures, distal femoral fractures, or knee dislocations. In this article, a case of a 55-year-old male, who suffered a combined displaced ACL-posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fracture, without any related injuries, is reported.

Article Synopsis
  • Hemoglobinopathies like sickle cell disease and thalassemia lead to health complications, increasing infection risks, making vaccinations essential for patient care and quality of life.
  • A nationwide survey in Greece assessed vaccination coverage and attitudes toward vaccination among patients with hemoglobinopathies using a 37-item anonymous questionnaire.
  • Results showed that while childhood vaccination rates were generally in line with national standards, adult vaccination coverage was low for several key vaccines, particularly among individuals over 50 years, who also had more misconceptions about vaccinations.

Hip dislocations are traumatic injuries that commonly derive from high energy trauma such as traffic accidents or falls from great heights. In addition, these injuries present an increased incidence after partial or total hip arthroplasty in elderly patients. Associate literature dictates that in case of a native hip dislocation, early reduction is crucial for avoidance of further complications such as avascular necrosis of the femoral head and post traumatic arthritis.

Introduction Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is considered one of the leading causes of poor bone quality. It may also be related to severe muscular weakness, especially in the elderly, which leads to frequent falls. Thus, VDD might be associated with fragility fractures of the hip, wrist, and spine in this age category.

Dystocic Labor and Adrenergic and Noradrenergic Neurotransmitters: A Morphological Experimental Study.

Int J Mol Sci

September 2022

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and CERICSAL (CEntro di RIcerca Clinico SALentino), Veris delli Ponti Hospital, 73020 Scorrano, Italy.

Authors investigated the catecholaminergic neurotransmitters (chNs) quantitative modifications in pregnant uterine Lower Uterine Segment (LUS) during prolonged labor (PL) with the fetus in an occiput-posterior position (OPP), in occiput transverse position (OTP) and in fetal head asynclitism, all diagnosed by Intrapartum Ultrasonography (IU). The chNs neurotransmitters, particularly adrenaline (or epinephrine-A) and noradrenaline (or norepinephrine-N), were evaluated in LUS fragments sampled during CS of 34 patients undergoing urgent cesarean section (CS) in PL, compared to chNs fibers in the LUS of 36 women submitted to elective CS. All results were statistically analyzed to understand the differences in neurotransmitters morphological analysis by scanning electronic microscopy examination (SEM).
