Cancer is a remarkable prothrombotic disease, and cancer-associated thrombosis acts as a dreadful omen for poor prognosis. The cornerstone of venous thromboembolism therapy is anticoagulation; however, in patients with venous thromboembolism who are not suitable for anticoagulation (contraindication, failure, or complication), the inferior vena cava filter appears a valuable option in the therapeutic arsenal. The recently heightened trend of steady rise in filter placement mirrors the spread of retrievable devices, together with improvements in physicians' insertion ability, medico-legal issue, and novel and fewer thrombogenic materials.

Background: The intrauterine manipulator used during a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer has been suggested as a reason for worsening oncologic outcomes. However, only a few non-randomized retrospective studies have investigated this association.
Primary Objectives: To compare 4-year recurrence-free survival in the group of patients who undergo hysterectomy using an intrauterine manipulator with that of those who undergo hysterectomy without it.

Background: While the prognostic value of six-minute walking test (6MWT) in patients with heart failure (HF) and reduced ejection fraction has been firmly established, there are few or no data correlating the distance walked during 6MWT (6MWD) with mortality in patients with HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) METHODS: We studied 482 patients with HFpEF who had been admitted to inpatients cardiac rehabilitation. The primary outcome was 3-year all-cause mortality. The association between 6MWD and the primary outcome was assessed using multivariable models.

Purpose: Microwave ablation (MWA) and conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) are locoregional treatments commonly performed in very early, early and intermediate stages of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Despite combined locoregional approaches have shown encouraging results in obtaining complete tumor necrosis, their application in a single session is poorly described. Our aim was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of single-session MWA and cTACE treatment in 5-cm HCCs and its influence on liver function.

Background: Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a severe and potentially life-threatening condition, especially in cases of delayed treatment. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) plays a pivotal role in the early identification of upper and lower GIB and in the prompt treatment of the haemorrhage.
Aim: To determine whether a volumetric estimation of the extravasated contrast at CTA in GIB may be a predictor of subsequent positive angiographic findings.

Aims: The identification of patients at greater mortality risk of death at admission into an intensive cardiovascular care unit (ICCU) has relevant consequences for clinical decision-making. We described patient characteristics at admission into an ICCU by predicted mortality risk assessed with noncardiac intensive care unit (ICU) and evaluated their performance in predicting patient outcomes.
Methods: A total of 202 consecutive patients (130 men, 75 ± 12 years) were admitted into our tertiary-care ICCU in a 20-week period.

Cardio-oncology rehabilitation (CORE) is not only an essential component of cancer rehabilitation but also a pillar of preventive cardio-oncology. Cardio-oncology rehabilitation is a comprehensive model based on a multitargeted approach and its efficacy has been widely documented; when compared with an 'exercise only' programme, comprehensive CORE demonstrates a better outcome. It involves nutritional counselling, psychological support, and cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment, and it is directed to a very demanding population with a heavy burden of CV diseases driven by physical inactivity, cancer therapy-induced metabolic derangements, and cancer therapy-related CV toxicities.

Transarterial radioembolization or selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) has emerged as a minimally invasive approach for the treatment of tumors. This percutaneous technique involves the local, intra-arterial delivery of radioactive microspheres directly into the tumor. Historically employed as a palliative measure for liver malignancies, SIRT has gained traction over the past decade as a potential curative option, mirroring the increasing role of radiation segmentectomy.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignancy with a bleak prognosis. Although emerging research increasingly supports the involvement of chromatin regulators (CRs) in cancer development, CRs in HCC patients have not received proportionate attention. This study aimed to investigate the role and prognostic significance of CRs in HCC patients, providing new insights for clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies.

Left atrial or left atrial appendage thrombosis (LAT) is contraindicated for cardiac ablation (CA) or cardioversion (CV) of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study was aimed to compare the frequency of LAT detected by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) before CA or CV in patients with AF treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) or vitamin K antagonists (VKAs). We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochran Library databases from inception through July 13, 2023 to select studies reporting data on LAT identification before CA or CV using TEE in patients with AF treated with DOACs or VKAs.

Natriuretic peptides (NP) are recognized as the most powerful predictors of adverse outcomes in heart failure (HF). We hypothesized that a measure of functional limitation, as assessed by 6-min walking test (6MWT), would improve the accuracy of a prognostic model incorporating a NP. This was a multicenter observational retrospective study.

Background: Liver resection is the mainstay for a curative treatment for patients with resectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), also in elderly population. Despite this, the evaluation of patient condition, liver function and extent of disease remains a demanding process with the aim to reduce postoperative morbidity and mortality.
Aim: To identify new perioperative risk factors that could be associated with higher 90- and 180-d mortality in elderly patients eligible for liver resection for HCC considering traditional perioperative risk scores and to develop a risk score.

Background: In recent years, minimally invasive liver resection has become a standard of care for liver tumors. Considering the need to treat increasingly fragile patients, general anesthesia is sometimes avoided due to respiratory complications. Therefore, surgical treatment with curative intent is abandoned in favor of a less invasive and less radical approach.

Introduction: The importance of atrio-ventricular synchrony pacing in sinus rhythm patients is known. To identify patients in whom leadless pacemakers are able to guarantee this atrio-ventricular synchrony, we explored correlations among echocardiographic measures of left atrial (LA) size and function (doppler parameter and strain) with A4 amplitude in patients implanted with new generation Micra-AV device.
Methods: After implantation with Micra-AV system, patients underwent device interrogation to evaluate AV synchrony based on the sensing of atrial mechanics and echocardiographic exam to assess LA morphology and LA function.

Since hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents an important cause of mortality and morbidity all over the world. Currently, it is fundamental not only to achieve a curative treatment but also to manage in the best way any possible recurrence. Even if the latest update of the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer guidelines for HCC treatment has introduced new locoregional techniques and confirmed others as well-established clinical practices, there is still no consensus about the treatment of recurrent HCC (RHCC).
