Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether specific genetic polymorphisms affect the response to intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment in patients with macular oedema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

Methods: Participants in this prospective study were 50 patients with macular oedema secondary to RVO, who were treated with intravitreal ranibizumab or aflibercept, and were followed-up for 12 months after initiation of treatment. Five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from three different genes (, , ) were examined as potential predictors for treatment response to intravitreal anti-VEGF agents.

Peduncular hallucinosis refers to a rare neurophychiatric disorder presenting with vivid visual hallucinations, disturbances of sleep, and oculomotor dysfunction. It is typically caused by mesencephalic lesions. Nonetheless, a few cases have also been reported, in which the same syndrome was associated with thalamic and pontine lesions.

Therapeutic inertia in rhythm control strategies in hospitalized patients with fibrillation: Insights from Hellenic Cardiorenal Morbidity Snapshot (HECMOS) study.

Background: Current guidelines recommend a rhythm control strategy in patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) while catheter ablation has been shown to be a safer and more efficacious approach than antiarrhythmic medications.

Methods: HECMOS was a nationwide snapshot survey of cardiorenal morbidity in hospitalized cardiology patients. In this sub-study, we included 276 cases who had a history of AF, particularly on the rhythm strategy, and catheter ablation procedures had been performed before the index admission.

Purpose: Degenerative meniscus tears can cause discomfort in some patients, and when medical treatments fail to provide relief, arthroscopy may be considered before resorting to knee prosthesis. However, the benefits of arthroscopy over nonsurgical treatments in patients over 60 years old are limited, and the evidence regarding its overall efficiency and drawbacks remains scarce. Corneal Irregularity Induced by Transepithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy in a Patient With Partial Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to present a case of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (trans-PRK) laser ablation in a patient with partial limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) that resulted in corneal irregularity.

Methods: A 23-year-old man with bilateral partial LSCD underwent trans-PRK for myopia correction 2 months before presentation to our department. Trans-PRK ablation was performed with a phototherapeutic keratectomy ablation profile set at 60 μm in the OD and 57 μm in the OS and 8 mm zone.

Introduction Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) comprises a heterogeneous group of tumors with a single trait in common: an evident aggressive nature with higher rates of relapse and lower overall survival in the metastatic context when compared to other subtypes of breast cancer. To date, not a single targeted therapy has been approved for the treatment of TNBC, and cytotoxic chemotherapy remains the standard treatment. In the present experimental study, we examine the effects of the chemotherapeutic docetaxel and the bcr/abl kinase inhibitor dasatinib on TNBC cell lines (in vitro) and on TNBC tumor xenograft mouse models (in vivo).
