Background: Activated Phosphoinositide 3-Kinase (PI3K) δ Syndrome (APDS), an inborn error of immunity due to upregulation of the PI3K pathway, leads to recurrent infections and immune dysregulation (lymphoproliferation and autoimmunity).
Methods: Clinical and genetic data of 28 APDS patients from 25 unrelated families were collected from fifteen Italian centers.
Results: Patients were genetically confirmed with APDS-1 (n = 20) or APDS-2 (n = 8), with pathogenic mutations in the PIK3CD or PIK3R1 genes.

Background And Study Aims: Water beads made from superabsorbent polymers can lead to bowel obstruction, which can sometimes be fatal. This article aims to highlight the dangers of such toys and to propose an innovative, safe and effective approach to diagnostic and therapeutic management.
Patients And Methods: We report two cases of children with intestinal obstruction following the ingestion of products based on superabsorbent polymers.

From 2020 to today, considerable knowledge on SARS-CoV-2 has been collected, even on pregnant women and their fetuses and newborns, and clinical guidelines have been written and implemented worldwide. Vaccination has considerably improved outcomes, but hesitancy amongst pregnant patients and the emergence of variants remain challenging, and SARS-CoV-2 positivity during pregnancy continues to be associated with an increased risk of maternal complications, premature delivery, and higher neonatal mortality and morbidity. A body of data now exists on the effect of SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy on early neonatal outcomes, medical education in obstetrics and pediatrics, and longer-term developmental outcomes.

Background: The aim of the study is to investigate doctors' and nurses' beliefs and attitudes towards family presence and open visiting policies in Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) in Italy.
Methods: A multicentric nationwide study was carried out in all 30 Italian PICUs. All doctors and nurses were asked to complete the Italian version of the Beliefs and Attitudes toward Visitation in ICU Questionnaire (BAVIQ).

Introduction: To evaluate the prognostic impact of substantial lymph vascular space invasion (LVSI) on the sentinel lymph node involvement and recurrence rate of patients with apparent uterine-confined endometrial cancer.
Materials And Methods: We enrolled consecutive patients with apparent confined endometrial cancer who underwent surgical staging with sentinel node mapping from 14 European reference centers. LVSI was analyzed semi-quantitatively, according to a 3-tiered scoring system classified as absent, focal, and substantial.

Background: The intrauterine manipulator used during a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer has been suggested as a reason for worsening oncologic outcomes. However, only a few non-randomized retrospective studies have investigated this association.
Primary Objectives: To compare 4-year recurrence-free survival in the group of patients who undergo hysterectomy using an intrauterine manipulator with that of those who undergo hysterectomy without it.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control has reported 19 cases of severe echovirus 11 infections in neonates since 2022, nine of which were fatal. We report a new fatal neonatal case that occurred in a male twin for which we evaluated the respiratory and intestinal mucosal innate immune response.

Introduction: The SafeBoosC-III trial investigated the effect of cerebral oximetry-guided treatment in the first 72 h after birth on mortality and severe brain injury diagnosed by cranial ultrasound in extremely preterm infants (EPIs). This ancillary study evaluated the effect of cerebral oximetry on global brain injury as assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at term equivalent age (TEA).
Methods: MRI scans were obtained between 36 and 44.

Objective: To investigate the safety of sentinel node mapping for patients with early-stage cervical cancer undergoing cervical conization plus nodal evaluation.
Methods: The ETERNITY project is a retrospective, multi-institutional study collecting data of patients with early-stage cervical cancer undergoing fertility-sparing treatment. Here, we compared outcomes related to three methods of nodal assessment: sentinel node mapping (SNM), SNM plus backup lymphadenectomy (SNM + LND); pelvic lymphadenectomy (LND).

Background: Almost 10% of women in reproductive age are diagnosed with ovarian endometriomas and can experience symptoms and infertility disorders. Ovarian endometriomas can be treated with medical or surgical therapy.
Objective: To assess whether long-term therapy with dienogest or oral cyclic estrogen-progestogens is effective in reducing the size of ovarian endometriomas, alleviating associated symptoms, and reducing the requirement for surgery.

Background: Congenital h-type tracheoesophageal fistula (H-TEF) without esophageal atresia (EA) represents about 4% of congenital esophageal anomalies. The diagnosis is challenging, and surgery is considered curative. The aim was to report a national survey on the diagnosis, management, and outcome of patients with congenital H-TEF.

Objective: To assess 5-year oncologic outcomes of apparent early-stage high-intermediate and high-risk endometrial cancer undergoing sentinel node mapping versus systematic lymphadenectomy.
Methods: This is a multi-institutional retrospective, propensity-matched study evaluating data of high-intermediate and high-risk endometrial cancer (according to ESGO/ESTRO/ESP guidelines) undergoing sentinel node mapping versus systematic pelvic lymphadenectomy (with and without para-aortic lymphadenectomy). Survival outcomes were assessed using Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazard methods.

Introduction: Over the years, congenital lung malformations (CLM) management remains a controversial topic in pediatric thoracic surgery. The Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery performed a national survey to study the current management variability among centers, trying to define national guidelines and a standardized approach of children with congenital lung malformations.
Methods: Following a National Society approval, an electronic survey including 35 items on post-natal management was designed, focusing on surgical, anesthesiology, radiology and pneumology aspects.

Background: Image-guided core-needle biopsy (IGCNB) is a widely used and valuable clinical tool for tissue diagnosis of pediatric neuroblastoma. However, open surgical biopsy remains common practice even if children undergo more invasive and painful procedures. This review aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy and safety of IGCNBs in pediatric patients with neuroblastoma.
